Abstract |
The prevalence of hadronic jets at the LHC requires that a deep understanding of jet formation and structure is achieved in order to reach the highest levels of experimental and theoretical precision. There have been many measurements of jet substructure at the LHC and previous colliders, but the targeted observables mix physical effects from various origins. Based on a recent proposal to factorize physical effects, this Letter presents a double-differential cross-section measurement of the Lund jet plane using 139 fb(-1) of root s = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector using jets with transverse momentum above 675 GeV. The measurement uses charged particles to achieve a fine angular resolution and is corrected for acceptance and detector effects. Several parton shower Monte Carlo models are compared with the data. No single model is found to be in agreement with the measured data across the entire plane. |

Abstract |
The polarization of photons produced in radiative B-s(0) decays is studied for the first time. The data are recorded by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. A time-dependent analysis of the B-s(0) ->phi gamma decay rate is conducted to determine the parameter A(Delta), which is related to the ratio of right-over left-handed photon polarization amplitudes in b -> s gamma transitions. A value of A(Delta) = -0.98(-0.52)(-0.20)(+0.46)(+0.23) is measured. This result is consistent with the standard model prediction within 2 standard deviations. |

Abstract |
The photon spectrum in the inclusive electromagnetic radiative decays of the B meson, B --> X-s gamma plus B --> X-d gamma, is studied using a data sample of (382.8 +/- 4.2) x 10(6)Y(4S) --> B (B) over bar decays collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. The spectrum is used to extract the branching fraction B(B --> X-s gamma) = (3.21 +/- 0.33) x 10(-4) for E-gamma > 1.8 GeV and the direct CP asymmetry A(CP)(B --> Xs+d gamma) = 0.057 +/- 0.063. The effects of detector resolution and Doppler smearing are unfolded to measure the photon energy spectrum in the B meson rest frame. |

Abstract |
The only anticipated resonant contributions to B+ -> D+D-K+ decays are charmonium states in the D+D- channel. A model-independent analysis, using LHCb proton-proton collision data taken at centerof-mass energies of root s = 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1), is carried out to test this hypothesis. The description of the data assuming that resonances only manifest in decays to the D+D- pair is shown to be incomplete. This constitutes evidence for a new contribution to the decay, potentially one or more new charm-strange resonances in the D-K+ channel with masses around 2.9 GeV/c(2). |

Abstract |
The observation of forward proton scattering in association with lepton pairs (e(+)e(-) + p or mu(+)mu(-) + p) produced via photon fusion is presented. The scattered proton is detected by the ATLAS Forward Proton spectrometer, while the leptons are reconstructed by the central ATLAS detector. Proton-proton collision data recorded in 2017 at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV are analyzed, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 14.6 fb(-1). A total of 57 (123) candidates in the ee + p (mu μ+ p) final state arc selected, allowing the background-only hypothesis to be rejected with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations in each channel. Proton-tagging techniques are introduced for cross-section measurements in the fiducial detector acceptance, corresponding to sigma(ee)(+p) = 11.0 +/- 2.6(stat) 1.2(syst) +/- 0.3(lumi) and sigma(mu)(mu+)(p) = 7.2 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 0.9(syst) 0.2(lumi) fb in the dielectron and dimuon channel, respectively. |
