Title Updated search for long-lived particles decaying to jet pairs Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume 77 Issue 12 Pages 812 - 14pp
Keywords
Abstract A search is presented for long-lived particles with a mass between 25 and 50 GeV/c(2) and a lifetime between 2 and 500 ps, using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The particles are assumed to be pair-produced in the decay of a 125 GeV/c(2) Standard-Model-like Higgs boson. The experimental signature is a single long-lived particle, identified by a displaced vertex with two associated jets. No excess above background is observed and limits are set on the production cross-section as a function of the mass and lifetime of the long-lived particle.

Title First observation of the decay B-0 -> D-0(D)over-bar(0)K(+)pi(-) Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 102 Issue 5 Pages 051102 - 11pp
Keywords
Abstract The first observation of the decay B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(-) is reported using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011, 2012 and 2016. The measurement is performed in the full kinematically allowed range of the decay outside of the D*(-) region. The ratio of the branching fraction relative to that of the control channel B-0 -> D-0<(DK+)-K-0 pi(-)+ is measured to be R = (14.2 +/- 1.1 +/- 1.0)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The absolute branching fraction of B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(- )decays is thus determined to be B(B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(-)) = (3.50 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.30) x 10(-4), where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the control channel. This decay mode is expected to provide insights to spectroscopy and the charm-loop contributions in rare semileptonic decays.

Title First observation of the decay Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(-) Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 102 Issue 11 Pages 112012 - 12pp

Abstract The decay Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(- )is observed for the first time using a data sample of proton-proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5 fb I, collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The branching fraction of the decay is measured, using the Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decay as a normalization mode, to be B(Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(-)) = (1.06 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.06(-019)(+0.22)) x 10(-4), where the quoted uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to external inputs, respectively. A study of the eta(c)(1S)p mass spectrum is performed to search for the P-c(4312)(+) pentaquark state. No evidence is B(Lambda(0)(b) -> P-c(4312)K-+(-))xB(P-c(4312)(+)-> eta(c)(1S)p)/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(-)) < 0.24( ) observed and an upper limit of < 0.24 is obtained at the 95% confidence level.

Title Searches for 25 rare and forbidden decays of D+ and Ds+ mesons Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 06 Issue 6 Pages 044 - 24pp
Keywords Charm physics; Flavour physics; Flavour Changing Neutral Currents; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay
Abstract A search is performed for rare and forbidden charm decays of the form D+-> hl+l -/+, where h(+/-) is a pion or kaon and l((')+/-) is an electron or muon. The measurements are performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.6 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in 2016. No evidence is observed for the 25 decay modes that are investigated and 90 % confidence level limits on the branching fractions are set between 1.4 x 10(-8) and 6.4 x 10(-6). In most cases, these results represent an improvement on existing limits by one to two orders of magnitude.

Title Radiative b-baryon decays to measure the photon and b-baryon polarization Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume 79 Issue 7 Pages 634 - 10pp
Keywords
Abstract The radiative decays of b-baryons facilitate the direct measurement of photon helicity in b -> s gamma transitions thus serving as an important test of physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper we analyze the complete angular distribution of ground state b-baryon radiative decays to multibody final states assuming an initially polarized b-baryon sample. Our sensitivity study suggests that the photon polarization asymmetry can be extracted to a good accuracy along with a simultaneous measurement of the initial b-baryon polarization. With higher yields of b-baryons, achievable in subsequent runs of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we find that the photon polarization measurement can play a pivotal role in constraining different new physics scenarios.

Title On the search for the electric dipole moment of strange and charm baryons at LHC Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume 77 Issue 3 Pages 181 - 15pp
Keywords
Abstract Permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) of fundamental particles provide powerful probes for physics beyond the Standard Model. We propose to search for the EDM of strange and charm baryons at LHC, extending the ongoing experimental program on the neutron, muon, atoms, molecules and light nuclei. The EDM of strange. baryons, selected from weak decays of charm baryons produced in pp collisions at LHC, can be determined by studying the spin precession in the magnetic field of the detector tracking system. A test of CPT symmetry can be performed by measuring the magnetic dipole moment of. and. baryons. For short-lived Lambda(+)(c) and Xi(+)(c) baryons, to be produced in a fixedtarget experiment using the 7 TeV LHC beam and channeled in a bent crystal, the spin precession is induced by the intense electromagnetic field between crystal atomic planes. The experimental layout based on the LHCb detector and the expected sensitivities in the coming years are discussed.

Title Bose-Einstein correlations of same-sign charged pions in the forward region in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 12 Issue 12 Pages 025 - 22pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Particle correlations and fluctuations; QCD
Abstract Bose-Einstein correlations of same-sign charged pions, produced in proton-proton collisions at a 7TeV centre-of-mass energy, are studied using a data sample collected by the LHCb experiment. The signature for Bose-Einstein correlations is observed in the form of an enhancement of pairs of like-sign charged pions with small four-momentum difference squared. The charged-particle multiplicity dependence of the Bose-Einstein correlation parameters describing the correlation strength and the size of the emitting source is investigated, determining both the correlation radius and the chaoticity parameter. The measured correlation radius is found to increase as a function of increasing charged-particle multiplicity, while the chaoticity parameter is seen to decrease.

Abstract Measurements of the differential branching fraction and angular moments of the decay B-0 -> K+pi(-)mu(+)mu(-) in the K+pi(-) invariant mass range 1330 <m(K+pi(-)) < 1530 MeV/c(2) are presented. Proton-proton collision data are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. Differential branching fraction measurements are reported in five bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, q(2), between 0.1 and 8.0 GeV2/c(4). For the first time, an angular analysis sensitive to the S-, P- and D-wave contributions of this rare decay is performed. The set of 40 normalised angular moments describing the decay is presented for the q(2) range 1.1-6.0 GeV2/c(4).
