  Abstract (up) The first observation of the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- decay is reported, together with the most precise branching fraction measurement of the mode B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- The results are obtained from an analysis of pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1). The data were collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, The branching fraction of the B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- decay is measured relative to that of the decay B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-) to be B(B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-)/B(B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-)) =(69 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.3)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The measured branching fraction of the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- decay mode relative to that of the corresponding B-0 decay is B(B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-)/B(B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-) = (93.0 +/- 809 +/- 6.9)%. Using the known branching fraction of B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-), the values of B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- = (6.1 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.3) x 10(-5) and B(B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- = (5.7 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.5) x 10(-5) are obtained, where the third uncertainties arise from the branching fraction of the decay modes B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-) and B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-, respectively.

  Abstract (up) The first observation of the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0(S)0 decay mode and evidence for the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar*K-0(S)0 decay mode are reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb-1 collected in pp collisions by LHCb at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The branching fractions are measured to be B(B-s(0) -> (D) over bar (0)(K) over bar (0)) = [4.3 +/- 0.5(stat) +/- 0.3 (syst) +/- 0.3(frag) +/- 0.6(norm)] x 10(-4), B(B-s(0) -> (D) over bar*(0)(K) over bar (0)) = [2.8 +/- 1.0(stat) +/- 0.3 (syst) +/- 0.2(frag) +/- 0.4(norm)] x 10(-4), where the uncertainties are due to contributions coming from statistical precision, systematic effects, and the precision of two external inputs, the ratio f(s)/f(d) and the branching fraction of B-0 (D) over bar K-0(S)0, which is used as a calibration channel.

  Abstract (up) The first observation of the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar*(0)phi decay is reported, with a significance of more than seven standard deviations, from an analysis of pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb -1 , collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The branching fraction is measured relative to that of the topologically similar decay B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi(+)pi(-) and is found to be B(B-s(0) -> (D) over bar*(0)phi) = (3.7 +/- 05 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.2) x 10(-5), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of the B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi(+)pi(-) decay. The fraction of longitudinal polarization in this decay is measured to be f(L) = (73 +/- 15 +/- 4)%. The most precise determination of the branching fraction for the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar (0)phi decay is also obtained, B(B-s(0) -> (D) over bar (0)phi) = (3.0 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.2) x 10(-5). An upper limit, B(B-s(0) -> (D) over bar (0)phi) < 2.0 (2.3) x 10(-6) at 90% (95%) confidence level is set. A constraint on the omega – phi mixing angle delta is set at vertical bar delta vertical bar < 5.2 degrees (5.5 degrees) at 90% (95%) confidence level.

  Title Observation of the B0s → D*+ D*- decay Type Journal Article
  Year 2023 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 07 Issue 7 Pages 119 - 19pp
  Keywords Branching fraction; Hadron-Hadron Scattering
  Abstract (up) The first observation of the B-s(0) -> D*+ D*- decay and the measurement of its branching ratio relative to the B-0 -> D*+ D*(-) decay are presented. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions recorded by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV between 2011 and 2018. The decay is observed with more than 10 standard deviations and the time-integrated ratio of branching fractions is determined to be [GRAPHICS] . where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the uncertainty of the fragmentation fraction ratio f(s)/f(d). The B-s(0) -> D*(+) D*(-) branching fraction is calculated to be [GRAPHICS] . where the fourth uncertainty is due to the B-0 -> D*(+) D*(-) branching fraction. These results are calculated using the average B-s(0) meson lifetime in simulation. Correction factors are reported for scenarios where either a purely heavy or a purely light B-s(0) eigenstate is considered.

  Abstract (up) The first observation of the B-s(0) -> D-s*(-/+) K-+/- decay is reported using 3.0 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment. The D-s*(-/+) mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain D-s*(-/+) -> gamma D-s(-/+) ((KK +/-)-K--/+pi(-/+)). The branching fraction relative to that for B-s(0) -> D-s*(-)pi(+) decays is measured to be B (B-s(0) -> D-s*K--/+(+/-))/B(B-s(0) -> D-s*(-)pi(+)) = 0.068 +/- 0.005(-0.002)(+0.003), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using a recent measurement of B(B-s(0) -> D-s*(-)pi(+)), the absolute branching fraction of B-s(0) -> Ds*K--/+(+/-) is measured as B(B-s(0) -> D*K--/+(+/-)) = (16.3 +/- 1.2(stat)(-0.5)(+0.7)(syst) +/- 4.8(norm)) x 10(-5), where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the normalisation channel.

  Abstract (up) The first observation of the B-s(0) -> eta'eta' decay is reported. The study is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector. The significance of the signal is 6.4 standard deviations. The branching fraction is measured to be [3.31 +/- 0.64(stat) +/- 0.28(syst) +/- 0.12(norm)] x 10(-5), where the third uncertainty comes from the B-+/- -> eta'K-+/- branching fraction that is used as a normalization. In addition, the charge asymmetries of B-+/- -> eta'K-+/- and B-+/- -> phi K-+/-, which are control channels, are measured to be (-0.2 +/- 1.3)% and (+1.7 +/- 1.3)%, respectively. All results are consistent with theoretical expectations.

  Keywords B physics; CP violation; Branching fraction; Flavor physics; Hadron-Hadron Scattering
  Abstract (up) The first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay Lambda(0)(b) -> J / psi p pi(-) is reported using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). A prominent signal is observed and the branching fraction relative to the decay mode Lambda(0)(b) -> J / psi pK(-) is determined to be B(Lambda(0)(b) -> J / psi p pi(-))/ B(Lambda(0)(b) -> J / psi pK(-)) = 0.0824 +/- 0.0025 (stat) +/- 0.0042 (syst). A search for direct CP violation is performed. The difference in the CP asymmetries between these two decays is found to be ACP(Lambda(0)(b) -> J / psi p pi(-))/ A(CP)(Lambda(0)(b) -> J / psi pK(-)) = (+5.7 +/- 2.4 (stat) +/- 1.2 (syst))%, which is compatible with CP symmetry at the 2.2 sigma level.

  Abstract (up) The first observation of the D-0 -> pi(+) pi(-) mu(+) mu(-) and D-0 -> K+ K- mu(+) mu(-) decays is reported using a sample of proton-proton collisions collected by LHCb at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, and corresponding to 2 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The corresponding branching fractions are measured using as normalization the decay D-0 -> K- pi(+) [mu(+) mu(-)](rho 0/omega), where the two muons are consistent with coming from the decay of a rho(0) or omega meson. The results are B(D-0 -> pi(+) pi(-) mu(+) mu(-)) = (9.64 +/- 0.48 +/- 0.51 +/- 0.97) x 10(-7) and B(D-0 -> K+ K- mu(+) mu(-)) = (1.54 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.16) x 10(-7), where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited knowledge of the normalization branching fraction. The dependence of the branching fraction on the dimuon mass is also investigated.

  Abstract (up) The first observation of the decay B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(-) is reported using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011, 2012 and 2016. The measurement is performed in the full kinematically allowed range of the decay outside of the D*(-) region. The ratio of the branching fraction relative to that of the control channel B-0 -> D-0<(DK+)-K-0 pi(-)+ is measured to be R = (14.2 +/- 1.1 +/- 1.0)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The absolute branching fraction of B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(- )decays is thus determined to be B(B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(-)) = (3.50 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.30) x 10(-4), where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the control channel. This decay mode is expected to provide insights to spectroscopy and the charm-loop contributions in rare semileptonic decays.
