Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We study the particle creation process in the Schwinger model coupled with an external classical source. One can approach the problem by taking advantage of the fact that the full quantized model is solvable and equivalent to a (massive) gauge field with a non-local effective action. Alternatively, one can also face the problem by following the standard semiclassical route. This means quantizing the massless Dirac field and considering the electromagnetic field as a classical background. We evaluate the energy created by a generic, homogeneous, and time-dependent source. The results match exactly in both approaches. This proves in a very direct and economical way the validity of the semiclassical approach for the (massless) Schwinger model, in agreement with a previous analysis based on the linear response equation. Our discussion suggests that a similar analysis for the massive Schwinger model could be used as a non-trivial laboratory to confront a fully quantized solvable model with its semiclassical approximation, therefore mimicking the long-standing confrontation of quantum gravity with quantum field theory in curved spacetime. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We study the phenomenology of a particular leptoquark extension of the Standard Model (SM), namely the doublet-singlet scalar leptoquark extension of the SM (DSL-SM). Besides generating Majorana mass for neutrinos, these leptoquarks contribute to muon and electron (g – 2) and various lepton flavor violating processes. Collider signatures of the benchmark points (BPs), consistent with the neutrino oscillation data, anomalous muon/electron magnetic moments, experimental bounds on the charged lepton flavor violation observables, etc., are studied at the LHC/FCC with center-of-mass energies of 14, 27 and 100 TeV. While the two -1=3 charged colored scalars from the singlet and the doublet leptoquark mix with each other, the charge 2=3 colored scalar from the doublet leptoquark remains pure. With a near-degenerate mass spectrum, the pure and mixed leptoquark states are shown to be distinguishable from multiple final states, while discerning between the two mixed states remains very challenging. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We study the relic abundance of several stable particles from a generic dark sector, including the possible presence of dark asymmetries. After discussing the different possibilities for stabilising multi-component dark matter, we analyse the final relic abundance of the symmetric and asymmetric dark matter components, paying special attention to the role of the unavoidable conversions between dark matter states. We find an exponential dependence of the asymmetries of the heavier components on annihilations and conversions. We conclude that having similar symmetric and asymmetric components is a natural outcome in many scenarios of multi-component dark matter. This has novel phenomenological implications, which we briefly discuss. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We summarise the discussions at a virtual Community Workshop on Cold Atoms in Space concerning the status of cold atom technologies, the prospective scientific and societal opportunities offered by their deployment in space, and the developments needed before cold atoms could be operated in space. The cold atom technologies discussed include atomic clocks, quantum gravimeters and accelerometers, and atom interferometers. Prospective applications include metrology, geodesy and measurement of terrestrial mass change due to, e.g., climate change, and fundamental science experiments such as tests of the equivalence principle, searches for dark matter, measurements of gravitational waves and tests of quantum mechanics. We review the current status of cold atom technologies and outline the requirements for their space qualification, including the development paths and the corresponding technical milestones, and identifying possible pathfinder missions to pave the way for missions to exploit the full potential of cold atoms in space. Finally, we present a first draft of a possible road-map for achieving these goals, that we propose for discussion by the interested cold atom, Earth Observation, fundamental physics and other prospective scientific user communities, together with the European Space Agency (ESA) and national space and research funding agencies. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We use a O(alpha(s). Lambda(QCD)/m(c)) heavy quark effective theory scheme, where only O(Lambda(QCD)/mb) corrections are neglected, to study the matrix elements of the scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, axial-vector and tensor currents between the Lambda(b) ground state and the odd parity charm Lambda(c)(2595)(+) and Lambda(c)(2625)(+) resonances. We show that in the near-zero recoil regime, the scheme describes reasonably well, taking into account uncertainties, the results for the 24 form factors obtained in lattice QCD (LQCD) just in terms of only four Isgur-Wise (IW) functions. We also find some support for the possibility that the Lambda(c)(2595)(+) and Lambda(c)(2625)(+) resonances might form a heavy quark spin symmetry (HQSS) doublet. However, we argue that the available LQCD description of these two resonances is not accurate enough to disentangle the possible effects of the Sigma(c)pi and Sigma(c)*pi thresholds, located only a few MeV above their position, and that it cannot be ruled out that these states are not HQSS partners. Finally, we study the ratio d Gamma/[Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c,1/2)-*l (v) over bar (l)]/dq(2)/d Gamma/[Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c,3/2)-*l (v) over bar (l)]/dq(2) of the Standard Model differential semileptonic decay widths, with q the four-momentum transferred between the initial and final hadrons. We provide a natural explanation for the existence of large deviations, near the zero recoil, of this ratio from 1=2 (value predicted in the infinite heavy quark mass limit, assuming that the Lambda(c,1/2)- and Lambda(c,3/2)- are the two members of a HQSS doublet) based on S-wave contributions to the Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c,1/2)- decay amplitude driven by a subleading IW function. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We use the Fitmaker tool to incorporate the recent CDF measurement of mW in a global fit to electroweak, Higgs, and diboson data in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) including dimension-6 operators at linear order. We find that including any one of the SMEFT operators O-HWB, O-HD, O (l) (l) or O ((3)) (H l) with a non-zero coefficient could provide a better fit than the Standard Model, with the strongest pull for O-HD and no tension with other electroweak precision data. We then analyse which tree-level single-field extensions of the Standard Model could generate such operator coefficients with the appropriate sign, and discuss the masses and couplings of these fields that best fit the CDF measurement and other data. In particular, the global fit favours either a singlet Z 0 vector boson, a scalar electroweak triplet with zero hypercharge, or a vector electroweak triplet with unit hypercharge, followed by a singlet heavy neutral lepton, all with masses in the multi-TeV range for unit coupling. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
While primordial black holes (PBHs) with masses MPBH greater than or similar to 10-11 Mo cannot comprise the entirety of dark matter, the existence of even a small population of these objects can have profound astrophysical consequences. A subdominant population of PBHs will efficiently accrete dark matter particles before matter-radiation equality, giving rise to high-density dark matter spikes. We consider here the scenario in which dark matter is comprised primarily of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with a small subdominant contribution coming from PBHs, and revisit the constraints on the annihilation of WIMPs in these spikes using observations of the isotropic gamma-ray background (IGRB) and the cosmic microwave background (CMB), for a range of WIMP masses, annihilation channels, cross sections, and PBH mass functions. We find that the constraints derived using the IGRB have been significantly overestimated (in some cases by many orders of magnitude), and that limits obtained using observations of the CMB are typically stronger than, or comparable to, those coming from the IGRB. Importantly, we show that similar to OoMo thorn PBHs can still contribute significantly to the dark matter density for sufficiently low WIMP masses and p-wave annihilation cross sections. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
While the hunt for new states beyond the standardmodel (SM) goes on for various well motivated theories, the leptoquarks are among the most appealing scenarios at recent times due to a series of tensions observed in B-meson decays. We consider SU(2) singlet and triplet scalar leptoquarks separately, which contribute to charged and neutral current B-meson decays. Focusing on the single production of these two scalar leptoquarks, we perform a PYTHIA-based simulation considering all the dominant SM backgrounds at the current and future setups of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The mono-b-jet + p(T) finalstate gives the strongest signal for the singlet leptoquark at the 30 TeV LHC or Future Circular Collider (FCC), with a possibility of 5 sigma signal significance with greater than or similar to 1000 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, for the chosen benchmark scenarios. The finalstate consisting of a c-jet and two tau-jets provides highest reach for the singlet leptoquark, probing an O(10(-1)) value of the Yukawa-type couplings for up to 3.0 TeV leptoquark mass. For the triplet leptoquark, 1 – jet + 2 μ+ p(T) topology is the most optimistic signature at the LHC, probing leptoquark couplings to fermions at O(10(-1)) value for the leptoquark mass range up to 4.0 TeV. The invariant mass edge distribution is found to be instrumental in determination of the leptoquarkmass scale at the LHC. We also perform the analysis at the proposed multiTeV muon collider, where an O(10(-1)) leptoquark Yukawa coupling can be probed for a 5.0 TeV leptoquark mass. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
With the increasing interest in dark matter axion detection through haloscopes, in which different international groups are currently involved, the RADES group was established in 2016 with the goal of developing very sensitive detection systems to be operated in dipole magnets. This review deals with the work developed by this collaboration during its first five years: from the first designs-based on the multi-cavity concept, aiming to increase the haloscope volume, and thereby improve sensitivity-to their evolution, data acquisition design, and finally, the first experimental run. Moreover, the envisaged work within RADES for both dipole and solenoid magnets in the short and medium term is also presented. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
With very few exceptions, the large amount of available experimental bounds on heavy neutral leptons – HNL – have been derived relying on the assumption of the existence of a single (usually Majorana) sterile fermion state that mixes with only one lepton flavour. However, most of the extensions of the Standard Model involving sterile fermions predict the existence of several HNLs, with complex mixing patterns to all flavours. Consequently, most of the experimental bounds for HNLs need to be recast before being applied to a generic scenario. In this work, we focus on LHC searches of heavy neutral leptons and discuss how to reinterpret the available bounds when it comes to consider mixings to all active flavours, not only in the case with a single HNL, but also in the case when more heavy neutral leptons are involved. In the latter case, we also consider the possibility of interference effects and show how the bounds on the parameter space should be recast. |
