Title Measurement of the production cross section of prompt j/psi mesons in association with a W (+/-) boson in pp collisions root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 04 Issue 4 Pages 172 - 37pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract (down) The process pp -> W (+/-) J/psi provides a powerful probe of the production mechanism of charmonium in hadronic collisions, and is also sensitive to multiple parton interactions in the colliding protons. Using the 2011 ATLAS dataset of 4.5 fb(-1) of root s= 7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC, the first observation is made of the production of W (+/-) + prompt J/psi events in hadronic collisions, using W (+/-) -> μnu(mu) and J/psi -> mu(+)mu(-) center dot A yield of W (+/-) + prompt J/psi events is observed, with a statistical significance of 5.1 sigma. The production rate as a ratio to the inclusive W (+/-) boson production rate is measured, and the double parton scattering contribution to the cross section is estimated.

Title The performance of the jet trigger for the ATLAS detector during 2011 data taking Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 76 Issue 10 Pages 526 - 47pp

Abstract (down) The performance of the jet trigger for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during the 2011 data taking period is described. During 2011 the LHC provided proton-proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and heavy ion collisions with a 2.76 TeV per nucleon-nucleon collision energy. The ATLAS trigger is a three level system designed to reduce the rate of events from the 40 MHz nominal maximum bunch crossing rate to the approximate 400 Hz which can be written to offline storage. The ATLAS jet trigger is the primary means for the online selection of events containing jets. Events are accepted by the trigger if they contain one or more jets above some transverse energy threshold. During 2011 data taking the jet trigger was fully efficient for jets with transverse energy above 25 GeV for triggers seeded randomly at Level 1. For triggers which require a jet to be identified at each of the three trigger levels, full efficiency is reached for offline jets with transverse energy above 60 GeV. Jets reconstructed in the final trigger level and corresponding to offline jets with transverse energy greater than 60 GeV, are reconstructed with a resolution in transverse energy with respect to offline jets, of better than 4 % in the central region and better than 2.5 % in the forward direction.

Title Performance of the ATLAS muon trigger in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV Type Journal Article

  Volume 75 Issue 3 Pages 120 - 31pp

Abstract (down) The performance of the ATLAS muon trigger system is evaluated with proton-proton collision data collected in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 8TeV. It is primarily evaluated using events containing a pair of muons from the decay of Z bosons. The efficiency of the single-muon trigger is measured for muons with transverse momentum 25 < pT < 100 GeV, with a statistical uncertainty of less than 0.01% and a systematic uncertainty of 0.6%. The pT range for efficiency determination is extended by using muons from decays of J/Psi mesons, W bosons, and top quarks. The muon trigger shows highly uniform and stable performance. The performance is compared to the prediction of a detailed simulation.

Title Two-particle Bose-Einstein correlations in pp collisions at root s=0.9 and 7 TeV measured with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 75 Issue 10 Pages 466 - 25pp

Abstract (down) The paper presents studies of Bose-EinsteinCorrelations (BEC) for pairs of like-sign charged particles measured in the kinematic range p(T) > 100 MeV and |eta| < 2.5 in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 0.9 and 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The integrated luminosities are approximately 7 μb(-1), 190 μb(-1) and 12.4 nb(-1) for 0.9 TeV, 7 TeV minimum-bias and 7 TeV high-multiplicity data samples, respectively. The multiplicity dependence of the BEC parameters characterizing the correlation strength and the correlation source size are investigated for charged-particle multiplicities of up to 240. A saturation effect in the multiplicity dependence of the correlation source size parameter is observed using the high-multiplicity 7 TeV data sample. The dependence of the BEC parameters on the average transverse momentum of the particle pair is also investigated.

Title Measurement of the charged-particle multiplicity inside jets from root s=8 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
  Volume 76 Issue 6 Pages 322 - 23pp

Abstract (down) The number of charged particles inside jets is a widely used discriminant for identifying the quark or gluon nature of the initiating parton and is sensitive to both the perturbative and non-perturbative components of fragmentation. This paper presents a measurement of the average number of charged particles with p(T) > 500 MeV inside high-momentum jets in dijet events using 20.3 fb(-1) of data recorded with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at root s = 8 TeV collisions at the LHC. The jets considered have transverse momenta from 50 GeV up to and beyond 1.5 TeV. The reconstructed charged-particle track multiplicity distribution is unfolded to remove distortions from detector effects and the resulting charged-particle multiplicity is compared to several models. Furthermore, quark and gluon jet fractions are used to extract the average charged-particle multiplicity for quark and gluon jets separately.
