Title Shift symmetry and Higgs inflation in supergravity with observable gravitational waves Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 11 Issue 11 Pages 114 - 28pp
Keywords Cosmology of Theories beyond the SM; Supergravity Models; Supersymmetric Effective Theories
Abstract (down) We demonstrate how to realize within supergravity a novel chaotic-type inflationary scenario driven by the radial parts of a conjugate pair of Higgs superfields causing the spontaneous breaking of a grand unified gauge symmetry at a scale assuming the value of the supersymmetric grand unification scale. The superpotential is uniquely determined at the renormalizable level by the gauge symmetry and a continuous R symmetry. We select two types of Kahler potentials, which respect these symmetries as well as an approximate shift symmetry. In particular, they include in a logarithm a dominant shift-symmetric term proportional to a parameter c together with a small term violating this symmetry and characterized by a parameter c(+). In both cases, imposing a lower bound on c, inflation can be attained with subplanckian values of the original inflaton, while the corresponding effective theory respects perturbative unitarity for r +/- = c(+)/c_ <= 1. These inflationary models do not lead to overproduction of cosmic defects, are largely independent of the one-loop radiative corrections and accommodate, for natural values of r +/-, observable gravitational waves consistently with all the current observational data. The inflaton mass is mostly confined in the range (3.7 – 8.1) x 10(10) GeV.

Title Family nonuniversal Z ' models with protected flavor-changing interactions Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 92 Issue 1 Pages 015007 - 17pp

Abstract (down) We define a new class of Z' models with neutral flavor-changing interactions at tree level in the down-quark sector. They are related in an exact way to elements of the quark mixing matrix due to an underlying flavored U(1)' gauge symmetry, rendering these models particularly predictive. The same symmetry implies lepton-flavor nonuniversal couplings, fully determined by the gauge structure of the model. Our models allow us to address presently observed deviations from the standard model and specific correlations among the new physics contributions to the Wilson coefficients C-9, 10((')l) can be tested in b -> sl(+)l(-) transitions. We furthermore predict lepton-universality violations in Z' decays, testable at the LHC.

Title Decay widths of the spin-2 partners of the X(3872) Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 75 Issue 11 Pages 547 - 26pp
  Keywords
Abstract (down) We consider the X(3872) resonance as a J(PC) = 1(++) D (D) over bar* hadronic molecule. According to heavy quark spin symmetry, there will exist a partner with quantum numbers 2(++), X-2, which would be a D*(D) over bar* loosely bound state. The X-2 is expected to decay dominantly into D (D) over bar, D (D) over bar* and (D) over barD* in d-wave. In this work, we calculate the decay widths of the X-2 resonance into the above channels, as well as those of its bottom partner, X-b2, the mass of which comes from assuming heavy flavor symmetry for the contact terms. We find partial widths of the X-2 and X-b2 of the order of a few MeV. Finally, we also study the radiative X-2 -> D (D) over bar*gamma. and X-b2 -> (B) over bar B*gamma decays. These decay modes are more sensitive to the long-distance structure of the resonances and to the D (D) over bar* or B (B) over bar* final state interaction.

Title Bounds on very low reheating scenarios after Planck Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 92 Issue 12 Pages 123534 - 9pp
  Keywords
Abstract (down) We consider the case of very low reheating scenarios [T-RH similar to O(MeV)] with a better calculation of the production of the relic neutrino background (with three-flavor oscillations). At 95% confidence level, a lower bound on the reheating temperature T-RH > 4.1 MeV is obtained from big bang nucleosynthesis, while T-RH > 4.7 MeV from Planck data (allowing neutrino masses to vary), the most stringent bound on the reheating temperature to date. Neutrino masses as large as 1 eV are possible for very low reheating temperatures.

Title Kinetically modified nonminimal chaotic inflation Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 91 Issue 12 Pages 123508 - 6pp
  Keywords
Abstract (down) We consider supersymmetric (SUSY) and non-SUSY models of chaotic inflation based on the phi(n) potential with 2 <= n <= 6. We show that the coexistence of a nonminimal coupling to gravity f(R) = 1 + c(R)phi(n/2) with a kinetic mixing of the form f(K) = c(K)f(R)(m) can accommodate inflationary observables favored by the BICEP2/Keck Array and Planck results for 0 <= m <= 4 and 2.5 x 10(-4) <= r(RK) = c(R)/c(K)(n/4) <= 1, where the upper limit is not imposed for n 2. Inflation can be attained for sub-Planckian inflaton values with the corresponding effective theories retaining the perturbative unitarity up to the Planck scale.
