  Title Search for the decay modes D-0 -> e(+) e(-), D-0 -> mu(+) mu(-), and D-0 -> e(+/-) μ-/+ Type Journal Article

  Abstract We present searches for the rare decay modes D-0 -> e(+) e(-), D-0 -> mu(+) mu(-), and D-0 -> e(+/-) mu(-/+) in continuum e(+) e(-) -> c (c) over bar events recorded by the BABAR detector in a data sample that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 468 fb(-1). These decays are highly Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani suppressed but may be enhanced in several extensions of the standard model. Our observed event yields are consistent with the expected backgrounds. An excess is seen in the D-0 -> mu(+) mu(-) channel, although the observed yield is consistent with an upward background fluctuation at the 5% level. Using the Feldman-Cousins method, we set the following 90% confidence level intervals on the branching fractions: B(D-0 -> e(+) e(-)) < 1.7 x 10(-7), B(D-0 -> mu(+) mu(-)) within [0.6,8.1] x 10(-7), and B(D-0 -> e(+/-) mu(-/+)) < 3.3 x 10(-7).

  Title Study of CP violation in Dalitz-plot analyses of B-0 -> K+ K- K-s(0), B+ -> K+ K- K+, and B+ -> (KsKsK+)-K-0-K-0 Type Journal Article

  Abstract We perform amplitude analyses of the decays B-0 -> K+ K- K-s(0), B+ -> K+ K- K+, and B+ -> K-s(0) K-s(0) K+, and measure CP-violating parameters and partial branching fractions. The results are based on a data sample of approximately 470 x 10(6) B (B) over bar decays, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. For B+ -> K+ K- K+, we find a direct CP asymmetry in B+ -> phi(1020)K+ of A(CP) = (12.8 +/- 4.4 +/- 1.3)%, which differs from zero by 2.8 sigma. For B-0 -> K+ K- K-s(0), we measure the CP-violating phase ss(eff)(phi(1020)K-s(0)) = (21 +/- 6 +/- 2)degrees. For B+ -> K-s(0) K-s(0) K+, we measure an overall direct CP asymmetry of A(CP) = (4(-5)(+4) +/- 2)%. We also perform an angular-moment analysis of the three channels and determine that the f(X()1500) state can be described well by the sum of the resonances f(0)(1500), f(2)'(1525), and f(0)(1710).

  Title Initial-state radiation measurement of the e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) cross section Type Journal Article
  Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 85 Issue 11 Pages 112009 - 17pp
  Keywords
  Abstract We study the process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)pi(-)gamma, with a photon emitted from the initial-state electron or positron, using 454.3 fb(-1) of data collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC, corresponding to approximately 260 000 signal events. We use these data to extract the nonradiative sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)pi(-)) cross section in the energy range from 0.6 to 4.5 GeV. The total uncertainty of the cross section measurement in the peak region is less than 3%, higher in precision than the corresponding results obtained from energy scan data.

  Title Search for the decay modes B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l Type Journal Article
  Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 86 Issue 1 Pages 012004 - 14pp
  Keywords
  Abstract We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decay modes B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l (h = K, pi; l = e, mu) using the BABAR data sample, which corresponds to 472 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs. The search uses events where one B meson is fully reconstructed in one of several hadronic final states. Using the momenta of the reconstructed B, h, and l candidates, we are able to fully determine the tau four-momentum. The resulting tau candidate mass is our main discriminant against combinatorial background. We see no evidence for B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l decays and set a 90% confidence level upper limit on each branching fraction at the level of a few times 10(-5).

  Title Study of X (3915) -> J/psi omega in two-photon collisions Type Journal Article
  Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 86 Issue 7 Pages 072002 - 10pp
  Keywords
  Abstract We study the process gamma gamma -> J/psi omega using a data sample of 519.2 fb(-1) recorded by the BABAR detector at SLAC at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at center-of-mass energies near the gamma(nS) (n = 2, 3, 4) resonances. We confirm the existence of the charmoniumlike resonance X (3915) decaying to J/psi omega with a significance of 7.6 standard deviations, including systematic uncertainties, and measure its mass (3919.4 +/- 2.2 +/- 1.6) MeV/c(2) and width (13 +/- 6 +/- 3) MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. A spin-parity analysis supports the assignment J(P) = 0(+) and therefore the identification of the signal as due to the chi(c0)(2P) resonance. In this hypothesis we determine the product between the two-photon width and the final state branching fraction to be (52 +/- 10 +/- 3) eV.
