Abstract: We present a model based on the A(4) non-Abelian discrete symmetry leading to a predictive five-parameter neutrino mass matrix and providing a stable dark matter candidate. We found an interesting correlation among the atmospheric and the reactor angles which predicts theta(23) similar to pi/4for very small reactor angle and deviation from maximal atmospheric mixing for large theta(13). Only normal neutrino mass spectrum is possible and the effective mass entering the neutrinoless double beta decay rate is constrained to be vertical bar m(ee)vertical bar > 4 x 10(-4) eV.

Abstract: We present a model for weak charged-current induced nuclear reactions at energies of interest for current and future neutrino oscillation experiments. This model is a natural extension of the work in Refs. [1,2], where the quasielastic contribution to the inclusive electron and neutrino scattering on nuclei was analyzed. The model is based on a systematic many-body expansion of the gauge boson absorption modes that includes one, two, and even three-body mechanisms, as well as the excitation of Delta isobars. The whole scheme has no free parameters, besides those previously adjusted to the weak pion production off the nucleon cross sections in the deuteron, since all nuclear effects were set up in previous studies of photon, electron, and pion interactions with nuclei. We have discussed at length the recent charged-current quasielastic MiniBooNE cross section data, and showed that two-nucleon knockout mechanisms are essential to describing these measurements.

Abstract: We present a new framework for the extraction of the strong coupling from hadronic tau decays through finite-energy sum rules. Our focus is on the small, but still significant nonperturbative effects that, in principle, affect both the central value and the systematic error. We employ a quantitative model in order to accommodate violations of quark-hadron duality, and enforce a consistent treatment of the higher-dimensional contributions of the operator product expansion to our sum rules. Using 1998 OPAL data for the nonstrange isovector vector and axial-vector spectral functions, we find the n(f) = 3 values alpha(s)(m(tau)(2)) = 0.307 +/- 0.019 in fixed-order perturbation theory, and 0.322 +/- 0.026 in contour-improved perturbation theory. For comparison, the original OPAL analysis of the same data led to the values 0.324 +/- 0.014 (fixed order) and 0.348 +/- 0.021 (contour improved).

Abstract: We present a study of the decays B(+) -> DK(+) with D mesons reconstructed in the K(+)pi(-)pi(0) or K(-)pi(+)pi(0) final states, where D indicates a D(0) or a (D) over bar (0) meson. Using a sample of 474 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP- II asymmetric- energy e(+)e(-) collider at SLAC, we measure the ratios R +/- equivalent to Gamma(B(+)->[K(-/+)pi(+)pi(0)](D)K(+))/Gamma(B(+)->[K(+)pi(-/+)pi(0)](D) K(+)). We obtain R+ = (5(-10)(+12)(stat)(4)(2)(syst)) X 10(-3) and R(-) = (12(-10)(+12)(stat)(-5)(+3)(syst)) X 10(-3), from which we extract the upper limits at 90% probability: R(+) < 23 X 10(-3) and R- < 29 X 10(-3). Using these measurements, we obtain an upper limit for the ratio r(B) of the magnitudes of the b -> u and b -> c amplitudes r(B) < 0.13 at 90% probability.

Abstract: We present an analysis of exclusive charmless semileptonic B-meson decays based on 377 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. We select four event samples corresponding to the decay modes B-0 -> pi(-)l(+)v, B+ -> pi(0)l(+)v, B-0 -> rho(-)l(+)v, and B+ -> rho(0)l(+)v and find the measured branching fractions to be consistent with isospin symmetry. Assuming isospin symmetry, we combine the two B -> pi lv samples, and similarly the two B -> rho lv samples, and measure the branching fractions B(B-0 -> pi(-)l(+)v) = (1.41 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.07) x 10(-4) and B(B-0 -> rho(-)l(+)v) = (1.75 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.27) x 10(-4), where the errors are statistical and systematic. We compare the measured distribution in q(2), the momentum transfer squared, with predictions for the form factors from QCD calculations and determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-ub vertical bar. Based on the measured partial branching fraction for B -> pi lv in the range q(2) < 12 GeV2 and the most recent QCD light-cone sum-rule calculations, we obtain vertical bar V-ub vertical bar = (3.78 +/- 0.13(-0.40)(+0.55)10(-3), where the errors refer to the experimental and theoretical uncertainties. From a simultaneous fit to the data over the full q(2) range and the FNAL/MILC lattice QCD results, we obtain vertical bar V-ub vertical bar = (2.95 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3) from B -> pi lv, where the error is the combined experimental and theoretical uncertainty.

Abstract: We present an extension of the standard model (SM) based on the discrete flavor symmetry S-3 which gives a neutrino mass matrix with two-zero texture of Fritzsch type and nearly diagonal charged lepton mass matrix. The model is compatible with the normal hierarchy only and predicts sin(2) theta(13) approximate to 0.01 at the best-fit values of solar and atmospheric parameters and maximal leptonic CP violation.

Abstract: We present an unquenched N-f = 2 lattice computation of the B-K parameter which controls K-0 – (K) over bar (0) oscillations. A partially quenched setup is employed with two maximally twisted dynamical (sea) light Wilson quarks, and valence quarks of both the maximally twisted and the Osterwalder-Seiler variety. Suitable combinations of these two kinds of valence quarks lead to a lattice definition of the B-K parameter which is both multiplicatively renormalizable and O(a) improved. Employing the nonperturbative RI-MOM scheme, in the continuum limit and at the physical value of the pion mass we get B-K(RGI) = 0.729 +/- 0.030, a number well in line with the existing quenched and unquenched determinations.

Abstract: We present branching fraction and CP asymmetry measurements as well as angular studies of B -> phi phi K decays using 464 x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected by the BABAR experiment. The branching fractions are measured in the phi phi invariant mass range below the eta(c) resonance (m(phi phi) < 2.85 GeV). We find B(B(+) -> phi phi K(+)) = (5.6 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.3) x 10(-6) and B(B(0) -> phi phi K(0)) = (4.5 +/- 0.8 +/- 0.3) x 10(-6), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The measured direct CP asymmetries for the B(+/-) decays are A(CP) = -0.10 +/- 0.08 +/- 0: 02 below the eta(c) threshold (m(phi phi) < 2.85 GeV) and A(CP) = 0.09 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.02 in the eta(c) resonance region (m(phi phi) in [2.94, 3.02] GeV). Angular distributions are consistent with J(P) = 0(-) in the eta(c) resonance region and favor J(P) = 0(+) below the eta(c) resonance.

Abstract: We present first measurements of charged and neutral particle-flow correlations in pp collisions using the ATLAS calorimeters. Data were collected in 2009 and 2010 at centre-of-mass energies of 900 GeV and 7 TeV. Events were selected using a minimum-bias trigger which required a charged particle in scintillation counters on either side of the interaction point. Particle flows, sensitive to the underlying event, are measured using clusters of energy in the ATLAS calorimeters, taking advantage of their fine granularity. No Monte Carlo generator used in this analysis can accurately describe the measurements. The results are independent of those based on charged particles measured by the ATLAS tracking systems and can be used to constrain the parameters of Monte Carlo generators.

Abstract: We present measurements of partial branching fractions of B -> K+ X, B -> (KX)-X-0, and B -> pi(+) X, where X denotes any accessible final state above the endpoint for B decays to charmed mesons, specifically for momenta of the candidate hadron greater than 2.34 (2.36) GeV for kaons (pions) in the B rest frame. These measurements are sensitive to potential new-physics particles which could enter the b -> s(d) loop transitions. The analysis is performed on a data sample consisting of 383 X 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) asymmetric energy collider. We observe the inclusive B -> pi(+) X process, and we set upper limits for B -> K+ X and B -> (KX)-X-0. Our results for these inclusive branching fractions are consistent with those of known exclusive modes, and exclude large enhancements due to sources of new physics.
