Title Measurement of the top quark pair production charge asymmetry in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 02 Issue 2 Pages 107 - 38pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Top physics
Abstract (down) This paper presents a measurement of the top quark pair () production charge asymmetry A (C) using 4.7 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. A -enriched sample of events with a single lepton (electron or muon), missing transverse momentum and at least four high transverse momentum jets, of which at least one is tagged as coming from a b-quark, is selected. A likelihood fit is used to reconstruct the event kinematics. A Bayesian unfolding procedure is employed to estimate A (C) at the parton-level. The measured value of the production charge asymmetry is A (C) = 0.006 +/- 0.010, where the uncertainty includes both the statistical and the systematic components. Differential A (C) measurements as a function of the invariant mass, the rapidity and the transverse momentum of the system are also presented. In addition, A (C) is measured for a subset of events with large velocity, where physics beyond the Standard Model could contribute. All measurements are consistent with the Standard Model predictions.

Title Measurements of the production cross-section for a Z boson in association with b-jets in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 07 Issue 7 Pages 044 - 58pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments)
Abstract (down) This paper presents a measurement of the production cross-section of aZboson in association withb-jets, in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.6 fb(-1). Inclusive and differential cross-sections are measured for events containing aZboson decaying into electrons or muons and produced in association with at least one or at least two b-jets with transverse momentum p(T)>20 GeV and rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar <2.5. Predictions from several Monte Carlo generators based on leading-order (LO) or next-to-leading-order (NLO) matrix elements interfaced with a parton-shower simulation and testing different flavour schemes for the choice of initial-state partons are compared with measured cross-sections. The 5-flavour number scheme predictions at NLO accuracy agree better with data than 4-flavour number scheme ones. The 4-flavour number scheme predictions underestimate data in events with at least one b-jet.

Title Measurement of the double-differential high-mass Drell-Yan cross section in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 08 Issue 8 Pages 009 - 61pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments)
Abstract (down) This paper presents a measurement of the double-differential cross section for the Drell-Yan Z/gamma* -> l(+)l(-) and photon-induced gamma gamma -> l(+)l(-) processes where l is an electron or muon. The measurement is performed for invariant masses of the lepton pairs, m(ll), between 116 GeV and 1500 GeV using a sample of 20.3 fb(-1) of pp collisions data at centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2012. The data are presented double differentially in invariant mass and absolute dilepton rapidity as well as in invariant mass and absolute pseudorapidity separation of the lepton pair. The single-differential cross section as a function of m(ll) is also reported. The electron and muon channel measurements are combined and a total experimental precision of better than 1% is achieved at low m(ll). A comparison to next-to-next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions using several recent parton distribution functions and including next-to-leading order electroweak effects indicates the potential of the data to constrain parton distribution functions. In particular, a large impact of the data on the photon PDF is demonstrated.

Title Measurements of the pseudorapidity dependence of the total transverse energy in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV with ATLAS Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 11 Issue 11 Pages 033 - 54pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract (down) This paper describes measurements of the sum of the transverse energy of particles as a function of particle pseudorapidity, eta, in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy, root s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are performed in the region \eta\ < 4.8 for two event classes: those requiring the presence of particles with a low transverse momentum and those requiring particles with a significant transverse momentum. In the second dataset measurements are made in the region transverse to the hard scatter. The distributions are compared to the predictions of various Monte Carlo event generators, which generally tend to underestimate the amount of transverse energy at high \eta\.

Title Search for single production of vector-like T quarks decaying into Ht or Zt in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 08 Issue 8 Pages 153 - 69pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Vector-Like Quarks
Abstract (down) This paper describes a search for the single production of an up-type vector-like quark (T) decaying as T -> Ht or T -> Zt. The search utilises a dataset of pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector during the 2015-2018 data-taking period of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). Data are analysed in final states containing a single lepton with multiple jets and b-jets. The presence of boosted heavy resonances in the event is exploited to discriminate the signal from the Standard Model background. No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed, and 95% CL upper limits are set on the production cross section of T quarks in different decay channels. The results are interpreted in several benchmark scenarios to set limits on the mass and universal coupling strength (kappa) of the vector-like quark. For singlet T quarks, kappa values above 0.53 are excluded for all masses below 2.3 TeV. At a mass of 1.6 TeV, kappa values as low as 0.35 are excluded. For T quarks in the doublet scenario, where the production cross section is much lower, kappa values above 0.72 are excluded for all masses below 1.7 TeV, and this exclusion is extended to kappa above 0.55 for low masses around 1.0 TeV.
