Abstract: This paper reports searches for heavy resonances decaying into ZZ or ZW using data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s – 13 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb(-1), were recorded with the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016 at the Large Hadron Collider. The searches are performed in final states in which one Z boson decays into either a pair of light charged leptons (electrons and muons) or a pair of neutrinos, and the associated W boson or the other Z boson decays hadronically. No evidence of the production of heavy resonances is observed. Upper bounds on the production cross sections of heavy resonances times their decay branching ratios to ZZ or ZW are derived in the mass range 300-5000 GeV within the context of Standard Model extensions with additional Higgs bosons, a heavy vector triplet or warped extra dimensions. Production through gluon-gluon fusion, Drell-Yan or vector-boson fusion are considered, depending on the assumed model.

Abstract: This paper reports on a search for narrow resonances in diboson production in the llq (q) over bar final state using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb(-1) collected at root s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of data events over the Standard Model expectation is observed. Upper limits at the 95 % confidence level are set on the production cross section times branching ratio for Kaluza-Klein gravitons predicted by the Randall-Sundrum model and for Extended Gauge Model W' bosons. These results lead to the exclusion of mass values below 740 and 1590 GeV for the graviton and W' boson respectively.

Abstract: This paper reports inclusive and differential measurements of the t (t) over bar charge asymmetry A(C) in 20.3 fb(-1) of root s = 8 TeV pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Three differential measurements are performed as a function of the invariant mass, transverse momentum and longitudinal boost of the t (t) over bar system. The t (t) over bar pairs are selected in the single-lepton channels (e or mu) with at least four jets, and a likelihood fit is used to reconstruct the t (t) over bar event kinematics. A Bayesian unfolding procedure is performed to infer the asymmetry at parton level from the observed data distribution. The inclusive t (t) over bar charge asymmetry is measured to be A(C) = 0.009 +/- 0.005 (stat. + syst.). The inclusive and differential measurements are compatible with the values predicted by the Standard Model.

Abstract: This paper reports a search for triboson (WWW -/+)-W-+/--W-+/- production in two decay channels ((WWW -/+)-W-+/--W-+/- -> l(+/-)vl(+/-)vl(-/+) v and (WWW -/+)-W-+/--W-+/- -> l(+/-)vl(+/-)vjj with l = e, mu) in proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with exactly three charged leptons, or two leptons with the same electric charge in association with two jets, are selected. The total number of events observed in data is consistent with the Standard Model (SM) predictions. The observed 95% confidence level upper limit on the (WWW -/+)-W-+/--W-+/- production cross section is found to be 730 fb with an expected limit of 560 fb in the absence of SM (WWW -/+)-W-+/--W-+/- production. Limits are also set on WWWW anomalous quartic gauge couplings.

Abstract: This paper reports a measurement of the W+b-jets (W+b+X and W+b (b) over bar +X) production cross-section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC. These results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1), collected with the ATLAS detector. Cross-sections are presented as a function of jet multiplicity and of the transverse momentum of the leading b-jet for both the muon and electron decay modes of the W boson. The W+b-jets cross-section, corrected for all known detector effects, is quoted in a limited kinematic range. Combining the muon and electron channels, the fiducial cross-section for W+b-jets is measured to be 7.1 +/- 0.5 (stat) +/- 1.4 (syst) pb, consistent with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction, corrected for non-perturbative and double-parton interactions (DPI) contributions, of 4.70 +/- 0.09 (stat) (+0.60)(-0.49) (scale) +/- 0.06 (PDF) +/- 0.16 (non-pert) (+0.52)(-0.38) (DPI) pb.

Abstract: This paper reports a detailed study of techniques for identifying boosted, hadronically decaying W bosons using 20.3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy root s = 8 TeV. A range of techniques for optimising the signal jet mass resolution are combined with various jet substructure variables. The results of these studies in Monte Carlo simulations show that a simple pairwise combination of groomed jet mass and one substructure variable can provide a 50 % efficiency for identifying W bosons with transverse momenta larger than 200 GeV while maintaining multijet background efficiencies of 2-4% for jets with the same transverse momentum. These signal and background efficiencies are confirmed in data for a selection of tagging techniques.

Abstract: This paper presents the performance of the ATLAS muon reconstruction during the LHC run with pp collisions at root s = 7-8 TeV in 2011-2012, focusing mainly on data collected in 2012. Measurements of the reconstruction efficiency and of the momentum scale and resolution, based on large reference samples of J/psi -> μmu, Z -> μμand gamma -> μμdecays, are presented and compared to Monte Carlo simulations. Corrections to the simulation, to be used in physics analysis, are provided. Over most of the covered phase space (muon |eta| < 2.7 and 5 less than or similar to p(T) less than or similar to 100 GeV) the efficiency is above 99% and is measured with per-mille precision. The momentum resolution ranges from 1.7% at central rapidity and for transverse momentum p(T) similar or equal to 10 GeV, to 4% at large rapidity and p(T) similar or equal to 100 GeV. The momentum scale is known with an uncertainty of 0.05% to 0.2% depending on rapidity. A method for the recovery of final state radiation from the muons is also presented.

Abstract: This paper presents the method and performance of primary vertex reconstruction in proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment during Run 1 of the LHC. The studies presented focus on data taken during 2012 at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV. The performance has been measured as a function of the number of interactions per bunch crossing over a wide range, from one to seventy. The measurement of the position and size of the luminous region and its use as a constraint to improve the primary vertex resolution are discussed. A longitudinal vertex position resolution of about 30 μm is achieved for events with high multiplicity of reconstructed tracks. The transverse position resolution is better than 20 μm and is dominated by the precision on the size of the luminous region. An analytical model is proposed to describe the primary vertex reconstruction efficiency as a function of the number of interactions per bunch crossing and of the longitudinal size of the luminous region. Agreement between the data and the predictions of this model is better than 3% up to seventy interactions per bunch crossing.

Abstract: This paper presents the measurement of the relative width difference Delta Gamma(d)/Gamma(d) of the B-0-(B) over bar (0) system using the data collected by the Lambda TLAS experiment at the LHC in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV and root s= 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25.2 fb(-1). The value of Delta Gamma(d)/Gamma(d) is obtained by comparing the decay-time distributions of B-0 -> J/Psi K-S and (B) over bar (0) -> J/Psi K*(0)(892) decays. The result is Delta Gamma(d)/Gamma(d) = (-0.1 +/- 1.1 (stat.) +/- 0.9 (syst.)) x 10(-2). Currently, this is the most precise single measurement of AFd/Fd. It agrees with the Standard Model prediction and the measurements by other experiments.

Abstract: This paper presents the extended results of measurements of (WW +/-)-W-+/- jj production and limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings using 20.3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at root s = 8 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two leptons (e or mu) with the same electric charge and at least two jets are analyzed. Production cross sections are determined in two fiducial regions, with different sensitivities to the electroweak and strong production mechanisms. An additional fiducial region, particularly sensitive to anomalous quartic gauge coupling parameters alpha 4 and alpha 5, is introduced, which allows more stringent limits on these parameters compared to the previous ATLAS measurement.
