Title Constraints on leptoquarks from lepton-flavour-violating tau-lepton processes Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 04 Issue 4 Pages 165 - 31pp
Keywords Beyond Standard Model; Effective Field Theories
Abstract Leptoquarks are ubiquitous in several extensions of the Standard Model and seem to be able to accommodate the universality-violation-driven B-meson-decay anomalies and the (g-2)(mu) discrepancy interpreted as deviations from the Standard Model predictions. In addition, the search for lepton-flavour violation in the charged sector is, at present, a major research program that could also be facilitated by the dynamics generated by leptoquarks. In this article, we consider a rather wide framework of both scalar and vector leptoquarks as the generators of lepton-flavour violation in processes involving the tau lepton. We single out its couplings to leptoquarks, thus breaking universality in the lepton sector, and we integrate out leptoquarks at tree level, generating the corresponding dimension-6 operators of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. In ref. [1] we obtained model-independent bounds on the Wilson coefficients of those operators contributing to lepton-flavour-violating hadron tau decays and l-tau conversion in nuclei, with l = e, mu. Hence, we use those results to translate the bounds into the couplings of leptoquarks to the Standard Model fermions.

Title Zcs states from the D*s over bar D* and J=psi K* coupled channels: Signal in B+ -> J=psi phi K+ decay Type Journal Article

Abstract We study the D*s over bar D* system in connection with the J=psi K* in coupled channels and observe that, within reasonable values of the cutoff used to regularize the loops, the system does not develop a bound state. However, the JP = 2+ channel has enough attraction to create a strong cusp structure that shows up in the J=psi K+ invariant mass distribution in the B+ -> J=psi phi K+ decay at the D*s over bar D* threshold. Such structure is results should stimulate further measurements around this region, given the fact that cusp effects provide as valuable information on hadron dynamics as resonances themselves.

Title Interpretation of the Omega(c) -> pi(+) Omega(2012) -> pi(+) ((K)over-bar Xi) relative to Omega(c) -> pi(+) (K)over-bar Xi from the Omega (2012) molecular perspective Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D

Abstract We present a mechanism for Omega(c) -> pi(+)Omega (2012) production through an external emission Cabibbo favored weak decay mode, where the Omega (2012) is dynamically generated from the interaction of (K) over bar Xi(*) (1530) and eta Omega, with (K) over bar Xi as the main decay channel. The Omega (2012) decays later to (K) over bar Xi. in this picture, with results compatible with Belle data. As a consequence, one can evaluate the direct decay Omega(0)(c) -> pi K-+(-)Xi(0) and the decay Omega(0)(c) -> pi(+)(K) over bar Xi* pi(+)eta Omega with direct couplings of (K) over bar Xi* and eta Omega to K-Xi(0). We show that, within uncertainties and using data from a recent Belle measurement, all three channels account for about (12-20)% of the total Omega(c) -> pi K-+(-)Xi(0) decay rate. The consistency of the molecular picture with all the data is established by showing that Omega(c) -> Xi(0)(K) over bar*(0) -> Xi K-0(-)pi(+) and Omega(c) -> pi(+)Omega* -> pi K-+(-Xi 0) account for about 85% of the total Omega(c) -> pi K-+(-)Xi(0).

Title Scintillation light detection in the 6-m drift-length ProtoDUNE Dual Phase liquid argon TPC Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C

Abstract DUNE is a dual-site experiment for long-baseline neutrino oscillation studies, neutrino astrophysics and nucleon decay searches. ProtoDUNE Dual Phase (DP) is a 6 x 6 x 6 m(3) liquid argon time-projection-chamber (LArTPC) that recorded cosmic-muon data at the CERN Neutrino Platform in 2019-2020 as a prototype of the DUNE Far Detector. Charged particles propagating through the LArTPC produce ionization and scintillation light. The scintillation light signal in these detectors can provide the trigger for non-beam events. In addition, it adds precise timing capabilities and improves the calorimetry measurements. In ProtoDUNE-DP, scintillation and electroluminescence light produced by cosmic muons in the LArTPC is collected by photomultiplier tubes placed up to 7m away from the ionizing track. In this paper, the ProtoDUNE-DP photon detection system performance is evaluated with a particular focus on the different wavelength shifters, such as PEN and TPB, and the use of Xe-doped LAr, considering its future use in giant LArTPCs. The scintillation light production and propagation processes are analyzed and a comparison of simulation to data is performed, improving understanding of the liquid argon properties.

Title Low exposure long-baseline neutrino oscillation sensitivity of the DUNE experiment Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 105 Issue 7 Pages 072006 - 32pp

Abstract The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will produce world-leading neutrino oscillation measurements over the lifetime of the experiment. In this work, we explore DUNE's sensitivity to observe charge-parity violation (CPV) in the neutrino sector, and to resolve the mass ordering, for exposures of up to 100 kiloton-megawatt-calendar years (kt-MW-CY), where calendar years include an assumption of 57% accelerator uptime based on past accelerator performance at Fermilab. The analysis includes detailed uncertainties on the flux prediction, the neutrino interaction model, and detector effects. We demonstrate that DUNE will be able to unambiguously resolve the neutrino mass ordering at a 4 sigma (5 sigma) level with a 66 (100) kt-MW-CY far detector exposure, and has the ability to make strong statements at significantly shorter exposures depending on the true value of other oscillation parameters, with a median sensitivity of 3 sigma for almost all true delta(CP) values after only 24 kt-MW-CY. We also show that DUNE has the potential to make a robust measurement of CPV at a 3 sigma level with a 100 kt-MW-CY exposure for the maximally CP-violating values delta(CP) = +/-pi/2. Additionally, the dependence of DUNE's sensitivity on the exposure taken in neutrino-enhanced and antineutrino-enhanced running is discussed. An equal fraction of exposure taken in each beam mode is found to be close to optimal when considered over the entire space of interest.
