  Abstract (down) We study the time evolution of the numbers of charm mesons after the kinetic freeze-out of the hadron gas produced by a central heavy-ion collision. The pi D* -> pi D* reaction rates have t-channel singularities that give contributions inversely proportional to the thermal width of the D. The ratio of the D0 and D+ production rates can differ significantly from those predicted using the measured D* branching fractions.

  Abstract (down) We study the theoretical constraints on a model whose scalar sector contains one color octet and one or two color singlet SU(2)(L) doublets. To ensure unitarity of the theory, we constrain the parameters of the scalar potential for the first time at the next-to-leading order in perturbation theory. Moreover, we derive new conditions guaranteeing the stability of the potential. We employ the HEPfit package to extract viable parameter regions at the electroweak scale and test the stability of the renormalization group evolution up to the multi-TeV region. Furthermore, we set upper limits on the scalar mass splittings. All results are given for both cases with and without a second scalar color singlet.

  Abstract (down) We study the temperature and baryon density dependence of the masses of the lightest charmed baryons Lambda(c), Sigma(c) and Sigma(c)*. We also look at the effects of the temperature and baryon density on the binding energies of the Lambda N-c and Lambda(c)Lambda(c) systems. Baryon masses and baryon-baryon interactions are evaluated within a chiral constituent quark model. Medium effects are incorporated in those parameters of the model related to the dynamical breaking of chiral symmetry, which are the masses of the constituent quarks, the sigma and pi meson masses, and quark-meson couplings. We find that while the in-medium Lambda(c) mass decreases monotonically with temperature, those of Sigma(c) and Sigma(c)* have a nonmonotonic dependence. These features can be understood in terms of a simple group theory analysis regarding the one-gluon exchange interaction in those hadrons. The in-medium Lambda N-c and Lambda(c)Lambda(c) interactions are governed by a delicate balance involving a stronger attraction due to the decrease of the sigma meson mass, suppression of coupled-channel effects and lower thresholds, leading to shallow bound states with binding energies of a few MeV. The Lambda(c) baryon could possibly be bound to a large nucleus, in qualitative agreement with results based on relativistic mean field models or QCD sum rules. Ongoing experiments at RHIC or LHCb or the planned ones at FAIR and J-PARC may take advantage of the present results.

  Abstract (down) We study the tau -> nu(tau). A decay, with A an axialvector meson. We produce the a(1) (1260) and b(1) (1235) resonances in the Cabibbo favored mode and two K-1 (1270) states in the Cabibbo suppressed mode. We take advantage of previous chiral unitary approach results where these resonances appear dynamically from the vector and pseudoscalar meson interaction in s-wave. Actually two different poles were obtained associated to the K-1(1270) quantum numbers. We find that the unmeasured rates for b(1)(1235) production are similar to those of the a(1)(1260) and for the two K-1 states we suggest to separate the present information on the (K) over bar pi pi invariant masses into (K) over bar*pi and rho K modes, the channels to which these two resonances couple most strongly, predicting that thesemodes peak at different energies and have different widths. These measurements should shed light on the existence of these two K-1 states. In addition, we have gone one step further making a comparison with experimental results of three meson decay channels, letting the vector mesons of our approach decay into pseudoscalars, and we find an overall good agreement with experiment.

  Abstract (down) We study the structure of the Lambda(c) (2595) and Lambda(c) (2625) resonances in the framework of an effective field theory consistent with heavy quark spin and chiral symmetries, which incorporates the interplay between Sigma(()(c)*() )pi – ND(*()) baryon-meson degrees of freedom (d.o.f.) and bare P-wave c (u) over bard quark-model states. We show that these two resonances are not heavy quark spin symmetry partners. The J(P) = 3/2(-) Lambda(c) (2625) should be viewed mostly as a dressed three-quark state, whose origin is determined by a bare state, predicted to lie very close to the mass of the resonance. The J(P) = 1/2(-) Lambda(c) (2595) seems to have, however, a predominant molecular structure. This is because it is either the result of the chiral Sigma(c)pi interaction, whose threshold is located much closer than the mass of the bare three-quark state, or because the light d.o.f. in its inner structure are coupled to the unnatural 0(-) quantum numbers. We show that both situations can occur depending on the renormalization procedure used. We find some additional states, but the classification of the spectrum in terms of heavy quark spin symmetry is difficult, despite having used interactions that respect this symmetry. This is because the bare quark-model state and the Sigma(c)pi threshold are located extraordinarily close to the Lambda(c) (2625) and Lambda(c) (2595), respectively, and hence they play totally different roles in each sector.

  Title Structure and stability of traversable thin-shell wormholes in Palatini f(R) gravity Type Journal Article

  Abstract (down) We study the structure and stability of traversable wormholes built as (spherically symmetric) thin shells in the context of Palatini f(R) gravity. Using a suitable junction formalism for these theories we find that the effective number of degrees of freedom on the shell is reduced to a single one, which fixes the equation of state to be that of massless stress-energy fields, contrary to the general relativistic and metric f(R) cases. Another major difference is that the surface energy density threading the thin shell, needed in order to sustain the wormhole, can take any sign and may even vanish, depending on the desired features of the corresponding solutions. We illustrate our results by constructing thin-shell wormholes by surgically grafting Schwarzschild space-times and show that these configurations are always linearly unstable. However, surgically joined Reissner-Nordstrom space-times allow for linearly stable, traversable thin-shell wormholes supported by a positive energy density provided that the (squared) mass-to-charge ratio, given by y = Q(2)/M-2, satisfies the constraint 1 < y < 9/8 (corresponding to overcharged Reissner-Nordstrom configurations having a photon sphere) and lies in a region bounded by specific curves defined in terms of the (dimensionless) radius of the shell x(0) = R/M.

  Abstract (down) We study the sensitivity to physics beyond the standard model of precise top-quark pair production measurements at future lepton colliders. A global effective-field-theory approach is employed, including all ten dimension-six operators of the Warsaw basis which involve a top-quark and give rise to tree-level amplitudes that interfere with standard-model e+e-tt ones in the limit of vanishing b-quark mass. Four-fermion and CP-violating contributions are taken into account. Circular-collider-, ILC- and CLIC-like benchmark run scenarios are examined. We compare the constraining power of various observables to a set of statistically optimal ones which maximally exploit the information contained in the fully differential bW+ distribution. The enhanced sensitivity gained on the linear contributions of dimension-six operators leads to bounds that are insensitive to quadratic ones. Even with statistically optimal observables, two centre-of-mass energies are required for constraining simultaneously two- and four-fermion operators. The impact of the centre-of-mass energy lever arm is discussed, that of beam polarization as well. A realistic estimate of the precision that can be achieved in ILC- and CLIC-like operating scenarios yields individual limits on the electroweak couplings of the top quark that are one to three orders of magnitude better than constraints set with Tevatron and LHC run I data, and three to two hundred times better than the most optimistic projections made for the high-luminosity phase of the LHC. Clean global constraints can moreover be obtained at lepton colliders, robustly covering the multidimensional effective-field-theory space with minimal model dependence.

We look at the reaction from the perspective that these resonaces appear as dynamically generated from the vector-vector interaction in the charm sector, and couple strongly to D*& Unknown;D* and D-s*& Unknown;D-s*. We also look into the B-c(-) -> & Unknown;(l)l(-) D*& Unknown;* and B-c(-) -> & Unknown;(l)l(-) D-s*& Unknown;(s)* reactions close to threshold and relate the D*& Unknown;* and D-s*& Unknown;(s)* mass distribution to the rate of production of the X resonances.

  Title Dissecting the Delta I=1/2 rule at large N-c Type Journal Article

  Abstract (down) We study the scaling of kaon decay amplitudes with the number of colours, N-c, in a theory with four degenerate flavours, N-f = 4. In this scenario, two current-current operators, Q(+/-), mediate Delta S = 1 transitions, such as the two isospin amplitudes of non-leptonic kaon decays for K -> (pi pi)(I=0,2), A(0) and A(2.) In particular, we concentrate on the simpler K -> pi amplitudes, A(+/-), mediated by these two operators. A diagrammatic analysis of the large-N-c scaling of these observables is presented, which demonstrates the anticorrelation of the leading O(1/N-c) and O(N-f/N-c(2)) corrections in both amplitudes. Using our new N-f = 4 and previous quenched data, we confirm this expectation and show that these corrections are naturally large and may be at the origin of the Delta I = 1/2 rule. The evidence for the latter is indirect, based on the matching of the amplitudes to their prediction in Chiral Perturbation Theory, from which the LO low-energy couplings of the chiral weak Hamiltonian, g(+/-), can be determined. A NLO estimate of the K -> (pi pi)(I=0,2) isospin amplitudes can then be derived, which is in good agreement with the experimental value.

  Abstract (down) We study the role of the Schwinger phase (SP) that appears in the propagator of a charged particle in the presence of a static and uniform magnetic field (B) over right arrow. We first note that this phase cannot be removed by a gauge transformation; far from this, we show that it plays an important role in the restoration of the symmetries of the system. Next, we analyze the effect of SPs in the one-loop corrections to charged pion and rho meson self-energies. To carry out this analysis we consider first a simple form for the meson-quark interactions, and then we study the pi(+) and rho(-) propagators within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, performing a numerical analysis of the B dependence of meson lowest energy states. For both pi(+) and rho(-) mesons, we compare the numerical results arising from the full calculation-in which SPs are included in the propagators, and meson wave functions correspond to states of definite Landau quantum number-and those obtained within alternative schemes in which SPs are neglected (or somehow eliminated) and meson states are described by plane waves of definite four-momentum.
