Title Measurement of the forward Z boson production cross-section in pp collisions at root s=13 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 09 Issue 9 Pages 136 - 33pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments)
Abstract (down) A measurement of the production cross-section of Z bosons in pp collisions at root s=13 TeV is presented using dimuon and dielectron final states in LHCb data. The cross-section is measured for leptons with pseudorapidities in the range 2.0 < eta < 4.5, transverse momenta pT > 20 GeV and dilepton invariant mass in the range 60 < m(ll) < 120 GeV. The integrated cross-section from averaging the two final states is sigma(ll)(Z) = 194.3+/-0.9+/-3.3+/-7.6 pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is due to systematic effects, and the third is due to the luminosity determination. In addition, differential cross-sections are measured as functions of the Z boson rapidity, transverse momentum and the angular variable phi(eta)*.

Title Measurement of the four-lepton invariant mass spectrum in 13 TeV proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 04 Issue 4 Pages 048 - 50pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments)
Abstract (down) A measurement of the four-lepton invariant mass spectrum is made with the ATLAS detector, using an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV delivered by the Large Hadron Collider. The differential cross-section is measured for events containing two same-flavour opposite-sign lepton pairs. It exhibits a rich structure, with different mass regions dominated in the Standard Model by single Z boson production, Higgs boson production, and Z boson pair production, and non-negligible interference effects at high invariant masses. The measurement is compared with state-of-the-art Standard Model calculations, which are found to be consistent with the data. These calculations are used to interpret the data in terms of gg -> ZZ -> 4l and Z -> 4l subprocesses, and to place constraints on a possible contribution from physics beyond the Standard Model.

Title Measurements of the S-wave fraction in B-0 -> K+ pi(-) mu(+) mu(-) decays and the B-0 -> K*(892)(0) mu(+) mu(-) differential branching fraction Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 11 Issue 11 Pages 047 - 30pp
Keywords B physics; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay
Abstract (down) A measurement of the differential branching fraction of the decay B-0 -> K* (892)(0) mu(+)mu(-) is presented together with a determination of the S-wave fraction of the K+ pi(-) system in the decay B-0 -> K+ pi-mu(+)mu(-). The analysis is based on pp-collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb experiment. The measurements are made in bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, q(2). Precise theoretical predictions for the differential branching fraction of B-0 -> K* (892)(0) mu(+) mu(-) decays are available for the q(2) region 1.1 < q(2) < 6.0 GeV2/c(4). In this q(2) region, for the K+pi(-) invariant mass range 796 < m(K pi) < 996MeV/c(2), the S-wave fraction of the K+pi(-) system in B-0 -> K+pi(-)mu(+)mu(-) decays is found to be F-S – 0.101 +/- 0.017(stat) +/- 0: 009(syst), and the differential branching fraction of B-0 -> K* (892)(0) mu(+)mu(-) decays is determined to be dB/dq(2) = (0.392(-0.019)(+ 0.020)(stat) +/- 0.010(syst) +/- 0.027(norm)) x 10(-7) c(4)/GeV2. The differential branching fraction measurements presented are the most precise to date and are found to be in agreement with Standard Model predictions.

Title Measurement of forward W -> e nu production in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 10 Issue 10 Pages 030 - 29pp
Keywords Electroweak interaction; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); QCD
Abstract (down) A measurement of the cross-section for W -> e nu production in pp collisions is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV. The electrons are required to have more than 20 GeV of transverse momentum and to lie between 2.00 and 4.25 in pseudorapidity. The inclusive W production cross-sections, where the W decays to e nu, are measured to be W-sigma(+)-> e(+)nu(e)= 1124.4 +/- 2.1 +/- 21.5 +/- 11.2 +/- 13.0 pb, W-sigma(-)-> e(-)(nu) over bar (e) = 809.0 +/- 1.9 +/- 18.1 +/- 7.0 +/- 9.4 pb, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, the third are due to the knowledge of the LHC beam energy and the fourth are due to the luminosity determination. Differential cross-sections as a function of the electron pseudorapidity are measured. The W+/W- cross-section ratio and production charge asymmetry are also reported. Results are compared with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Finally, in a precise test of lepton universality, the ratio of W boson branching fractions is determined to be B(W -> e nu)/B(W -> μnu) = 1.020 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.019, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Title Measurement of the inclusive isolated prompt photon cross section in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.

Abstract (down) A measurement of the cross section for the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV is presented. The measurement covers the pseudorapidity ranges vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 1.37 and 1.56 aecurrency sign vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 2.37 in the transverse energy range 25 < E-T(gamma) < 1500 GeV. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb(-1), recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Photon candidates are identified by combining information from the calorimeters and the inner tracker. The background is subtracted using a data-driven technique, based on the observed calorimeter shower-shape variables and the deposition of hadronic energy in a narrow cone around the photon candidate. The measured cross sections are compared with leading-order and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations and are found to be in a good agreement over ten orders of magnitude.
