Abstract: Cross-section measurements for a Z boson produced in association with high-transverse-momentum jets ((pT) >= 100 GeV) and decaying into a charged-lepton pair (e(+) e(-), mu(+)mu(-)) are presented. The measurements are performed using proton-proton collisions at root s = 13TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1) collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Measurements of angular correlations between the Z boson and the closest jet are performed in events with at least one jet with (pT) >= 500 GeV. Event topologies of particular interest are the collinear emission of a Z boson in dijet events and a boosted Z boson recoiling against a jet. Fiducial cross sections are compared with state-of-the-art theoretical predictions. The data are found to agree with next-to-nextto-leading-order predictions by NNLOjet and with the next-to-leading-order multi-leg generators MadGraph5_aMC@NLO and Sherpa.

Abstract: Constraints on the Higgs boson self-coupling are set by combining double-Higgs boson analyses in the bb over bar bb over bar , bb over bar & tau;+& tau;- and bb over bar & gamma; & gamma; decay channels with single-Higgs boson analyses targeting the & gamma;& gamma;, Z Z*, W W *, & tau;+& tau;- and bb over bar decay channels. The data used in these analyses were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at & RADIC;s = 13 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 126-139 fb-1. The combination of the double-Higgs analyses sets an upper limit of & mu;HH < 2.4 at 95% confidence level on the double-Higgs production cross-section normalised to its Standard Model prediction. Combining the single-Higgs and double-Higgs analyses, with the assumption that new physics affects only the Higgs boson self-coupling (& lambda;HHH), values outside the interval -0.4 < & kappa;& lambda; = (& lambda;HHH/& lambda;SM H H H ) < 6.3 are excluded at 95% confidence level. The combined single-Higgs and double-Higgs analyses provide results with fewer assumptions, by adding in the fit more coupling modifiers introduced to account for the Higgs boson interactions with the other Standard Model particles. In this relaxed scenario, the constraint becomes -1.4 < & kappa;& lambda; < 6.1 at 95% CL.

Abstract: ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb-1 of p + Pb data collected at root sNN = 8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p + Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, RCP, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The RCP shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, xp, while no such trend is observed as a function of xPb. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p + Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to xp similar to 10-3 and xPb similar to 4 x 10-4.

Abstract: Asearch for the associated production of a heavy resonance with a top-quark or a top-antitop-quark pair, and decaying into a t (t) over bar pair is presented. The search uses the vdata recorded by the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider during the years 2015-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). Events containing exactly one electron ormuon are selected. The two hadronically decaying top quarks from the resonance decay are reconstructed using jets clustered with a large radius parameter of R = 1. The invariant mass spectrum of the two top quark candidates is used to search for a resonance signal in the range of 1.0 TeV to 3.2 TeV. The presence of a signal is examined using an approach with minimal model dependence followed by a model-dependent interpretation. No significant excess is observed over the background expectation. Upper limits on the production cross section times branching ratio at 95% confidence level are provided for a heavy Z' boson based on a simplified model, for Z' mass between 1.0 TeV and 3.0 TeV. The observed (expected) limits range from 21 (14) fb to 119 (86) fb depending on the choice of model parameters.

Abstract: A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H -> gamma gamma channel using 139 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at root s = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data. Constraints are set on the parameters describing the strength of the CP-odd component in the coupling between the Higgs boson and the electroweak gauge bosons in two effective field theory bases: (d) over tilde in the HISZ basis and c(H (W) over tilde) in the Warsaw basis. The results presented are the most stringent constraints on CP violation in the coupling between Higgs and weak bosons. The 95% C.L. constraint on (d) over tilde is derived for the first time and the 95% C.L. constraint on c(H (W) over tilde) has been improved by a factor of 5 compared to the previous measurement.
