Abstract |
We show, from a diabatic analysis of lattice results for string breaking, that mixing of Q (Q) over bar with open-flavor meson-meson configurations may be expressed through a mixing potential which is order 1/m(Q). A relation between the minimum string breaking energy gap and the string tension comes out naturally. Using this relation, and matching the energy gap for b (b) over bar with lattice QCD data, we study the mixing in the c (c) over bar case without any additional parameter. A 1(++) bound state very close below the D-0(D) over bar*(0) threshold, in perfect correspondence with chi(c1)(3872), is predicted. |

Abstract |
We apply the diabatic formalism, first introduced in molecular physics, to the description of heavy-quark mesons. In this formalism the dynamics is completely described by a diabatic potential matrix whose elements can be derived from unquenched lattice QCD studies of string breaking. For energies far below the lowest open flavor meson-meson threshold, the resulting diabatic approach reduces to the well-known Born-Oppenheimer approximation where heavy-quark meson masses correspond to energy levels in an effective quark-antiquark potential. For energies close below or above that threshold, where the Born-Oppenheimer approximation fails, this approach provides a set of coupled Schrodinger equations incorporating meson-meson components nonperturbatively, i.e., beyond loop corrections. A spectral study of heavy mesons containing c (c) over bar with masses below 4.1 GeV is carried out within this framework. From it a unified description of conventional as well as unconventional resonances comes out. |

Abstract |
We nonperturbatively determine the renormalization factor of the axial vector current in lattice QCD with N-f = 3 flavors of Wilson-clover fermions and the tree-level Symanzik-improved gauge action. The (by now standard) renormalization condition is derived from the massive axial Ward identity, and it is imposed among Schrodinger functional states with large overlap on the lowest lying hadronic state in the pseudoscalar channel, in order to reduce kinematically enhanced cutoff effects. We explore a range of couplings relevant for simulations at lattice spacings of approximate to 0.09 fm and below. An interpolation formula for Z(A)(g(0)(2)) , smoothly connecting the nonperturbative values to the 1-loop expression, is provided together with our final results. |

Abstract |
Supersymmetry has often been invoked as the new physics that might reconcile the experimental muon magnetic anomaly, a(mu), with the theoretical prediction (basing the computation of the hadronic contribution on e(+)e(-) data). However, in the context of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM), the required supersymmetric contributions (which grow with decreasing supersymmetric masses) are in potential tension with a possibly large Higgs mass (which requires large stop masses). In the limit of very large m(h) supersymmetry gets decoupled, and the CMSSM must show the same discrepancy as the standard model with a(mu). But it is much less clear for which size of m(h) does the tension start to be unbearable. In this paper, we quantify this tension with the help of Bayesian techniques. We find that for m(h) >= 125 GeV the maximum level of discrepancy given the current data (similar to 3.2 sigma) is already achieved. Requiring less than 3 sigma discrepancy, implies m(h) less than or similar to 120 GeV. For a larger Higgs mass we should give up either the CMSSM model or the computation of a(mu) based on e(+)e(-); or accept living with such an inconsistency. |

Abstract |
We investigate future constraints on early dark energy (EDE) achievable by the Planck and CMBPol experiments, including cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing. For the dark energy, we include the possibility of clustering through a sound speed c(s)(2) < 1 (cold dark energy) and anisotropic stresses parametrized with a viscosity parameter c(vis)(2). We discuss the degeneracies between cosmological parameters and EDE parameters. In particular we show that the presence of anisotropic stresses in EDE models can substantially undermine the determination of the EDE sound speed parameter c(s)(2). The constraints on EDE primordial energy density are however unaffected. We also calculate the future CMB constraints on neutrino masses and find that they are weakened by a factor of 2 when allowing for the presence of EDE, and highly biased if it is incorrectly ignored. |

Abstract |
The spectrum of an isotropic extragalactic gamma-ray background (EGB) has been measured by the Fermi-LAT telescope at high latitudes. Two new models for the EGB are derived from the subtraction of unresolved point sources and extragalactic diffuse processes, which could explain from 30% to 70% of the Fermi-LAT EGB. Within the hypothesis that the two residual EGBs are entirely due to the annihilation of dark matter (DM) particles in the Galactic halo, we obtain stringent upper limits on their annihilation cross section. Severe bounds on a possible Sommerfeld enhancement of the annihilation cross section are set as well. Finally, we consider models for DM annihilation depending on the inverse of the velocity and associate the EGBs to photons arising from the annihilation of DM in primordial halos. Given our choices for the EGB and the minimal DM modeling, the derived upper bounds are claimed to be conservative. |

Abstract |
We propose a novel realization of the Nelson-Barr mechanism “seeded” by a dark sector containing scalars and vectorlike quarks. Charge parity (CP) and a Z8 symmetry are spontaneously broken by the complex vacuum expectation value of a singlet scalar, leaving a residual Z2 symmetry that stabilizes dark matter (DM). A complex Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix arises via one-loop corrections to the quark mass matrix mediated by the dark sector. In contrast with other proposals where nonzero contributions to the strong CP phase arise at the one-loop level, in our case this occurs only at two loops, enhancing naturalness. Our scenario also provides a viable weakly interacting massive particle scalar DM candidate. |

Abstract |
In this paper, we address the question of whether the almost four standard deviations difference between theory and experiment for the muon anomalous magnetic moment a(mu) can be explained as a higher-order Standard Model perturbation effect in the pion form factor measurements. This question has, until now, remained open, obscuring the source of discrepancies between the measurements. We calculate the last radiative corrections for the extraction of the pion form factor, which were believed to be potentially substantial enough to explain the data within the Standard Model. We find that the corrections are too small to diminish existing discrepancies in the determination of the pion form factor for different kinematical configurations of low-energy BABAR, BES-III and KLOE experiments. Consequently, they cannot noticeably change the previous predictions for a(mu) and decrease the deviations between theory and direct measurements. To solve the above issues, new data and better understanding of low-energy experimental setups are needed, especially as new direct a(mu) measurements at Fermilab and J-PARC will provide new insights and substantially shrink the experimental error. |

Abstract |
The next-to-leading order QCD corrections to W-+/-gamma. production in association with two jets via vector boson fusion are calculated, including the leptonic decay of the W with full off-shell effects and spin correlations. The process lends itself to a test of quartic gauge couplings. The next-to-leading order corrections reduce the scale uncertainty significantly and show a nontrivial phase space dependence. |

Abstract |
We study QCD radiation for the WH and WZ production processes at the LHC. We identify the regions sensitive to anomalous couplings, by considering jet observables, computed at next-to-leading-order QCD with the use of the Monte Carlo program VBFNLO. Based on these observations, we propose the use of a dynamical jet veto. The dynamical jet veto avoids the problem of large logarithms depending on the veto scale, hence providing more reliable predictions and simultaneously increasing the sensitivity to anomalous coupling searches, especially in the WZ production process. |
