Title Measurement of chi(c1) (3872) production in proton-proton collisions at root s=8 and 13 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 01 Issue 1 Pages 131 - 27pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract (up) The production cross-section of the chi(c1)(3872) state relative to the psi(2S) meson is measured using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of root s = 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.0 and 5.4 fb(-1), respectively. The two mesons are reconstructed in the J/psi pi(+) pi(-) final state. The ratios of the prompt and nonprompt chi(c1)(3872) to psi(2S) production cross-sections are measured as a function of transverse momentum, p(T), and rapidity, y, of the chi(c1)(3872) and psi(2S) states, in the kinematic range 4 < p(T) < 20 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The prompt ratio is found to increase with pT , independently of y. For the prompt component, the double ratio of the chi(c1)(3872) and psi(2S) production cross-sections between 13 and 8 TeV is observed to be consistent with unity, independent of p(T) and centre-of-mass energy.

Title Measurement of the Nuclear Modification Factor and Prompt Charged Particle Production in p-Pb and pp Collisions at root s(NN )=5 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 128 Issue 14 Pages 142004 - 12pp
  Keywords
Abstract (up) The production of prompt charged particles in proton-lead collisions and in proton-proton collisions at the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy root s(NN) = 5 TeV is studied at LHCb as a function of pseudorapidity (eta) and transverse momentum (p(T) ) with respect to the proton beam direction. The nuclear modification factor for charged particles is determined as a function of eta between -4.8 < eta < -2.5 (backward region) and 2.0 < eta < 4.8 (forward region), and p(T) between 0.2 < p(T) < 8.0 GeV/c. The results show a suppression of charged particle production in proton-lead collisions relative to proton-proton collisions in the forward region and an enhancement in the backward region for p(T) larger than 1.5 GeV/c. This measurement constrains nuclear PDFs and saturation models at previously unexplored values of the parton momentum fraction down to 10(-6).

Title Design, construction and operation of the ProtoDUNE-SP Liquid Argon TPC Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Journal of Instrumentation Abbreviated Journal J. Instrum.
  Volume 17 Issue 1 Pages P01005 - 111pp
Keywords Noble liquid detectors (scintillation, ionization, double-phase); Photon detectors for UV; visible and IR photons (solid-state) (PIN diodes, APDs, Si-PMTs, G-APDs, CCDs, EBCCDs, EMCCDs, CMOS imagers, etc); Scintillators; scintillation and light emission processes (solid, gas and liquid scintillators); Time projection Chambers (TPC)
Abstract (up) The ProtoDUNE-SP detector is a single-phase liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) that was constructed and operated in the CERN North Area at the end of the H4 beamline. This detector is a prototype for the first far detector module of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), which will be constructed at the Sandford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, U.S.A. The ProtoDUNE-SP detector incorporates full-size components as designed for DUNE and has an active volume of 7 x 6 x 7.2 m3. The H4 beam delivers incident particles with well-measured momenta and high-purity particle identification. ProtoDUNE-SP's successful operation between 2018 and 2020 demonstrates the effectiveness of the single-phase far detector design. This paper describes the design, construction, assembly and operation of the detector components.

Title RF Acquisition System Based on μTCA for Testing of High-Gradient Acceleration Cavities Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Electronics Abbreviated Journal Electronics
  Volume 11 Issue 5 Pages 720 - 22pp
Keywords radio frequency; accelerator cavities; mu TCA systems; Low Level RF system
Abstract (up) The radio frequency (RF) laboratory hosted in the Corpuscular Physics Institute (IFIC) of the University of Valencia is designed to house a high-power and high-repetition-rate facility to test normal conduction RF accelerator cavities in the S-Band (2.9985 GHz) in order to perform R & D activities related to particle accelerator cavities. The system, which manages the entire process of RF signal generation, data acquisition and closed-loop control of the laboratory, is currently based on a modular and compact PXI platform system. This contribution details the development of a platform with similar features, but which is based on open architecture standards at both the hardware and software level. For this purpose, a complete system based on the μTCA platform has been developed. This new system must be able to work with accelerator cavities at other operating frequencies, such as 750 MHz, as well as to explore different options at firmware and software levels based on open-source codes.

Title Study of the Very High Energy Emission of M87 through its Broadband Spectral Energy Distribution Type Journal Article

Abstract (up) The radio galaxy M87 is the central dominant galaxy of the Virgo Cluster. Very high-energy (VHE, greater than or similar to 0.1 TeV) emission from M87 has been detected by imaging air Cherenkov telescopes. Recently, marginal evidence for VHE long-term emission has also been observed by the High Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory, a gamma-ray and cosmic-ray detector array located in Puebla, Mexico. The mechanism that produces VHE emission in M87 remains unclear. This emission originates in its prominent jet, which has been spatially resolved from radio to X-rays. In this paper, we construct a spectral energy distribution from radio to gamma rays that is representative of the nonflaring activity of the source, and in order to explain the observed emission, we fit it with a lepto-hadronic emission model. We found that this model is able to explain nonflaring VHE emission of M87 as well as an orphan flare reported in 2005.
