Abstract: We propose superfield equations in tensorial N-extended superspaces to describe the N = 2,4,8 supersymmetric generalizations of free conformal higher spin theories. These can be obtained by quantizing a superparticle model in N-extended tensorial superspace. The N-extended higher spin supermultiplets just contain scalar and 'spinor' fields in tensorial space so that, in contrast with the standard (super)space approach, no nontrivial generalizations of the Maxwell or Einstein equations to tensorial space appear when N > 2. For N = 4,8, the higher spin-tensorial components of the extended tensorial superfields are expressed through additional scalar and spinor fields in tensorial space which obey the same free higher spin equations, but that are axion-like in the sense that they possess Peccei-Quinn-like symmetries.

Abstract: Models of hadron structure are associated with a hadronic scale which allows by perturbative evolution to calculate observables in the deep inelastic region. The resolution of Dyson-Schwinger equations leads to the freezing of the QCD running coupling (effective charge) in the infrared, which is best understood as a dynamical generation of a gluon mass function, giving rise to a momentum dependence which is free from infrared divergences. We use this new development to understand why perturbative treatments are working reasonably well despite the smallness of the hadronic scale.

Abstract: Multinucleon transfer cross sections in the (96)Zr+(40)Ca system have been measured, in inverse kinematics, at bombarding energies ranging from the Coulomb barrier to similar to 25% below. Targetlike recoils have been identified in A, Z and velocity with the large solid angle magnetic spectrometer PRISMA. The experimental data for one- and two-neutron transfer channels have been compared with semiclassical microscopic calculations. For the two-neutron transfer channels the relevance of the transitions to the ground state and to the 0(+) excited states of (42)Ca are discussed by employing, for the reaction mechanism, the successive approximation. It is found that the transition to the 0(+) state at similar to 6 MeV, whose wave function is dominated by the two neutrons in the 2p(3/2) shell, is much larger than the ground state one. The comparison with the inclusive data reveals that transitions to states with high multipolarity and non-natural parity are important. This suggests that more complex two-particle correlations have to be incorporated in the treatment of the transfer process.

Abstract: We present an unquenched N-f = 2 lattice computation of the B-K parameter which controls K-0 – (K) over bar (0) oscillations. A partially quenched setup is employed with two maximally twisted dynamical (sea) light Wilson quarks, and valence quarks of both the maximally twisted and the Osterwalder-Seiler variety. Suitable combinations of these two kinds of valence quarks lead to a lattice definition of the B-K parameter which is both multiplicatively renormalizable and O(a) improved. Employing the nonperturbative RI-MOM scheme, in the continuum limit and at the physical value of the pion mass we get B-K(RGI) = 0.729 +/- 0.030, a number well in line with the existing quenched and unquenched determinations.

Abstract: The cross section of the reaction Au-197(n,gamma) was measured with the time-of-flight technique at the n_TOF (neutron time-of-flight) facility in the unresolved resonance region between 5 and 400 keV using a pair of C6D6 (where D denotes H-2) liquid scintillators for the detection of prompt capture gamma rays. The results with a total uncertainty of 3.9%-6.7% for a resolution of 20 bins per energy decade show fair agreement with the Evaluated Nuclear Data File Version B-VII.0 (ENDF/B-VII.0), which contains the standard evaluation. The Maxwellian-averaged cross section (MACS) at 30 keV is in excellent agreement with the one according to the ENDF/B-VII.0 evaluation and 4.7% higher than the MACS measured independently by activation technique. Structures in the cross section, which had also been reported earlier, have been interpreted as being due to clusters of resonances.

Abstract: We explore the potential of several Neutrino Factory (NF) setups to constrain, discover and measure new physics effects due to Non-Standard Interactions (NSI) in propagation through Earth matter. We first study the impact of NSI in the measurement of theta(13): we find that these could be large due to strong correlations of theta(13) with NSI parameters in the golden channel, and the inclusion of a detector at the magic baseline is crucial in order to reduce them as much as possible. We present, then, the sensitivity of the considered NF setups to the NSI parameters, paying special attention to correlations arising between them and the standard oscillation parameters, when all NSI parameters are introduced at once. Off-diagonal NSI parameters could be tested down to the level of 10(-3), whereas the diagonal combinations (epsilon(ee) – epsilon(tau tau)) and (epsilon(mu mu) – epsilon(tau tau)) can be tested down to 10(-1) and 10(-2), respectively. The possibilities of observing CP violation in this context are also explored, by presenting a first scan of the CP discovery potential of the NF setups to the phases phi(e mu), phi(e tau) and delta. We study separately the case where CP violation comes only from non-standard sources, and the case where it is entangled with the standard source, delta. In case delta turns out to be CP conserving, the interesting possibility of observing CP violation for reasonably small values of the NSI parameters emerges.

Abstract: In this paper we consider a Beta Beam setup that tries to leverage at most existing European facilities: i.e. a setup that takes advantage of facilities at CERN to boost high-Q ions ((8)Li and (8)B) aiming at a far detector located at L = 732 km in the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory. The average neutrino energy for (8)Li and (8)B ions boosted at gamma similar to 100 is in the range E(nu) is an element of [1, 2] GeV, high enough to use a large iron detector of the MINOS type at the far site. We perform, then, a study of the neutrino and antineutrino fluxes needed to measure a CP-violating phase delta in a significant part of the parameter space. In particular, for theta(13) >= 3 degrees, if an antineutrino flux of 3 x 10(19) useful (8)Li decays per year is achievable, we find that delta can be measured in 60% of the parameter space with 3 x 10(18) useful (8)B decays per year.

Abstract: The nTOF spallation neutron facility is operating at CERN since 2001. Neutrons are produced with a very wide energy range, from thermal up to 1 GeV and with a very high instantaneous flux (10(5)n/cm(2)/pulse at 200 m from target) thanks to the high intensity (7 x 10(12) protons/pulse) and low repetition rate of the Proton Synchrotron (PS) which is delivering protons to a lead spallation target. The experimental area is located at 200 m from the target, resulting in a very good energy resolution and beam quality thanks to the adoption of an optimal collimation system. At the end of 2008 the nTOF facility has resumed operation after a halt of 3 years due to technical issues. This contribution will outline the main physics results obtained by the facility since its inception in 1999, and show the importance of the measured nuclear data in the field of Nuclear Astrophysics and Nuclear Technology. Then it will present the future perspectives of the facility, aiming mainly in the direction of measuring highly radioactive samples, for which the facility has unique capabilities, with a lower background.

Abstract: The SciBooNE Collaboration reports K(+) production cross section and rate measurements using high-energy daughter muon neutrino scattering data off the SciBar polystyrene (C(8)H(8)) target in the SciBooNE detector. The K(+) mesons are produced by 8 GeV protons striking a beryllium target in Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam line (BNB). Using observed neutrino and antineutrino events in SciBooNE, we measure d(2)sigma/dpd Omega = (5.34 +/- 0.76) mb/(GeV/c x sr) for p + Be -> K(+) + X at mean K(+) energy of 3.9 GeVand angle (with respect to the proton beam direction) of 3.7 degrees, corresponding to the selected K(+) sample. Compared to Monte Carlo predictions using previous higher energy K(+) production measurements, this measurement, which uses the NUANCE neutrino interaction generator, is consistent with a normalization factor of 0.85 +/- 0.12. This agreement is evidence that the extrapolation of the higher energy K(+) measurements to an 8 GeV beam energy using Feynman scaling is valid. This measurement reduces the error on the K(+) production cross section from 40% to 14%.

Abstract: Motivated by the measured large branching ratio of (B) over bar (0) --> pi(0)pi(0) (the so-called pi pi puzzle), we investigate the effects of a family nonuniversal Z' model on the tree-dominated B --> pi pi decays. We find that the Z' coupling parameter zeta(LR)(d) similar to 0.05 with a nontrivial new weak phase phi(L)(d) similar to -50 degrees, which is relevant to the Z' contributions to the QCD penguin sector Delta C-5, is needed to reconcile the observed discrepancy. Combined with the recent fitting results from B --> pi K, pi K* and rho K decays, the Z' parameter spaces are severely reduced but still not excluded entirely, implying that both the “pi pi” and “pi K” puzzles could be accommodated simultaneously within such a family nonuniversal Z' model.
