  Title Evidence for the h(b)(1P) meson in the decay Y(3S) -> pi(0)h(b)(1P) Type Journal Article

  Abstract (down) Using a sample of 122 x 10(6) Y(3S) events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at SLAC, we search for the h(b)(1P) spin-singlet partner of the P-wave X(bJ)(1P) states in the sequential decay Y(3S) -> pi(0)h(b) (1P), hb(1P) -> gamma eta(b)(1S). We observe an excess of events above background in the distribution of the recoil mass against the pi(0) at mass 9902 +/- 4(stat) +/- 2(syst) MeV/c(2). The width of the observed signal is consistent with experimental resolution, and its significance is 3.1 sigma, including systematic uncertainties. We obtain the value (4.3 +/- 1.1(stat) +/- 0.9(syst) x 10(-4) for the product branching fraction B(Y(3S) -> pi(0)h(b)) XB (h(b) -> gamma eta(b))

  Abstract (down) Using a sample of (470.9 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs, we measure the decay branching fraction B(B-0 -> D*(-)pi(+)pi(-)pi(-)) = (7.26 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Our measurement will be helpful in studies of lepton universality by measuring B(B-0 -> D*(-)tau(+)nu(tau)) using tau(+) -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)(nu) over bar (tau) decays, normalized to B(B-0 -> D*(-)pi(+)pi(-)pi(-)).

  Abstract (down) The processes e(+) e(-) -> (KsK +/-)-K-0 pi(-/+)pi(0) and e(+) e(-) -> K-s(0) K-+/-pi(-/+)eta are studied over a continuum of energies from threshold to 4 GeV with the initial-state photon radiation method. Using 454 fb(-1) of data collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II storage ring, the first measurements of the cross sections for these processes are obtained. The intermediate resonance structures from K-*0(K pi)(0), K*(892)(+/-)(K pi)(T),and (KsK +/-)-K-0 rho(-/+)are studied. The J/psi is observed in all of these channels, and corresponding branching fractions are measured.

  Abstract (down) The process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)2 pi(0)gamma is investigated by means of the initial-state radiation technique, where a photon is emitted from the incoming electron or positron. Using 454.3 fb(-1) of data collected around a centerof- mass energy of root s = 10.58 GeV by the BABAR experiment at SLAC, approximately 150000 signal events are obtained. The corresponding nonradiative cross section is measured with a relative uncertainty of 3.6% in the energy region around 1.5 GeV, surpassing all existing measurements in precision. Using this new result, the channel's contribution to the leading order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is calculated as (g(mu)(pi+ pi-2 pi 0) – 2)/2 = (17.9 +/- 0.1(stat) +/- 0.6(syst)) x 10(-10) in the energy range 0.85 GeV < ECM < 1.8 GeV. In the same energy range, the impact on the running of the fine-structure constant at the Z(0)-pole is determined as Delta alpha(pi+ pi-2 pi 0) (M-Z(2)) = (4.44 +/- 0.02(stat) +/- 0.14(syst)) x 10(-4). Furthermore, intermediate resonances are studied and especially the cross section of the process e(+)e(-) -> omega pi(0) -> pi(+)pi(-)2 pi(0) is measured.

  Abstract (down) The process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0)gamma is studied at a center-of-mass energy near the Upsilon(4S) resonance using a data sample of 469 fb(-1) collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. We have performed a precise measurement of the e(+)e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0) cross section in the center-of-mass energy range from 0.62 to 3.5 GeV. In the energy regions of the omega and phi resonances, the cross section is measured with a systematic uncertainty of 1.3%. The leading-order hadronic contribution to the muon magnetic anomaly calculated using the measured e(+) e(-) -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0) cross section from threshold to 2.0 GeV is (45.86 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.58) x 10(-10). From the fit to the measured 3 pi mass spectrum we have determined the resonance parameters Gamma(omega -> e(+)e(-)) B(omega -> pi(+) pi- pi(0)) = (0.5698 +/- 0.0031 +/- 0.0082) keV, Gamma(phi -> e(+)e(-)) B(phi -> pi(+) pi(-)pi(0)) = (0.1841 +/- 0.0021 +/- 0.0080) keV, and B(rho -> 3 pi) = (0.88 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.30) x 10(-4). The significance of the rho -> 3 pi signal is greater than 6 sigma. For the J/psi resonance we have measured the product Gamma(J/psi -> e(+) e(-)) B (J/psi -> 3 pi) = (0.1248 +/- 0.0019 +/- 0.0026) keV.
