Abstract: Measurements of CP observables in B-+/- -> DK*(+/-) decays are presented, where D denotes a superposition of D-0 and (D) over bar (0) meson states. Decays of the D meson to K-pi(+), K-K+, pi(-)pi(+), K-pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) and pi(-)pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) are used and the K*(+/-) meson is reconstructed in the K-S(0)pi(+/-) final state. This analysis uses a data sample of pp collisions collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1 fb(-1), 2 fb(-1) and 1.8 fb(-1) at centre-of-mass energies root s = 7TeV, 8TeV and 13TeV, respectively. The sensitivity of the results to the CKM angle gamma is discussed.

Abstract: The polarization of the (sic) (1S), (sic) (2S) and (sic) (3S) mesons, produced in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies root s = 7 and 8TeV, is measured using data samples collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1 and 2 fb(-1), respectively. The measurements are performed in three polarization frames, using (sic) -> μμdecays in the kinematic region of the transverse momentum p(T)((sic)) < 30 GeV/c and rapidity 2.2 < y((sic)) < 4.5. No large polarization is observed.

Abstract: A search for a long-lived scalar particle. is performed, looking for the decay B+ -> K+chi with chi ->mu(+)mu(-) pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of root s = 7 and 8 TeV. This new scalar particle, predicted by hidden sector models, is assumed to have a narrow width. The signal would manifest itself as an excess in the dimuon invariant mass distribution over the Standard Model background. No significant excess is observed in the accessible ranges of mass 250 < m(chi) < 4700 MeV/c(2) and lifetime 0.1 < tau(chi) < 1000 ps. Upper limits on the branching fraction B(B-broken vertical bar -> K-broken vertical bar chi(mu(vertical bar) mu(-))) at 95% confidence level are set as a function of m(chi) and tau(chi), varying between 2 x 10(-10) and 10(-7). These are the most stringent limits to date. The limits are interpreted in the context of a model with a light inflaton particle.

Abstract: The B-+/- meson production asymmetry in pp collisions is measured using B-+/- -> (D) over bar (0)pi(+) decays. The data were recorded by the LHCb experiment during Run 1 of the LHC at center- of- mass energies of ffiffiffi root s = 7 and 8 TeV. The production asymmetries, integrated over transverse momenta in the range 2 < p(T) < 30 GeV/c, and rapidities in the range 2.1 < y < 4.5 are measured to be A(prod)(B+, root s = 7 TeV) = (-0.41 +/- 0.49 +/- 0.10) x 10(- 2), A(prod)(B+, root s = 8 TeV = (- 0.53 +/- 0.31 +/- 0.10) x 10(-2), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These production asymmetries are used to correct the raw asymmetries of (B+ -> J/psi K+) decays, thus allowing a measurement of the CP asymmetry, A(CP)(B+-> J/psi K+) = (0.09 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.07) x 10(-2)

Abstract: Decays of the Xi(-)(b) and Omega(-)(b) baryons to the charmless final states ph(-)h'(-), where h((')) denotes a kaon or pion, are searched for with the LHCb detector. The analysis is based on a sample of proton-proton collision data collected at center-of-mass energies root s = 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). The decay Xi(-)(b) -> pK(-)K(-) is observed with a significance of 8.7 standard deviations, and evidence at the level of 3.4 standard deviations is found for the Xi(-)(b) -> pK(-)pi(-) decay. Results are reported, relative to the B- -> K+K-K- normalization channel, for the products of branching fractions and b-hadron production fractions. The branching fractions of Xi(-)(b) -> pK(-)pi(-) and Xi(-)(b) -> p pi(-)pi(-) relative to Xi(-)(b) -> pK(-)K(-) decays are also measured.

Abstract: Using decays to f-meson pairs, the inclusive production of charmonium states in b-hadron decays is studied with pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. Denoting by B-C = B(b -> CX) x B(C -> phi phi) the inclusive branching fraction of a b hadron to a charmonium state C that decays into a pair of phi mesons, ratios R-C2(C1) = B-C1/B-C2 are determined as R-eta c(1S)(chi c0) = 0.147 +/- 0.023 +/- 0.011, R-eta c(1S)(chi c1) = 0.073 +/- 0.016 +/- 0.006, R-eta c(1S)(chi c2) = 0.081 +/- 0.013 +/- 0.005, R-chi c0(chi c1) = 0.50 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.01, R-chi c0(chi c2) = 0.56 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.01 and R-eta c(1S)(eta c(2S)) = 0.040 +/- 0.011 +/- 0.004. Here and below the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Upper limits at 90% confidence level for the inclusive production of X(3872), X(3915) and.c2(2P) states are obtained as R-chi c1(X(3872)) < 0.34, R-chi c0(X(3915)) < 0.12 and R-chi c2(chi c2(2P)) < 0.16. Differential cross-sections as a function of transverse momentum are measured for the eta(c)(1S) and chi(c) states. The branching fraction of the decay B-s(0). phi phi phi is measured for the first time, B(B-s(0) -> phi phi phi) = (2.15 +/- 0.54 +/- 0.28 +/- 0.21 B) x10(-6). Here the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the decay B-s(0) -> phi phi, which is used for normalization. No evidence for intermediate resonances is seen. A preferentially transverse phi polarization is observed. Themeasurements allow the determination of the ratio of the branching fractions for the eta(c)(1S) decays to ff and p (p) over bar as B(eta(c)(1S) -> phi phi)/B(eta(c)(1S) -> p (p) over bar) = 1.79 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.32.

Abstract: A search for baryon-number violating Xi(0)(b) oscillations is performed with a sample of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). The baryon number at the moment of production is identified by requiring that the Xi(0)(b) come from the decay of a resonance Xi(b)*(-) -> Xi(0)(b)pi(-) or Xi(b)'(-) -> Xi(0)(b)pi(-) and the baryon number at the moment of decay is identified from the final state using the decays Xi(0)(b) -> Xi(0)(c)pi(-) , Xi(+-)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+). No evidence of baryon-number violation is found, and an upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on the oscillation rate of omega < 0.08 ps(-1), where. is the associated angular frequency.

Abstract: The SAFIR development represents a novel Positron Emission Tomography (PET) detector, conceived for preclinical fast acquisitions inside the bore of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner. The goal is hybrid and simultaneous PET/MRI dynamic studies at unprecedented temporal resolutions of a few seconds. The detector relies on matrices of scintillating LSO-based crystals coupled one-to-one with SiPM arrays and readout by fast ASIC5 with excellent timing resolution and high rate capabilities. The paper describes the detector concept and the initial results in terms of simulations and characterisation measurements.

Abstract: We present the development of the extended Skyrme N2LO pseudopotential in the case of spherical even-even nuclei calculations. The energy density functional is first presented. Then we derive the mean-field equations and discuss the numerical method used to solve the resulting fourth-order differential equation together with the behavior of the solutions at the origin. Finally, a fitting procedure for such an N2LO interaction is discussed and we provide a first parametrization. Typical ground-state observables are calculated and compared against experimental data.

Abstract: We study Born-Infeld gravity coupled to a static, non-rotating electric field in 2 + 1 dimensions and find exact analytical solutions. Two families of such solutions represent geodesically complete, and hence nonsingular, spacetimes. Another family represents a point-like charge with a singularity at the center. Despite the absence of rotation, these solutions resemble the charged, rotating BTZ solution of general relativity but with a richer structure in terms of horizons. The nonsingular character of the first two families turn out to be attached to the emergence of a wormhole structure on their innermost region. This seems to be a generic prediction of extensions of general relativity formulated in metric-affine (or Palatini) spaces, where metric and connection are regarded as independent degrees of freedom.
