Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We investigate the dynamics of a family of functional extensions of the (Eddington-inspired) Born-Infeld gravity theory, constructed with the inverse of the metric and the Ricci tensor. We provide a generic formal solution for the connection and an Einstein-like representation for the metric field equations of this family of theories. For particular cases we consider applications to the early-time cosmology and find that nonsingular universes with a cosmic bounce are very generic and robust solutions. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We investigate the time evolution of the chirality reduced density matrix for a discrete-time quantum walk on a one-dimensional lattice. The matrix is obtained by tracing out the spatial degree of freedom. We analyze the standard case, without decoherence, and the situation in which decoherence appears in the form of broken links in the lattice. By examining the trace distance for possible pairs of initial states as a function of time, we conclude that the evolution of the reduced density matrix is non-Markovian, in the sense defined by Breuer, Laine, and Piilo [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 210401 (2009)]. As the level of noise increases, the dynamics approaches a Markovian process. The highest non-Markovianity corresponds to the case without decoherence. The reduced density matrix tends always to a well-defined limit that we calculate, but only in the decoherence-free case is this limit nontrivial. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We make predictions for the ratios of branching fractions of (B) over bar (0) and (B) over bar (0)(s) decays into J/psi and the scalar mesons f(0)(1370), f(0)(1710) or tensor mesons f(2)(1270), f(2)'(1525), K-2*(1430). The theoretical approach is based on results of chiral unitary theory where these resonances are shown to be generated from the vector meson-vector meson interaction. Eight independent ratios can be predicted, and comparison is made with the recent data on (B) over bar (0)(s) decay into J/psi f(2)'(1525) versus the (B) over bar (0)(s) decay into J/psi f(2)(1270). |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We measure the direct CP violation asymmetry, A(CP), in B -> X-s gamma and the isospin difference of the asymmetry, Delta A(CP), using 429 fb(-1) of data collected at Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP- II asymmetric- energy e(+)e(-) storage rings operating at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. B mesons are reconstructed from ten charged B final states and six neutral B final states. We find A(CP) = +(1.7 +/- 1.9 +/- 1.0)%, which is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and provides an improvement on the world average. Moreover, we report the first measurement of the difference between A(CP) for charged and neutral decay modes, Delta A(CP) = +(5.0 +/- 3.9 +/- 1.5)%. Using the value of Delta A(CP), we also provide 68% and 90% confidence intervals on the imaginary part of the ratio of theWilson coefficients corresponding to the chromomagnetic dipole and the electromagnetic dipole transitions. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We measure the total branching fraction of the flavor-changing neutral-current process B -> X(s)l(+)l(-), along with partial branching fractions in bins of dilepton and hadronic system (X-s) mass, using a sample of 471 x 10(6)Upsilon(4S) -> B (B) over bar events recorded with the BABAR detector. The admixture of charged and neutral B mesons produced at PEP-II2 are reconstructed by combining a dilepton pair with 10 different X-s final states. Extrapolating from a sum over these exclusive modes, we measure a lepton-flavor-averaged inclusive branching fraction B(B -> X(s)l(+)l(-)) = [6.73(-0.64)(+0.70)(stat)(-0.25)(+0.34)(exp syst) +/- 0.50(model syst)] x 10(-6) for m(l+l-)(2) > 0.1 GeV2/c(4). Restricting our analysis exclusively to final states from which a decaying B meson's flavor can be inferred, we additionally report measurements of the direct CP asymmetry A(CP) in bins of dilepton mass; over the full dilepton mass range, we find A(CP) = 0.04 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.01 for a leptonflavor-averaged sample. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We perform a combined analysis of the recent AMS-02 data on electrons, positrons, electrons plus positrons and positron fraction, in a self-consistent framework where we realize a theoretical modeling of all the astrophysical components that can contribute to the observed fluxes in the whole energy range. The primary electron contribution is modeled through the sum of an average flux from distant sources and the fluxes from the local supernova remnants in the Green catalog. The secondary electron and positron fluxes originate from interactions on the interstellar medium of primary cosmic rays, for which we derive a novel determination by using AMS-02 proton and helium data. Primary positrons and electrons from pulsar wind nebulae in the ATNF catalog are included and studied in terms of their most significant (while loosely known) properties and under different assumptions (average contribution from the whole catalog, single dominant pulsar, a few dominant pulsars). We obtain a remarkable agreement between our various modeling and the AMS-02 data for all types of analysis, demonstrating that the whole AMS-02 leptonic data admit a self-consistent interpretation in terms of astrophysical contributions. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We point out that in certain four-dimensional extensions of general relativity constructed within the Palatini formalism stable self-gravitating objects with a discrete mass and charge spectrum may exist. The incorporation of nonlinearities in the electromagnetic field may effectively reduce their mass spectrum by many orders of magnitude. As a consequence, these objects could be within (or near) the reach of current particle accelerators. We provide an exactly solvable model to support this idea. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We point out that the duality symmetry of free electromagnetism does not hold in the quantum theory if an arbitrary classical gravitational background is present. The symmetry breaks in the process of renormalization, as also happens with conformal invariance. We show that a similar duality anomaly appears for a massless scalar field in 1 + 1 dimensions. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We present a Bayesian analysis of the NUGHM, a supersymmetric scenario with non-universal gaugino masses and Higgs masses, including all the relevant experimental observables and dark matter constraints. The main merit of the NUGHM is that it essentially includes all the possibilities for dark matter (DM) candidates within the MSSM, since the neutralino and chargino spectrum -and composition- are as free as they can be in the general MSSM. We identify the most probable regions in the NUHGM parameter space, and study the associated phenomenology at the LHC and the prospects for DM direct detection. Requiring that the neutralino makes all of the DM in the Universe, we identify two preferred regions around m(chi 10) = 1 TeV, 3 TeV, which correspond to the (almost) pure Higgsino and wino case. There exist other marginal regions (e.g. Higgs-funnel), but with much less statistical weight. The prospects for detection at the LHC in this case are quite pessimistic, but future direct detection experiments like LUX and XENON1T, will be able to probe this scenario. In contrast, when allowing other DM components, the prospects for detection at the LHC become more encouraging – the most promising signals being, beside the production of gluinos and squarks, the production of the heavier chargino and neutralino states, which lead to WZ and same-sign WW final states – and direct detection remains a complementary, and even more powerful, way to probe the scenario. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, ascending order (up)](img/sort_asc.gif) |
We present a calculation of next-to-leading order QCD corrections to QCD-induced ZZ production in association with two jets at hadron colliders. Both Z bosons decay leptonically with all off-shell effects, virtual photon contributions and spin-correlation effects fully taken into account. This process is an important background to weak boson scattering and to searches for signals of new physics beyond the Standard Model. As expected, the next-to-leading order corrections reduce significantly the scale uncertainty and show a non-trivial phase space dependence in kinematic distributions. Our code will be publicly available as part of the parton level Monte Carlo program VBFNLO. |
