Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, descending order (down)](img/sort_desc.gif) |
The neutron-induced fission cross sections of Th-232 and U-233 were measured relative to U-235 in a wide neutron energy range up to 1 GeV (and from fission threshold in the case of Th-232, and from 0.7 eV in case of U-233), using the white-spectrum neutron source at the CERN Neutron Time-of-Flight (nTOF) facility. Parallel plate avalanche counters (PPACs) were used, installed at the Experimental Area 1 (EAR1), which is located at 185 m from the neutron spallation target. The anisotropic emission of fission fragments were taken into account in the detection efficiency by using, in the case of U-233, previous results available in EXFOR, whereas in the case of Th-232 these data were obtained from our measurement, using PPACs and targets tilted 45 degrees with respect to the neutron beam direction. Finally, the obtained results are compared with past measurements and major evaluated nuclear data libraries. Calculations using the high-energy reaction models INCL++ and ABLA07 were performed and some of their parameters were modified to reproduce the experimental results. At high energies, where no other neutron data exist, our results are compared with experimental data on proton-induced fission. Moreover, the dependence of the fission cross section at 1 GeV with the fissility parameter of the target nucleus is studied by combining those ( p, f) data with our (n, f) data on Th-232 and U-233 and on other isotopes studied earlier at nTOF using the same experimental setup. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, descending order (down)](img/sort_desc.gif) |
The neutron-induced fission cross section of Th-230 has been measured at the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF located at CERN. The experiment was performed at the experimental area EAR-1 with a neutron flight path of 185 m, using Micromegas detectors for the detection of the fission fragments. The Th-230(n, f ) cross section was determined relative to the U-235(n, f ) one, covering the energy range from the fission threshold up to 400 MeV. The results from the present work are compared with existing cross-section datasets and the observed discrepancies are discussed and analyzed. Finally, using the code EMPIRE 3.2.3 a theoretical study, based on the statistical model, was performed leading to a satisfactory reproduction of the experimental results with the proper tuning of the respective parameters, while for incident neutron energy beyond 200 MeV the fission of( 230)Th was described by Monte Carlo simulations. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, descending order (down)](img/sort_desc.gif) |
The MUSE experiment at Paul Scherrer Institute will perform the first measurement of low-energy muon-proton elastic scattering (muon lab momenta 115-210 MeV) with the aim of determining the proton charge radius. We study the prospects for the proton radius extraction using the theoretical framework of dispersively improved chiral effective field theory (DI.EFT). It connects the proton radii with the finite-Q(2) behavior of the form factors through complex analyticity and enables the use of data up to Q(2) similar to 0.1 GeV2 for radius extraction. We quantify the sensitivity of the μp cross section to the proton charge radius, the theoretical uncertainty of the cross section predictions, and the size of two-photon exchange corrections. We find that the optimal kinematics for radius extraction at MUSE is at momenta 210 MeV and Q(2) similar to 0.05-0.08 GeV2. We compare the performance of electron and muon scattering in the same kinematics. As a by-product, we obtain explicit predictions for the μp and ep cross sections at MUSE as functions of the assumed value of the proton radius. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, descending order (down)](img/sort_desc.gif) |
The measurement of charmonium states produced in proton-neon (pNe) collisions by the LHCb experiment in its fixed-target configuration is presented. The production of J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons is studied with a beam of 2.5 TeV protons colliding on gaseous neon targets at rest, cvorresponding to a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy root(NN)-N-s = 68.5GeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 21.7 +/- 1.4 nb(-1). The J/Psi and Psi(2S) hadrons are reconstructed in mu(+) mu(-) final states. The J/Psi production cross-section per target nucleon in the centre-of-mass rapidity range y* is an element of [-2.29, 0] is found to be 506 +/- 8 +/- 46 nb/nucleon. The ratio of J/Psi and D-0 cross-sections is evaluated to (1.06 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.09)%. The Psi(2S) to J/Psi relative production rate is found to be (1.67 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.10)% in good agreement with other measurements involving beam and target nuclei of similar sizes. |

Abstract ![sorted by Abstract field, descending order (down)](img/sort_desc.gif) |
The mass of the Higgs boson is measured in the H -> Z Z* -> 4l decay channel. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data from the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector between 2015 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). The measured value of the Higgs boson mass is 124.99 0.18(stat.) +/- 0.04(syst.) GeV. In final states with muons, this measurement benefits from an improved momentum-scale calibration relative to that adopted in previous publications. The measurement also employs an analytic model that takes into account the invariant-mass resolution of the four-lepton system on a per-event basis and the output of a deep neural network discriminating signal from background events. This measurement is combined with the corresponding measurement using 7 and 8 TeV pp collision data, resulting in a Higgs boson mass of 124.94 +/- 0.17(stat.) +/- 0.03(syst.) GeV. |
