Abstract: We analyze the problem of resolving two mutually coherent point sources with arbitrary quantum statistics, mutual phase, and relative and absolute intensity. We use a sensitivity measure based on the method of moments and compare direct imaging with spatial-mode demultiplexing (SPADE), analytically proving advantage of the latter. We show that the moment-based sensitivity of SPADE saturates the quantum Fisher information for all known cases, even for non-Gaussian states of the sources.

Abstract: We argue that the appearance of additional light rings in a shadow observation – beyond the infinite sequence of exponentially demagnified self-similar rings foreseen in the Kerr solution – would make a compelling case for the existence of black hole mimickers having multiple critical curves. We support this claim by discussing three different scenarios of spherically symmetric wormhole geometries having two such critical curves, and explicitly work out the optical appearance of one such object when surrounded by an optically and geometrically thin accretion disk.

Abstract: We benefit from a recent lattice determination of the full set of vector, axial and tensor form factors for the Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c)* (2595)tau(nu) over bar (tau) and Lambda(c) (2625)tau(nu) over bar (tau) semileptonic decays to study the possible role of these two reactions in lepton flavor universality violation studies. Using an effective theory approach, we analyze different observables that can be accessed through the visible kinematics of the charged particles produced in the tau decay, for which we consider the pi(-)nu(tau), rho(-) nu(tau) and mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu)nu(tau) channels. We compare the results obtained in the Standard Model and other schemes containing new physics (NP) interactions, with either left-handed or right-handed neutrino operators. We find a discriminating power between models similar to the one of the Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c) decay, although somewhat hindered in this case by the larger errors of the Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c)* lattice form factors. Notwithstanding this, the analysis of these reactions is already able to discriminate between some of the NP scenarios and its potentiality will certainly improve when more precise form factors are available.

Abstract: We build an infinite class of exact axisymmetric solutions of a metric-affine gravity theory, namely, Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity, coupled to an anisotropic fluid as a matter source. The solution-generating method employed is not unique of this theory but can be extended to other Ricci-Based Gravity theories (RBGs), a class of theories built out of contractions of the Ricci tensor with the metric. This method exploits a correspondence between the space of solutions of General Relativity and that of RBGs, and is independent of the symmetries of the problem. For the particular case in which the fluid is identified with non-linear electromagnetic fields we explicitly derive the corresponding axisymmetric solutions. Finally, we use this result to work out the counterpart of the Kerr-Newman black hole when Maxwell electrodynamics is set on the metric-affine side. Our results open up an exciting new avenue for testing new gravitational phenomenology in the fields of gravitational waves and shadows out of rotating black holes.

Abstract: We consider a type I or type X two Higgs doublets model with a modified lepton sector. The generalized lepton sector is also flavor conserving but with the new Yukawa couplings completely decoupled from lepton mass proportionality. The model is one loop stable under renormalization group evolution and it allows to reproduce the g – 2 muon anomaly together with the different scenarios one can consider for the electron g – 2 anomaly, related to the Cesium and/or to the Rubidium recoilmeasurements of the fine structure constant. Thorough parameter space analyses are performed to constrain all the model parameters in the different scenarios, either including or not including the recent CDF measurement of the W boson mass. For light new scalars with masses in the 0.2-1.0 TeV range, the muon anomaly receives dominant one loop contributions; it is for heavy new scalars with masses above 1.2 TeV that two loop Barr-Zee diagrams are needed. The electron g-2 anomaly, if any, must always be obtained with the two loop contributions. The final allowed regions are quite sensitive to the assumptions about perturbativity of Yukawa couplings, which influence unexpected observables like the allowed scalar mass ranges. On that respect, intermediate scalar masses, highly constrained by direct LHC searches, are allowed provided that the new lepton Yukawa couplings are fully scrutinized, including values up to 250 GeV. In the framework of a complete model, fully numerically analysed, we show the implications of the recent M-W measurement.

Abstract: We consider a type-I seesaw framework endowed with a flavour symmetry, belonging to the series of non-abelian groups increment (3 n(2)) and increment (6 n(2)), and a CP symmetry. Breaking these symmetries in a non-trivial way results in the right-handed neutrinos being degenerate in mass up to possible (further symmetry-breaking) splittings kappa and lambda, while the neutrino Yukawa coupling matrix encodes the entire flavour structure in the neutrino sector. For a fixed combination of flavour and CP symmetry and residual groups, this matrix contains five real free parameters. Four of them are determined by the light neutrino mass spectrum and by accommodating experimental data on lepton mixing well, while the angle theta(R) is related to right-handed neutrinos. We scrutinise for all four lepton mixing patterns, grouped into Case 1) through Case 3 b.1), the potential to generate the baryon asymmetry of the Universe through low-scale leptogenesis numerically and analytically. The main results are: a) the possible correlation of the baryon asymmetry and the Majorana phases, encoded in the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata mixing matrix, in certain instances; b) the possibility to generate the correct amount of baryon asymmetry for vanishing splittings kappa and lambda among the right-handed neutrinos as well as for large kappa, depending on the case and the specific choice of group theory parameters; c) the chance to produce sufficient baryon asymmetry for large active-sterile mixing angles, enabling direct experimental tests at current and future facilities, if theta(R) is close to a special value, potentially protected by an enhanced residual symmetry. We elucidate these results with representative examples of flavour and CP symmetries, which all lead to a good agreement with the measured values of the lepton mixing angles and, possibly, the current indication of the CP phase delta. We identify the CP-violating combinations relevant for low-scale leptogenesis, and show that the parametric dependence of the baryon asymmetry found in the numerical study can be understood well with their help.

Abstract: We consider an inverse seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass generation in which the Standard Model is extended by 3 + 3 (heavy) sterile states, and endowed with a flavour symmetry G(f), G(f) = Delta(3n(2)) or G(f) = Delta(6n(2)), and a CP symmetry. These symmetries are broken in a peculiar way, so that in the charged lepton sector a residual symmetry G(l) is preserved, while the neutral fermion sector remains invariant under the residual symmetry G(nu) = Z(2) x CP. We study the concrete setup, where the Majorana mass term for three of the sterile states conserves G(nu), while the remaining mass terms (i.e. couplings of left-handed leptons and heavy sterile states, as well as the Dirac-type couplings among the latter) do not break the flavour or CP symmetry. We perform a comprehensive analysis of lepton mixing for different classes of residual symmetries, giving examples for each of these, and study in detail the impact of the additional sterile states on the predictions for lepton mixing. We further confront our results with those obtained in the model-independent scenario, in which the light neutrino mass matrix leaves the residual symmetry G(nu) intact. We consider the phenomenological impact of the inverse seesaw mechanism endowed with flavour and CP symmetries, in particular concerning effects of non-unitarity of the lepton mixing matrix (which strongly constrain the parameter space of the scenario), prospects for neutrinoless double beta decay and for charged lepton flavour violating processes.

Abstract: We consider higher-order QCD corrections to the production of high-mass systems in hadron collisions within the transverse-momentum (q(T)) subtraction formalism. We present amethod to consistently remove the linear power corrections in q(T) which appears when fiducial kinematical cuts are applied on the final state system. We consider explicitly the case of fiducial cross sections for Drell-Yan lepton pair production at the Large Hadron Collider up to next-to-nextto-next-to-leading order (N3LO) in QCD. We have implemented our method within the DYTurbo numerical program and we have obtained perturbative predictions which are in agreement at the permille level with those obtained with local subtraction formalisms up to the next-to-next-toleading order (NNLO). At the N3LO we are able to provide predictions for fiducial cross sections with numerical accuracy at the permille level.

Abstract: We consider the metric-affine formulation of bumblebee gravity, derive the field equations, and show that the connection can be written as Levi-Civita of a disformally related metric in which the bumblebee field determines the disformal part. As a consequence, the bumblebee field gets coupled to all the other matter fields present in the theory, potentially leading to nontrivial phenomenological effects. To explore this issue we compute the weak-field limit and study the resulting effective theory. In this scenario, we couple scalar and spinorial matter to the effective metric which, besides the zeroth-order Minkowskian contribution, also has the vector field contributions of the bumblebee, and show that it is renormalizable at one-loop level. From our analysis it also follows that the non-metricity of this theory is determined by the gradient of the bumblebee field, and that it can acquire a vacuum expectation value due to the contribution of the bumblebee field.

Abstract: We consider the phenomenological signatures of Simplified Models of Flavourful Leptoquarks, whose Beyond-the-Standard Model (SM) couplings to fermion generations occur via textures that are well motivated from a broad class of ultraviolet flavour models (which we briefly review). We place particular emphasis on the study of the vector leptoquark Delta(mu) with assignments (3, 1, 2/3) under the SM's gauge symmetry, SU(3)(C) x SU(2)(L) x U(1)(Y), which has the tantalising possibility of explaining both R-K(*) and R-D(*) anomalies. Upon performing global likelihood scans of the leptoquark's coupling parameter space, focusing in particular on models with tree-level couplings to a single charged lepton species, we then provide confidence intervals and benchmark points preferred by low(er)-energy flavour data. Finally, we use these constraints to further evaluate the (promising) Large Hadron Collider (LHC) detection prospects of pairs of tau-flavoured Delta(mu), through their distinct (a)symmetric decay channels. Namely, we consider direct third-generation leptoquark and jets plus missing-energy searches at the LHC, which we find to be complementary. Depending on the simplified model under consideration, the direct searches constrain the Delta(mu), mass up to 1500-1770 GeV when the branching fraction of Delta(mu), is entirely to third-generation quarks (but are significantly reduced with decreased branching ratios to the third generation), whereas the missing-energy searches constrain the mass up to 1150-1700 GeV while being largely insensitive to the third-generation branching fraction.
