Abstract | A Sigma* resonance with spin-parity J(P) = 1/2(-) and mass in the vicinity of the (K) over barN threshold has been predicted in the unitary chiral approach and inferred from the analysis of CLAS data on the gamma p -> K+pi(0)Sigma(0) reaction. In this work, based on the dominant Cabibbo favored weak decay mechanism, we perform a study of Lambda(+)(c) -> pi(+)pi(0)Sigma* with the possible Sigma* state decaying into pi(-)Sigma(+) through a triangle diagram. This process is initiated by Lambda(+)(c) -> pi(+)(K) over bar *N, then the (K) over bar* decays into (K) over bar pi and (K) over barN produce the Sigma* through a triangle loop containing (K) over bar *N (K) over bar which develops a triangle singularity. We show that the pi(-)Sigma(+) state is generated from final state interaction of (K) over barN in S-wave and isospin I = 1, and the Lambda(+)(c) -> pi(+)pi(0)pi(-)Sigma(+) decay can be used to study the possible Sigma* state around the (K) over barN threshold. The proposed decay mechanism can provide valuable information on the nature of the Sigma* resonance and can in principle be tested by facilities such as LHCb, BelleII and BESIII.

Abstract | A simple Discrete-Time Quantum Walk (DTQW) on the line is revisited and given an hydrodynamic interpretation through a novel relativistic generalization of the Madelung transform. Numerical results show that suitable initial conditions indeed produce hydrodynamical shocks and that the coherence achieved in current experiments is robust enough to simulate quantum hydrodynamical phenomena through DTQWs. An analytical computation of the asymptotic quantum shock structure is presented. The non-relativistic limit is explored in the Supplementary Material (SM).

Abstract | A simultaneous analysis of the B thorn & RARR; K thorn e thorn e- and B0 & RARR; K & DBLBOND;0e thorn e- decays is performed to test muonelectron universality in two ranges of the square of the dilepton invariant mass, q2. The measurement uses a sample of beauty meson decays produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb-1. A sequence of multivariate selections and strict particle identification requirements produce a higher signal purity and a better statistical sensitivity per unit luminosity than previous LHCb lepton universality tests using the same decay modes. Residual backgrounds due to misidentified hadronic decays are studied using data and included in the fit model. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q2 interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Abstract | A simultaneous measurement of the three components of the top-quark and top-antiquark polarisation vectors in t-channel single-top-quark production is presented. This analysis is based on data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1), collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Selected events contain exactly one isolated electron or muon, large missing transverse momentum and exactly two jets, one being b-tagged. Stringent selection requirements are applied to discriminate t-channel single-top-quark events from the background contributions. The top-quark and top-antiquark polarisation vectors are measured from the distributions of the direction cosines of the charged-lepton momentum in the top-quark rest frame. The three components of the polarisation vector for the selected top-quark event sample are P-x' = 0.01 +/- 0.18, P-y' = -0.029 +/- 0.027, P-z' = 0.91 +/- 0.10 and for the top-antiquark event sample they are P-x' = -0.02 +/- 0.20, P-y' = -0.007 +/- 0.051, P-z' = -0.79 +/- 0.16. Normalised differential cross-sections corrected to a fiducial region at the stable-particle level are presented as a function of the charged-lepton angles for top-quark and top-antiquark events inclusively and separately. These measurements are in agreement with Standard Model predictions. The angular differential cross-sections are used to derive bounds on the complex Wilson coefficient of the dimension-six O-tW operator in the framework of an effective field theory. The obtained bounds are C-tW is an element of[-0.9, 1.4] and C-itW is an element of [-0.8, 0.2], both at 95% confidence level.

Abstract | A spaghetti calorimeter (SPACAL) prototype with scintillating crystal fibres was assembled and tested with electron beams of energy from 1 to 5 GeV. The prototype comprised radiation-hard Cerium-doped Gd3Al2Ga3O12 (GAGG:Ce) and Y3Al5O12 (YAG:Ce) embedded in a pure tungsten absorber. The energy resolution root was studied as a function of the incidence angle of the beam and found to be of the order of 10%/ E a 1%, in line with the LHCb Shashlik technology. The time resolution was measured with metal channel dynode photomultipliers placed in contact with the fibres or coupled via a light guide, additionally testing an optical tape to glue the components. Time resolution of a few tens of picosecond was achieved for all the energies reaching down to (18.5 +/- 0.2) ps at 5 GeV.

Abstract | A Standard Model extension with two Majorana neutrinos can explain the measured neutrino masses and mixings, and also account for the matter-antimatter asymmetry in a region of parameter space that could be testable in future experiments. The testability of the model relies to some extent on its minimality. In this paper we address the possibility that the model might be extended by extra generic new physics which we parametrize in terms of a low-energy effective theory. We consider the effects of the operators of the lowest dimensionality, d = 5, and evaluate the upper bounds on the coefficients so that the predictions of the minimal model are robust. One of the operators gives a new production mechanism for the heavy neutrinos at LHC via higgs decays. The higgs can decay to a pair of such neutrinos that, being long-lived, leave a powerful signal of two displaced vertices. We estimate the LHC reach to this process.

Abstract | A strongly interacting dark sector can give rise to a class of signatures dubbed dark showers, where in analogy to the strong sector in the Standard Model, the dark sector undergoes its own showering and hadronization, before decaying into Standard Model final states. When the typical decay lengths of the dark sector mesons are larger than a few centimeters (and no larger than a few meters) they give rise to the striking signature of emerging jets, characterized by a large multiplicity of displaced vertices. In this article we consider the general reinterpretation of the CMS search for emerging jets plus prompt jets into arbitrary new physics scenarios giving rise to emerging jets. More concretely, we consider the cases where the SM Higgs mediates between the dark sector and the SM, for several benchmark decay scenarios. Our procedure is validated employing the same model than the CMS emerging jet search. We find that emerging jets can be the leading probe in regions of parameter space, in particular when considering the so-called gluon portal and dark photon portal decay benchmarks. With the current 16.1 fb-1 of luminosity this search can exclude down to O\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$ \mathcal{O} $$\end{document}(20)% exotic branching ratio of the SM Higgs, but a naive extrapolation to the 139 fb-1 luminosity employed in the current model-independent, indirect bound of 16 % would probe exotic branching ratios into dark quarks down to below 10 %. Further extrapolating these results to the HL-LHC, we find that one can pin down exotic branching ratio values of 1%, which is below the HL-LHC expectations of 2.5-4 %. We make our recasting code publicly available, as part of the LLP Recasting Repository.

Abstract | A structure is observed in the B +/- K -/+ mass spectrum in a sample of proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb-1. The structure is interpreted as the result of overlapping excited Bs0 states. With high significance, a two-peak hypothesis provides a better description of the data than a single resonance. Under this hypothesis the masses and widths of the two states, assuming they decay directly to B +/- K -/+, are determined to be m1 = 6063.5 +/- 1.2 (stat) +/- 0.8 (syst) MeV Gamma 1 = 26 +/- 4 (stat) +/- 4 (syst) MeV m2 = 6114 +/- 3 (stat) +/- 5 (syst) MeV Gamma 2 = 66 +/- 18 (stat) +/- 21 (syst) MeV Alternative values assuming a decay through B +/- K -/+, with a missing photon from the B +/- -> B +/- gamma decay, which are shifted by approximately 45 MeV, are also determined. The possibility of a single state decaying in both channels is also considered. The ratio of the total production cross-section times branching fraction of the new states relative to the previously observed Bs20 state is determined to be 0.87 +/- 0.15 (stat)+/- 0.19 (syst). |

Abstract | A study of A(b)(0) baryon decays to the DpK(-) final state is presented based on a proton-proton collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector. Two A(b)(0) decays are considered, A(b)(0) -> DpK(-) with D -> K-pi(+) and D -> K+pi(-), where D represents a superposition of D-0 and over bar D-0 states. The latter process is expected to be suppressed relative to the former, and is observed for the first time. The ratio of branching fractions of the two decays is measured, and the CP asymmetry of the suppressed mode, which is sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle gamma, is also reported.

Abstract | A study of B+ -> J/psi eta K+ decays, followed by J/psi -> mu(+)mu(-) and eta -> gamma gamma, is performed using a dataset collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). The J/psi eta mass spectrum is investigated for contributions from charmonia and charmonium-like states. Evidence is found for the B+ -> (psi(2)(3823) -> J/psi eta)K+ and B+ -> (psi(4040) -> J/psi eta)K+ decays with significance of 3.4 and 4.7 standard deviations, respectively. This constitutes the first evidence for the psi(2)(3823) -> J/psi eta decay.
