Abstract: The Large Hadron Collider is reaching energies never achieved before allowing the search for exotic particles in the TeV mass range. In a continuing effort to find monopoles we discuss the effect of the magnetic dipole field created by a pair of monopole-anti-monopole or monopolium on the successive bunches of charged particles in the beam at LHC.

Abstract: The existence of monopoles is a characteristic signature of Kaluza-Klein multidimensional theories. The topology of these solutions is extremely interesting. The existence of a dipole solution, which we have associated to a monopole-anti-monopole bound state, is the leitmotiv of this investigation. The dipole in its lowest energy state, which we here call also monopolium, is electromagnetically inert in free space interacting only gravitationally. Monopolium when interacting with time dependent magnetic fields acquires a time dependent induced magnetic moment and radiates. We have analyzed the most favorable astrophysical scenario for radiative monopolium and found that the amount of radiation is so small that is not detectable by conventional equipments. These findings suggest that Kaluza-Klein monopolium, if existent, would be a candidate for a primordial dark matter constituent.

Abstract: In this paper, we consider the possibility of generating the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe via leptogenesis in the context of a triplet fermion-mediated type-III seesaw model of neutrino mass. With a hierarchical spectrum of the additional fermions, the lower bound on the lightest triplet mass is similar to 1010 GeV for successful leptogenesis, a couple of orders higher than that of the type-I case. We investigate the possibility of lowering this bound in the framework of two-Higgs-doublet models. We find that the bounds can be lowered down to 107 GeV for a hierarchical spectrum. If we include the flavor effects, then a further lowering by one order of magnitude is possible. We also discuss if such lowering can be compatible with the naturalness bounds on the triplet mass.

Abstract: We analyse the minima of scalar potentials for multi-Higgs models where the scalars are arranged as either one triplet or two triplets of the discrete symmetries A(4), S-4, Delta (27), Delta (54), as well as Delta (3n(2)) and Delta(6n2) with n > 3. The results should be useful for both multi-Higgs models involving electroweak doublets and multi-flavon models involving electroweak singlets, where in both cases the fields transform as triplets under some non-Abelian discrete symmetry.

Abstract: Flavor models typically rely on flavons-scalars that break the family symmetry by acquiring vacuum expectation values in specific directions. We develop the idea of effective alignments, i.e., cases where the contractions of multiple flavons give rise to directions that are hard or impossible to obtain directly by breaking the family symmetry. Focusing on the example where the symmetry is S-4, we list the effective alignments that can be obtained from flavons vacuum expectation values that arise naturally from S-4. Using those effective alignments as building blocks, it is possible to construct flavor models, for example by using the effective alignments in constrained sequential dominance models. We illustrate how to obtain several of the mixing schemes in the literature, and explicitly construct renormalizable models for three viable cases, two of which lead to trimaximal mixing scenarios.

Abstract: We study the phenomenology of a unified supersymmetric theory with a flavor symmetry Delta(27). The model accommodates quark and lepton masses, mixing angles and CP phases. In this model, the Dirac and Majorana mass matrices have a unified texture zero structure in the (1, 1) entry that leads to the Gatto-Sartori-Tonin relation between the Cabibbo angle and ratios of the masses in the quark sectors, and to a natural departure from zero of the theta 13(l) angle in the lepton sector. We derive the flavor structures of the trilinears and soft mass matrices, and show their general non-universality. This causes large flavor violating effects. As a consequence, the parameter space for this model is constrained, allowing it to be (dis)proven by flavor violation searches in the next decade. Although the results are model specific, we compare them to previous studies to show similar flavor effects (and associated constraints) are expected in general in supersymmetric flavor models, and may be used to distinguish them.

Abstract: Motivated by discrete flavour symmetry models, we analyse Spontaneous CP Violation (SCPV) for potentials involving three or six Higgs fi elds (both electroweak doublets and singlets) which fall into irreducible triplet representations of discrete symmetries belonging to the Delta(3n(2)) and Delta(6n(2)) series, including A(4), S-4, Delta(27) and Delta(54). For each case, we give the potential and fi nd various global minima for di ff erent regions of the parameter space of the potential. Using CP-odd basis Invariants that indicate the presence of Spontaneous CP Violation we separate the VEVs into those that do or do not violate CP. In cases where CP is preserved we reveal a CP symmetry of the potential that is preserved by those VEVs, otherwise we display a non-zero CP-odd Invariant. Finally we identify interesting cases where there is Spontaneous Geometrical CP Violation in which the VEVs have geometrical phases.

Abstract: The K hindrance to the gamma decay is studied in the warm rotating W-174 nucleus, focusing on the weakening of the selection rules of the K quantum number with increasing excitation energy. W-174 was populated by the fusion reaction of Ti-50 (at 217 MeV) on a Te-128 target, and its gamma decay was detected by the AGATA Demonstrator array coupled to a BaF2 multiplicity filter at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro of INFN. A fluctuation analysis of gamma coincidence matrices gives a similar number of low-K and high-K discrete excited bands. The results are compared to simulations of the gamma-decay flow based on a microscopic cranked shell model at finite temperature in which the K mixing is governed by the interplay of Coriolis force with the residual interaction. Agreement between simulations and experiment is obtained only by hindering the E1 decay between low-K and high-K bands by an amount compatible with that determined by spectroscopic studies of K isomers in the same mass region, with a similar trend with excitation energy. The work indicates that K mixing due to temperature effects may play a leading role for the entire body of discrete excited bands, which probes the onset region of K weakening.
