Title Search for second generation scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article

Abstract (down) The results of a search for the production of second generation scalar leptoquarks are presented for final states consisting of either two muons and at least two jets or a muon plus missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. A total of 1.03 fb(-1) integrated luminosity of proton-proton collision data produced by the Large Hadron Collider at root s = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector is used for the search. The event yields in the signal regions are found to be consistent with the Standard Model background expectations. The production of second generation leptoquarks is excluded for a leptoquark mass m(LQ) < 594 (685) GeV at 95 % confidence level, for a branching ratio of 0.5 (1.0) for leptoquark decay to a muon and a quark.

Title Search for supersymmetry in pp collisions at root s=7 Te V in final states with missing transverse momentum and b-jets with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article

  Volume 85 Issue 11 Pages 112006 - 29pp

Abstract (down) The results of a search for supersymmetry in events with large missing transverse momentum and heavy-flavor jets using an integrated luminosity corresponding to 2.05 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are reported. No significant excess is observed with respect to the prediction for standard model processes. Results are interpreted in a variety of R-parity conserving models in which scalar bottoms and tops are the only scalar quarks to appear in the gluino decay cascade, and in an SO(10) model framework. Gluino masses up to 600-900 GeV are excluded, depending on the model considered.

Abstract (down) The results of a search for pair production of the scalar partners of bottom quarks in 2: 05 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS experiment are reported. Scalar bottom quarks are searched for in events with large missing transverse momentum and two jets in the final state, where both jets are identified as originating from a bottom quark. In an R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric scenario, assuming that the scalar bottom quark decays exclusively into a bottom quark and a neutralino, 95% confidence-level upper limits are obtained in the (b) over tilde (1) – (chi) over tilde (0)(1) mass plane such that for neutralino masses below 60 GeV scalar bottom masses up to 390 GeV are excluded.

Title Search for scalar top quark pair production in natural gauge mediated supersymmetry models with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV Type Journal Article

Abstract (down) The results of a search for pair production of the lighter scalar partners of top quarks ((t) over bar (1)) in 2.05 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are reported. Scalar top quarks are searched for in events with two same flavour opposite-sign leptons (e, mu) with invariant mass consistent with the Z boson mass, large missing transverse momentum and jets in the final state. At least one of the jets is identified as originating from a b-quark. No excess over Standard Model expectations is found. The results are interpreted in the framework of R-parity conserving, gauge mediated Supersymmetry breaking 'natural' scenarios, where the neutralino ((chi) over bar (0)(1)) is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle. Scalar top quark masses up to 310 GeV are excluded for 115 GeV m(<(chi) over bar1)(0) 230 GeV at 95% confidence level, reaching an exclusion of m(<(t) over bar1) 330 GeV for m(<(chi) over bar1)(0) = 190 GeV. Scalar top quark masses below 240 GeV are excluded for all values of m((chi) over bar1)(0) > m(z).

Title Search for direct third-generation squark pair production in final states with missing transverse momentum and two b-jets in root s=8 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 10 Issue 10 Pages 189 - 40pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Supersymmetry
Abstract (down) The results of a search for pair production of supersymmetric partners of the Standard Model third-generation quarks are reported. This search uses 20.1 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 8 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The lightest bottom and top squarks ((b) over tilde (1) and (t) over tilde (1) respectively) are searched for in a final state with large missing transverse momentum and two jets identified as originating from b-quarks. No excess of events above the expected level of Standard Model background is found. The results are used to set upper limits on the visible cross section for processes beyond the Standard Model. Exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level on the masses of the third-generation squarks are derived in phenomenological supersymmetric R-parity-conserving models in which either the bottom or the top squark is the lightest squark. The (b) over tilde (1) is assumed to decay via (b) over tilde (1) -> b (chi) over tilde (0)(1) and the (t) over tilde (1) via (t) over tilde (1) b (chi) over tilde (+/-)(1), with undetectable products of the subsequent decay of the (chi) over tilde (+/-)(1) due to the small mass splitting between the (chi) over tilde (+/-)(1) and the (chi) over tilde (0)(1)
