  Abstract (up) The aim of the Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) project is the construction of an array based on the novel concepts of pulse shape analysis and gamma-ray tracking with highly segmented Ge semiconductor detectors. The conceptual design of AGATA and its performance evaluation under different experimental conditions has required the development of a suitable Monte Carlo code. In this article, the description of the code as well as simulation results relevant for AGATA, are presented.

  Abstract (up) The Ar-40 + Pb-208 multinucleon transfer reaction has been studied at E-lab = 255 MeV with the large solid angle magnetic spectrometer PRISMA. Mass and charge yields, differential and total cross sections, total kinetic energy loss distributions of different channels were simultaneously measured. Angular distributions were measured in a wide angular range by matching different spectrometer angular settings. Absolute cross sections were obtained by careful evaluation of the spectrometer response function. These cross sections for different transfer channels allow the discussion of the role played by nucleon-nucleon correlations.

  Title beta decay of Cd-129 and excited states in In-129 Type Journal Article

  Abstract (up) The beta decay of Cd-129, produced in the relativistic fission of a U-238 beam, was experimentally studied at the RIBF facility at the RIKEN Nishina Center. From the gamma radiation emitted after the beta decays, a level scheme of In-129 was established comprising 31 excited states and 69 gamma-ray transitions. The experimentally determined level energies are compared to state-of-the-art shell-model calculations. The half-lives of the two beta-decaying states in Cd-129 were deduced and the beta feeding to excited states in In-129 were analyzed. It is found that, as in most cases in the Z < 50, N <= 82 region, both decays are dominated by the nu 0g(7/2) -> pi 0g(9/2) Gamow-Teller transition, although the contribution of first-forbidden transitions cannot be neglected.

  Abstract (up) The beta decay of the semi-magic nucleus Cd-130 has been studied at the RIBF facility at the RIKEN Nishina Center. The high statistics of the present experiment allowed for a revision of the established level scheme of In-130 and the observation of additional beta feeding to high- lying core-excited states in In-130. The experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations employing a model space consisting of the full major N = 50-82 neutron and Z = 28-50 proton shells and the NA-14 interaction, and good agreement is found.

  Abstract (up) The beta decays of (150)Er, (152)Yb, and (156)Yb nuclei are investigated using the total absorption spectroscopy technique. These nuclei can be considered possible candidates for forming the beam of a monoenergetic neutrino beam facility based on the electron capture (EC) decay of radioactive nuclei. Our measurements confirm that for the cases studied the EC decay proceeds mainly to a single state in the daughter nucleus.
