Title Measurement of the lifetime of the B-c(+) cmeson using the B-c(+) -> J/psi pi(+) decay mode Type Journal Article

Abstract (up) The difference in total widths between the B-c(+) and B+ mesons is measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energy proton-proton collisions at the LHC. Through the study of the time evolution of B-c(+) -> J/psi pi(+) and B+ -> J/psi K+ decays, the width difference is measured to be Delta Gamma = Gamma(Bc+) – Gamma(Bc+) = 4.46 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.07 mm(-1) c, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The known lifetime of the B+ meson is used to convert this to a precise measurement of the B-c(+) clifetime, tau(Bc+) = 513.4 +/- 11.0 +/- 5.7 fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract (up) The differential branching fraction of the rare decay Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda mu(+)mu(-) is measured as a function of q(2), the square of the dimuon invariant mass. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment. Evidence of signal is observed in the q(2) region below the square of the J/psi mass. Integrating over 15 < q(2) < 20 GeV2/c(4) the differential branching fraction is measured as dB(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda mu(+)mu(-))/dq(2) = (1.18(-0.08)(+0.09) +/- 0.03 +/- 0.27) x 10(-7) (GeV2/c(4))(-1) where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the normalisation mode Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi Lambda , respectively. In the q(2) intervals where the signal is observed, angular distributions are studied and the forward-backward asymmetries in the dimuon (A(FB)(l)) and hadron (A(FB)(h)) systems are measured for the first time. In the range 15 < q(2) < 20GeV(2)/c(4) they are found to be A(FB)(l) = -0.05 +/- 0.09 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst) and A(FB)(h) = -0.29 +/- 0.07 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst).

Abstract (up) The differential branching fraction with respect to the dimuon invariant mass squared, and the CP asymmetry of the B-+/- -> pi(+/-)mu(+/-)mu(-) decay are measured for the first time. The CKM matrix elements vertical bar V-td vertical bar, and vertical bar V-ts vertical bar, and the ratio vertical bar V-td/V-ts vertical bar are determined. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The total branching fraction and CP asymmetry of B-+/- -> pi(+/-)mu(+/-)mu(-) decays are measured to be B(B-+/- -> pi(+/-)mu(+/-)mu(-)) = (1.83 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.05) x 10(-8) and A(cp)(B-+/- -> pi(+/-)mu(+/-)mu(-)) = -0.11 +/- 0.12 +/- 0.01, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These are the most precise measurements of these observables to date, and they are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Abstract (up) The differential cross-section of prompt inclusive production of long-lived charged particles in proton-proton collisions is measured using a data sample recorded by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV. The data sample, collected with an unbiased trigger, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 nb(-1). The differential cross-section is measured as a function of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity in the ranges P-T is an element of [80, 10 000) MeV/c and eta is an element of [2.0, 4.8) and is determined separately for positively and negatively charged particles. The results are compared with predictions from various hadronic-interaction models.

Abstract (up) The direct CP asymmetries of the decays B-0 -> K-*0 mu(+) mu(-) and B+ -> K+ mu(+) mu(-) are measured using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector. The respective control modes B-0 -> J/psi K+ and B+ -> J/psi K+ are used to account for detection and production asymmetries. The measurements are made in several intervals of mu(+)mu(-) invariant mass squared, with the phi(1020) and charmonium resonance regions excluded. Under the hypothesis of zero CP asymmetry in the control modes, the average values of the asymmetries are A(CP)(B-0 -> K-*0 mu(+) mu(-) and B+ -> K+ mu(+) mu(-)) = -0.035 +/- 0.024 +/- 0.003, A(CP)(B+ -> K+ mu(+) mu(-) = 0.012 +/- 0.017 +/- 0.001, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are due to systematic effects. Both measurements are consistent with the Standard Model prediction of small CP asymmetry in these decays.

The ratio of branching fractions between the decay + c ! p and the singly Cabibbo- suppressed decay + c ! pK is measured to be B (Xi(+)(c) -> p phi) B (Xi(+)(c) -> p phi) = (19 : 8 0 : 7 0 : 9 0 : 2) 10 where the fi rst uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the knowledge of the Xi(+)(c) -> pK(+)pi(+) branching fraction.

The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The Xi(++)(cc) mass is measured to be 3620.6 +/- 1.5(stat) +/- 0.4(syst) +/- 0.3(Xi(+)(c)) MeV/c(2) and is consistent with the previous result. The ratio of branching fractions between the decay modes is measured to be [B(Xi(++)(cc) -> Xi(+)(c)pi(+)) x B(Xi(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+))]/[B(Xi(++)(cc) -> Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+)pi(+)) x B(Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+))] = 0.035 +/- 0.009 (stat) +/- 0.003 (syst).

Abstract (up) The e(+)e(-) -> K+K- cross section and charged-kaon electromagnetic form factor are measured in the e(+)e(-) center-of-mass energy range (E) from 2.6 to 8.0 GeV using the initial-state radiation technique with an undetected photon. The study is performed using 469 fb(-1) of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II2 e(+)e(-) collider at center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. The form factor is found to decrease with energy faster than 1/E-2 and approaches the asymptotic QCD prediction. Production of the K+K- final state through the J/psi and psi(2S) intermediate states is observed. The results for the kaon form factor are used together with data from other experiments to perform a model-independent determination of the relative phases between electromagnetic (single-photon) and strong amplitudes in J/psi and psi(2S). K+K- decays. The values of the branching fractions measured in the reaction e(+)e(-) -> K+K- are shifted relative to their true values due to interference between resonant and nonresonant amplitudes. The values of these shifts are determined to be about +/- 5% for the J/psi meson and +/- 15% for the psi(2S) meson.

Abstract (up) The element vertical bar V-cb vertical bar of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix is measured using semileptonic B-s(0) decays produced in proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). Rates of B-s0 -> D-s(-) mu(+)nu(mu) and B-s0 -> D-s*(-) mu(+)nu(mu) decays are analyzed using hadronic form-factor parametrizations derived either by Caprini, Lellouch and Neubert (CLN) or by Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed (BGL). The measured values of vertical bar V-cb vertical bar are (41.4 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.9 +/- 1.2) x 10(-3) and (42.3 +/- 0.8 +/- 0.9 +/- 1.2) x 10(-3) in the CLN and BGL parametrization, respectively. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the external inputs used in the measurement. These results are in agreement with those obtained from decays of B+ and B-0 mesons. They are the first determinations of vertical bar V-cb vertical bar at a hadron-collider experiment and the first using B-s(0) meson decays.
