Title U(1)(B3-3L2) gauge symmetry as a simple description of b -> s anomalies Type Journal Article

Abstract (down) We present a simple U(1)(B3-3L2) gauge standard model extension that can easily account for the anomalies in R(K) and R(K*) reported by LHCb. The model is economical in its setup and particle content. Among the standard model fermions, only the third generation quark family and the second generation leptons transform nontrivially under the new U(1)(B3-3L2) symmetry. This leads to lepton nonuniversality and flavor changing neutral currents involving the second and third quark families. We discuss the relevant experimental constraints and some implications.

Title Gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking via seesaw mechanisms Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 81 Issue 9 Pages 095013 - 12pp

Abstract (down) We present a simple scenario for gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) where the messengers are also the fields that generate neutrino masses. We show that the simplest such scenario corresponds to the case where neutrino masses are generated through the type I and type III seesaw mechanisms. The entire supersymmetric spectrum and Higgs masses are calculable from only four input parameters. Since the electroweak symmetry is broken through a doubly radiative mechanism, meaning a nearly zero B term at the messenger scale which runs down to acceptable values, one obtains quite a constrained spectrum for the supersymmetric particles whose properties we describe. We refer to this mechanism as "nu GMSB.''

Title Search for the rare decay B -> Kv(v)over-bar Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 82 Issue 11 Pages 112002 - 10pp
Keywords
Abstract (down) We present a search for the rare decays B+ -> K+ v (v) over bar and B-0 -> K-0 v (v) over bar using 459 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Flavor-changing neutral-current decays such as these are forbidden at tree level but can occur through one-loop diagrams in the standard model (SM), with possible contributions from new physics at the same order. The presence of two neutrinos in the final state makes identification of signal events challenging, so reconstruction in the semileptonic decay channels B -> D-(*) lv of the B meson recoiling from the signal B is used to suppress backgrounds. We set an upper limit at the 90% confidence level (CL) of 1.3 x 10(-5) on the total branching fraction for B+ -> K+ v (v) over bar, and 5.6 x 10(-5) for B-0 -> K-0 v (v) over bar. We additionally report 90% CL upper limits on partial branching fractions in two ranges of dineutrino mass squared for B+ -> K+ v (v) over bar.

Title Search for the supersymmetric partner of the top quark in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 82 Issue 9 Pages 092001 - 16pp
Keywords
Abstract (down) We present a search for the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 1: 96 TeV. This search was conducted within the framework of the R parity conserving minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, assuming the stop decays dominantly to a lepton, a sneutrino, and a bottom quark. We searched for events with two oppositely-charged leptons, at least one jet, and missing transverse energy in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb(-1) collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab experiment. No significant evidence of a stop quark signal was found. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level in the stop quark versus sneutrino mass plane are set. Stop quark masses up to 180 GeV/c(2) are excluded for sneutrino masses around 45 GeV/c(2), and sneutrino masses up to 116 GeV/c(2) are excluded for stop quark masses around 150 GeV/c(2).

Title Search for the decay modes B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 86 Issue 1 Pages 012004 - 14pp
Keywords
Abstract (down) We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decay modes B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l (h = K, pi; l = e, mu) using the BABAR data sample, which corresponds to 472 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs. The search uses events where one B meson is fully reconstructed in one of several hadronic final states. Using the momenta of the reconstructed B, h, and l candidates, we are able to fully determine the tau four-momentum. The resulting tau candidate mass is our main discriminant against combinatorial background. We see no evidence for B-+/- -> h(+/-)tau l decays and set a 90% confidence level upper limit on each branching fraction at the level of a few times 10(-5).

Title Evidence of B+ -> tau(+)nu decays with hadronic B tags Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 88 Issue 3 Pages 031102 - 9pp
Keywords
Abstract (down) We present a search for the decay B+ -> tau(+)nu using 467.8 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. We select a sample of events with one completely reconstructed B- in the hadronic decay mode (B- -> D-(*X-)0(-) and B- -> J/psi X-). We examine the rest of the event to search for a B+ -> tau(+)nu decay. We identify the tau(+) lepton in the following modes: tau(+) -> e(+)nu(nu) over bar, tau(+) -> mu(+)nu(nu) over bar, tau(+) -> pi(+)(nu) over bar and tau(+) -> rho(+)(nu) over bar. We find an excess of events with respect to the expected background, which excludes the null signal hypothesis at the level of 3.8 sigma (including systematic uncertainties) and corresponds to a branching fraction value of B(B+ -> tau(+)nu) = (1.83(-0.49)(+0.53)(stat) +/- 0.24(syst)) x 10(-4).

Abstract (down) We present a search for the decay B+ -> l(+)nu(l) (l = tau, mu, or e) in (458.9 +/- 5.1) x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory. We search for these B decays in a sample of B+B- events where one B- meson is reconstructed as B- -> D(0)l(-)(nu) over barX. Using the method of Feldman and Cousins, we obtain B(B+ -> tau(+)nu(tau)) = (1.7 +/- 0.8 +/- 0.2) x 10(-4), which excludes zero at 2.3 sigma. We interpret the central value in the context of the standard model and find the B meson decay constant to be f(B)(2) = (62 +/- 31) x 10(3) MeV2. We find no evidence for B+ -> e(+)nu(e) and B+ -> mu(+)nu(mu) and set upper limits at the 90% C. L. B(B+ -> e(+)nu(e)) < 0.8 x 10(-5) and B(B+ -> mu(+)nu(mu)) < 1.1 x 10(-5).

Abstract (down) We present a search for the decay B+ -> a(1)(+)(1260)K*(0)(892). The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, represent 465 X 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs produced in e(+)e(-) annihilation at the energy of the gamma(4S). We find no significant signal and set an upper limit at 90% confidence level on the product of branching fractions B(B+ -> a(1)(+) (1260)K*(0)(892)) X B(a(1)(+)(1260) -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(+)) of 1.8 X 10(-6).

Title Search for lepton-flavor-violating decays D-0 -> X(0)e(+/-)mu(-/+) Type Journal Article
Year 2020 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 101 Issue 11 Pages 112003 - 11pp
Keywords
Abstract (down) We present a search for seven lepton-flavor-violating neutral charm meson decays of the type D-0 -> X(0)e(+/-)mu(-/+), where X-0 represents a pi(0), K-S(0), (K) over bar*(0), rho(0), phi, omega, or eta meson. The analysis is based on 468 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data collected at or close to the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signals are observed, and we establish 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (5.0-22.5) x 10(-7). The limits are between 1 and 2 orders of magnitude more stringent than previous measurements.
