Abstract (down) We report the result of a search for the rare decay B-0 -> gamma gamma in 426 fb(-1) of data, corresponding to 226 x 10(6) B-0(B) over bar (0) pairs, collected on the Y(4S) resonance at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider using the BABAR detector. We use a maximum likelihood fit to extract the signal yield and observe 21(-12)(+13) signal events with a statistical significance of 1.8 sigma. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(B-0 -> gamma gamma) = (1.7 +/- 1.1(stat.) +/- 0.2(syst.)) X 10(-7). Based on this result, we set a 90% confidence level upper limit of B(B-0 -> gamma gamma) < 3.2 X 10(-7).

Abstract (down) We report the observation of the baryonic decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over barK(-)K(+) using a data sample of 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs produced in e(+)e(-) annihilations at root s = 10.58 GeV. This data sample was recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP- II storage ring at SLAC. We find B((B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over barK(-)K(+)) = (2.5 +/- 0.4((stat)) +/- 0.2((syst)) +/- 0.6(B(Lambda c+)) ) x 10(-5) where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty of the Lambda(+)(c) -> (p) over barK(-)pi(+) branching fraction, respectively. The result has a significance corresponding to 5.0 standard deviations, including all uncertainties. For the resonant decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar phi, we determine the upper limit B((B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar phi) < 1.2 x 10(-5) at 90% confidence level.

Abstract (down) We report the observation of the baryonic B decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)Lambda K(-) with a significance larger than 7 standard deviations based on 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We measure the branching fraction for the decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)Lambda K(-) to be (3.8 +/- 0.8(stat) +/- 0.2(sys) +/- 1.0(Lambda c)(+)) x 10(-5). The uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda(+)(c) branching fraction. We find that the Lambda(+)(c)K(-) invariant-mass distribution shows an enhancement above 3.5 GeV/c(2).

Title Observation and measurement of Higgs boson decays to WW* with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 92 Issue 1 Pages 012006 - 84pp

Abstract (down) We report the observation of Higgs boson decays to WW* based on an excess over background of 6.1 standard deviations in the dilepton final state, where the Standard Model expectation is 5.8 standard deviations. Evidence for the vector-boson fusion (VBF) production process is obtained with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations. The results are obtained from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb(-1) from root s = 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. For a Higgs boson mass of 125.36 GeV, the ratio of the measured value to the expected value of the total production cross section times branching fraction is 1.09(-0.15)(+0.16)(stat)(-0.14)(+0.17)(syst). The corresponding ratios for the gluon fusion and vector-boson fusion production mechanisms are 1.02 +/- 0.19(stat)(-0.18)(+0.22)(syst) and 1.27(-0.40)(+0.44)(stat)(-0.21)(+0.30)(syst), respectively. At root s = 8 TeV, the total production cross sections are measured to be sigma(gg -> H -> WW*) = 4.6 +/- 0.9(stat)(-0.7)(+0.8)(syst) pb and sigma(VBF H -> WW*) = 0.51(-0.15)(+0.17)(stat)(-0.08)(+0.13)(syst) pb. The fiducial cross section is determined for the gluon-fusion process in exclusive final states with zero or one associated jet.

Abstract (down) We report the observation of electroweak single top quark production in 3: 2 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collision data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab at root s = 1.96 TeV. Candidate events in the W + jets topology with a leptonically decaying W boson are classified as signal-like by four parallel analyses based on likelihood functions, matrix elements, neural networks, and boosted decision trees. These results are combined using a super discriminant analysis based on genetically evolved neural networks in order to improve the sensitivity. This combined result is further combined with that of a search for a single top quark signal in an orthogonal sample of events with missing transverse energy plus jets and no charged lepton. We observe a signal consistent with the standard model prediction but inconsistent with the background-only model by 5.0 standard deviations, with a median expected sensitivity in excess of 5.9 standard deviations. We measure a production cross section of 2.3-(+0.6)(0.5) (stat + sys) pb, extract the value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-tb vertical bar = 0.91(-0.11)(+0.11) (stat + sys) +/- 0.07 (theory), and set a lower limit vertical bar V-tb vertical bar > 0.71 at the 95% C. L., assuming m(t) = 175 GeV/c(2).
