BABAR Collaboration(del Amo Sanchez, P. et al), Lopez-March, N., Martinez-Vidal, F., Milanes, D. A., & Oyanguren, A. (2010). Measurement of D-0-(D)over-bar(0) Mixing Parameters Using D-0 -> K-S(0)pi(+) pi(-) and D-0 -> (KSK+K-)-K-0 Decays. Phys. Rev. Lett., 105(8), 081803–7pp.
Abstract: We report a direct measurement of D-0-(D) over bar (0) mixing parameters through a time-dependent amplitude analysis of the Dalitz plots of D-0 -> K-S(0)pi(+)pi(-) and, for the first time, D-0 -> (KSK+K-)-K-0 decays. The low-momentum pion pi(+)(s) in the decay D*(+) -> D-0 pi(+)(s) identifies the flavor of the neutral D meson at its production. Using 468.5 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) colliding-beam data recorded near root s = 10.6 by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider at SLAC, we measure the mixing parameters x = [1.6 + 2.3(stat) +/- 1.2(syst) +/- 0.8(model)] X 10(-3), and y = [5.7 +/- 2.0(stat) +/- 1.3(syst) +/- 0.7(model)] X 10(-3). These results provide the best measurement to date of x and y. The knowledge of the value of x, in particular, is crucial for understanding the origin of mixing.

CDF Collaboration(Aaltonen, T. et al), & Cabrera, S. (2010). Measurement of d sigma/dy of Drell-Yan e(+)e(-) pairs in the Z mass region from p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV. Phys. Lett. B, 692(4), 232–239.
Abstract: We report on a CDF measurement of the total cross section and rapidity distribution, d sigma/dy, for gamma*/Z -> e(+)e(-) events in the Z boson mass region (66 < M-ee < 116 GeV/c(2)) produced in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV with 2.1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The measured cross section of 257 +/- 16 pb and d sigma/dy distribution are compared with Next-to-Leading-Order (NLO) and Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order (NNLO) QCD theory predictions with CTEQ and MRST/MSTW parton distribution functions (PDFs). There is good agreement between the experimental total cross section and d sigma/dy measurements with theoretical calculations with the most recent NNLO PDFs.

Sajjad Athar, M., Ruiz Simo, I., & Vicente Vacas, M. J. (2011). Nuclear medium modification of the F2(x, Q^2) structure function. Nucl. Phys. A, 857(1), 29–41.
Abstract: We study the nuclear effects in the electromagnetic structure function F-2(x, Q(2)) in the deep inelastic lepton nucleus scattering process by taking into account Fermi motion, binding, pion and rho meson cloud contributions. Calculations have been done in a local density approximation using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which include nucleon correlations. The ratios R-F2(A) (x, Q(2)) = 2F(2)(A)(x, Q(2))/AF(2)(D)(x, Q(2)) are obtained and compared with recent JLab results for light nuclei with special attention to the slope of the x distributions. This magnitude shows a non-trivial A dependence and it is insensitive to possible normalization uncertainties. The results have also been compared with some of the older experiments using intermediate mass nuclei.

ATLAS Collaboration(Aad, G. et al), Amoros, G., Cabrera Urban, S., Castillo Gimenez, V., Costa, M. J., Escobar, C., et al. (2011). Measurement of the production cross section for W-bosons in association with jets in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector. Phys. Lett. B, 698(5), 325–345.
Abstract: This Letter reports on a first measurement of the inclusive W + jets cross section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC, with the ATLAS detector. Cross sections, in both the electron and muon decay modes of the W-boson, are presented as a function of jet multiplicity and of the transverse momentum of the leading and next-to-leading jets in the event. Measurements are also presented of the ratio of cross sections sigma (W + >= n)/sigma(W + >= n – 1) for inclusive jet multiplicities n = 1-4. The results, based on an integrated luminosity of 1.3 pb(-1), have been corrected for all known detector effects and are quoted in a limited and well-defined range of jet and lepton kinematics. The measured cross sections are compared to particle-level predictions based on perturbative QCD. Next-to-leading order calculations, studied here for n <= 2, are found in good agreement with the data. Leading-order multiparton event generators, normalized to the NNLO total cross section, describe the data well for all measured jet multiplicities.

Abstract: The characterization of a PET detector head based on continuous LYSO crystals and silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) arrays as photodetectors has been carried out for its use in the development of a small animal PET prototype. The detector heads are composed of a continuous crystal and a SiPM matrix with 64 pixels in a common substrate, fabricated specifically for this project. Three crystals of 12 mm x 12 mm x 5 mm size with different types of painting have been tested: white, black and black on the sides but white on the back of the crystal. The best energy resolution, obtained with the white crystal, is 16% FWHM. The detector response is linear up to 1275 keV. Tests with different position determination algorithms have been carried out with the three crystals. The spatial resolution obtained with the center of gravity algorithm is around 0.9 mm FWHM for the three crystals. As expected, the use of this algorithm results in the displacement of the reconstructed position toward the center of the crystal, more pronounced in the case of the white crystal. A maximum likelihood algorithm has been tested that can reconstruct correctly the interaction position of the photons also in the case of the white crystal.

Abstract: The exponential blueshift associated with the event horizon of a black hole makes conformal symmetry play a fundamental role in accounting for its thermal properties. Using a derivation based on two-point functions, we show that the full spectrum of thermal radiation of scalar particles by Kerr black holes can be explicitly derived on the basis of a conformal symmetry arising in the wave equation near the horizon. The simplicity of our approach emphasizes the depth of the connection between conformal symmetry and black hole radiance.

Yamagata-Sekihara, J., Roca, L., & Oset, E. (2010). Nature of the K-2*(1430), K-3*(1780), K-4*(2045), K-5*(2380), and K-6* as K*-multi-rho states. Phys. Rev. D, 82(9), 094017–8pp.
Abstract: We show that the K-2*(1430), K-3*(1780), K-4*(2045), K-5*(2380), and a not-yet-discovered K-6* resonance are basically molecules made of an increasing number of rho(770) and one K*(892) mesons. The idea relies on the fact that the vector-vector interaction in the s wave with spins aligned is very strong for both rho rho and K*rho. We extend a recent work, where several resonances showed up as multi-rho(770) molecules, to the strange sector including the K*(892) into the system. The resonant structures show up in the multibody scattering amplitudes, which are evaluated in terms of the unitary two-body vector-vector scattering amplitudes by using the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations.

CDF Collaboration(Aaltonen, T. et al), & Cabrera, S. (2010). Search for New Physics with a Dijet Plus Missing E-T Signature in p(p)over-bar Collisions at root s=1.96 TeV. Phys. Rev. Lett., 105(13), 131801–8pp.
Abstract: We present results of a signature-based search for new physics using a dijet plus missing transverse energy (E-T) data sample collected in 2 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe no significant event excess with respect to the standard model prediction and extract a 95% C. L. upper limit on the cross section times acceptance for a potential contribution from a nonstandard model process. The search is made by using novel, data-driven techniques for estimating backgrounds that are applicable to first searches at the LHC.

BABAR Collaboration(Lees, J. P. et al), Martinez-Vidal, F., & Oyanguren, A. (2011). Observation of the baryonic B decay (B)over-bar(0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(Lambda)over-barK(-). Phys. Rev. D, 84(7), 071102–7pp.
Abstract: We report the observation of the baryonic B decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)Lambda K(-) with a significance larger than 7 standard deviations based on 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We measure the branching fraction for the decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)Lambda K(-) to be (3.8 +/- 0.8(stat) +/- 0.2(sys) +/- 1.0(Lambda c)(+)) x 10(-5). The uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda(+)(c) branching fraction. We find that the Lambda(+)(c)K(-) invariant-mass distribution shows an enhancement above 3.5 GeV/c(2).

Abstract: We perform a study of exclusive production of Ds+Ds-,D-s*(+),D-s(-), and D-s*D-+(s)*- final states in initial-state radiation events from e(+)e(-) annihilations at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV, to search for charmonium 1(--) states. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 525 fb(-1) and was recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II storage ring. Ds+Ds-,D-s*(+),D-s(-) and ,D-s*(+),D-s*(-) mass spectra show evidence of the known psi resonances. Limits are extracted for the branching ratios of the decays X(4260) -> D-s(()*()+) D-s(()*()-)
