Abstract: The cross section for the production of W bosons with subsequent decay W -> tau nu(tau) is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on a data sample that was recorded in 2010 at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb(-1). The cross section is measured in a region of high detector acceptance and then extrapolated to the full phase space. The product of the total W production cross section and the W -> tau nu(tau) branching ratio is measured to be sigma(tot)(W -> tau nu tau) = 11.1 +/- 0.3 (stat) +/- 1.7 (syst) +/- 0.4 (lumi) nb. Abstract: The cross-section for the production of two jets in association with a leptonically decaying Z boson (Zjj) is measured in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb(-1). The electroweak Zjj cross-section is extracted in a fiducial region chosen to enhance the electroweak contribution relative to the dominant Drell-Yan Zjj process, which is constrained using a data-driven approach. The measured fiducial electroweak cross-section is sigma(Zjj)(EW) = 119 +/- 16 (stat.) +/- 20 (syst.) +/- 2 (lumi.) fb for dijet invariant mass greater than 250 GeV, and 34.2 +/- 5.8 (stat.) +/- 5.5 (syst.) +/- 0.7 (lumi.) fb for dijet invariant mass greater than 1 TeV. Standard Model predictions are in agreement with the measurements. The inclusive Zjj cross-section is also measured in six different fiducial regions with varying contributions from electroweak and Drell-Yan Zjj production.

Abstract: The D-0 decay into K-s(0) and a scalar resonance, f(0)(500), f(0)(980), a(0)(980), are studied obtaining the scalar resonances from final state interaction of a pair of mesons produced in a first step in the D-0 decay into K-s(0) and the pair of pseudoscalar mesons. This weak decay is very appropriate for this kind of study because it allows to produce the three resonances in the same decay in a process that is Cabibbo-allowed, hence the rates obtained are large compared to those of (B) over bar (0) decays into J/psi and a scalar meson that have at least one Cabibbo-suppressedvertex. Concretely the a(0)(980) production is Cabibbo-allowedhere, while it cannot be seen in the (B) over bar (0)(s) decay into J/psi a(0)(980) and is doubly Cabibbo-suppressedin the (B) over bar (0) decay into J/psi a(0)(980) and has not been identified there. The fact that the three resonances can be seen in the same reaction, because there is no isospin conservation in the weak decays, offers a unique opportunity to test the ideas of the chiral unitary approach where these resonances are produced from the interaction of pairs of pseudoscalar mesons.

Abstract: The data taken with the ANTARES neutrino telescope from 2007 to 2010, a total live time of 863 days, are used to measure the oscillation parameters of atmospheric neutrinos. Muon tracks are reconstructed with energies as low as 20 GeV. Neutrino oscillations will cause a suppression of vertical upgoing muon neutrinos of such energies crossing the Earth. The parameters determining the oscillation of atmospheric neutrinos are extracted by fitting the event rate as a function of the ratio of the estimated neutrino energy and reconstructed flight path through the Earth. Measurement contours of the oscillation parameters in a two-flavour approximation are derived. Assuming maximal mixing, a mass difference of Delta m(32)(2) = (3.1 +/- 0.9) . 10(-3) eV(2) is obtained, in good agreement with the world average value.

Abstract: The decay (B) over bar (0)(s) -> psi(2S)K+pi(-) is observed using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The branching fraction relative to the B-0 -> psi(2S)K+pi(-) decay mode is measured to be B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> psi(2S)K+pi(-))/B(B-0 -> psi(2S)K+pi(-)) = 5.38 +/- 0.36 (stat) +/- 0.22 (syst) +/- 0.31 (f(s)/f(d)) %, where f(s)/f(d) indicates the uncertainty due to the ratio of probabilities for a b quark to hadronise into a B-s(0) or B-0 meson. Using an amplitude analysis, the fraction of decays proceeding via an intermediate K*(892)(0) meson is measured to be 0.645 +/- 0.049 (stat) +/- 0.049 (syst) and its longitudinal polarisation fraction is 0.524 +/- 0.056 (stat) +/- 0.029 (syst). The relative branching fraction for this component is determined to be B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> psi(2S)K*(892)(0))/B(B-0 -> psi(2S)K*(892)(0)) = 5.58 +/- 0.57 (stat) +/- 0.40 (syst) +/- 0.32 (f(s)/f(d)) %. In addition, the mass splitting between the B-s(0) and B-0 mesons is measured as M(B-s(0)) – M(B-0) = 87.45 +/- 0.44 (stat) +/- 0.09 (syst) MeV/c(2).

Abstract: The decay Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-) is observed using pp collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of root s = 7 and 8 Tev, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). The ratio of branching fractions between Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-) and Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) decays is measured to be B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) = 0.0540 +/- 0.0023 +/- 0.0032. Two resonant structures are observed in the Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) mass spectrum of the Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pp pi(-) decays, corresponding to the Xc(2455) and X (2520) states. The ratios of branching fractions with respect to the decay Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-) are B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Sigma(0)(c)p (p) over bar x B(Sigma(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-)) = 0.089 +/- 0.015 +/- 0.006, B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Sigma(c)*(0)p (p) over bar x B(Sigma(c)*(0) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)p (p) over bar pi(-)) = 0.119 +/- 0.020 +/- 0.014. In all of the above results, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The phase space is also examined for the presence of dibaryon resonances. No evidence for such resonances is found.

Abstract: The decay of an isomeric state in the neutron-rich nucleus Cd-129 has been observed via the detection of internal conversion and Compton electrons providing first experimental information on excited states in this nucleus. The isomer was populated in the projectile fission of a U-238 beam at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. From the measured yields of gamma-rays and internal conversion electrons, a multipolarity of E3 was tentatively assigned to the isomeric transition. A half-life of T-1/2 = 3.6(2) ms was determined for the new state which was assigned a spin of (21/2(+)), based on a comparison to shell model calculations performed using state-of-the-art realistic effective interactions.

Abstract: The decay of excited states of the nucleus Sn-135, with three neutrons outside the doubly-magic Sn-132 core, was studied in an experiment performed at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. Several gamma rays emitted from excited Sn-135 ions were observed following one-neutron and one-neutron-one-proton removal from Sn-136 and Sb-137 beams, respectively, on a beryllium target at relativistic energies. Based on the analogy to 133Sn populated via one-neutron removal from Sn-134, an excitation energy of 695(15) keV is assigned to the 3/2(-) state with strongest single-particle character in 135Sn. This result provides the first direct information about the evolution of the neutron shell structure beyond N = 82 and thus allows for a crucial test of shellmodel calculations in this region. The experimental findings are in full agreement with calculations performed employing microscopic effective two-body interactions derived from CD-Bonn and N3LO nucleon-nucleon potentials, which do not predict a pronounced subshell gap at neutron number N=90. The occurrence of such a gap in Sn-140, i.e., when the 1f(7/2) orbital is completely filled, had been proposed in the past, in analogy to the magicity of Ca-48, featuring a completely filled 0f(7/2) orbital one harmonic oscillator shell below.

Abstract: The decay Z -> b (b) over bar is reconstructed in pp collision data, corresponding to 2 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV. The product of the Z production cross-section and the Z -> b (b) over bar branching fraction is measured for candidates in the fiducial region defined by two particle-level b-quark jets with pseudorapidities in the range 2.2 < eta < 4.2, with transverse momenta p(T) > 20 GeV and dijet invariant mass in the range 45 < m(jj) < 165 GeV. From a signal yield of 5462 +/- 763 Z -> b (b) over bar events, where the uncertainty is statistical, a production cross-section times branching fraction of 332 +/- 46 +/- 59 pb is obtained, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The measured significance of the signal yield is 6.0 standard deviations. This measurement represents the first observation of the Z -> b (b) over bar production in the forward region of pp collisions.

Abstract: The difference in total widths between the B-c(+) and B+ mesons is measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energy proton-proton collisions at the LHC. Through the study of the time evolution of B-c(+) -> J/psi pi(+) and B+ -> J/psi K+ decays, the width difference is measured to be Delta Gamma = Gamma(Bc+) – Gamma(Bc+) = 4.46 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.07 mm(-1) c, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The known lifetime of the B+ meson is used to convert this to a precise measurement of the B-c(+) clifetime, tau(Bc+) = 513.4 +/- 11.0 +/- 5.7 fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.
