  Abstract (down) Angular distributions of.-rays for selected transitions in Ar-40,Ar-41,Ar-42 isotopes have been studied with the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer coupled to the CLARA gamma array. These transitions were populated in Ar isotopes reached via neutron transfer in the Ar-40 + Pb-208 reaction. By comparison with the shape of the experimental angular distribution of the known E2 transitions we established more firmly the spin and parity of excited states. In particular, in Ar-41 for the (11/2(-)) state through the (11/2(-)) -> 7/2(-) transition whose structure was discussed in terms of a phonon-fermion coupled state. The comparison with the expected fully aligned spin indicated that a high level of spin alignment has been reached.

  Title Probing isospin mixing with the giant dipole resonance in the Zn-60 compound nucleus Type Journal Article

  Abstract (down) An experimental study of the isospin mixing in the mass region A = 60 was made by measuring the gamma decay from the giant dipole resonance in the compound nuclei Zn-60 and Zn-62. These compound nuclei were populated at two different excitation energies, E* = 47 MeV and E* = 58 MeV using the fusion evaporation reactions S-32 + Si-28 at the bombarding energy of 86 and 110 MeV and S-32 + Si-30 at 75 and 98 MeV. In the experiment, performed at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), the gamma rays were measured with the GALILEO detection system in which large-volume LaBr3(Ce) detectors were added to the HPGe detectors. The Coulomb spreading width was obtained from the comparison of the two reactions and then the isospin mixing parameter at zero temperature and the isospin-symmetry-breaking correction for beta decay were deduced. The present results were compared with data of the same type in other mass regions and with data from mass and beta-decay measurements and with theory. The present data allow us to deduce for the first time a consistent picture for mass dependence of isospin mixing and for the corresponding correction for the beta decay, supporting a reliable extension to the very interesting region of Sn-100.

  Title Quadrupole collectivity in Ca-42 from low-energy Coulomb excitation with AGATA Type Journal Article

  Abstract (down) ACoulomb-excitation experiment to study electromagnetic properties of Ca-42 was performed using a 170-MeV calcium beam from the TANDEM XPU facility at INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. gamma rays from excited states in Ca-42 were measured with the AGATA spectrometer. The magnitudes and relative signs of ten E2 matrix elements coupling six low-lying states in Ca-42, including the diagonal E2 matrix elements of 2(1)(+) and 2(2)(+) states, were determined using the least-squares code GOSIA. The obtained set of reduced E2 matrix elements was analyzed using the quadrupole sum rule method and yielded overall quadrupole deformation for 0(1),(+)(2) and 2(1,2)(+) states, as well as triaxiality for 0(1,2)(+) states, establishing the coexistence of a weakly deformed ground-state band and highly deformed slightly triaxial sideband in Ca-42. The experimental results were compared with the state-of-the-art large-scale shell-model and beyond-mean-field calculations, which reproduce well the general picture of shape coexistence in Ca-42.

  Abstract (down) A study of the dimensions and performance of a single detector of the future neutron detector array NEDA was performed by means of Monte Carlo simulations, using GEANT4. Two different liquid scintillators were evaluated: the hydrogen based BC501A and the deuterated BC537. The efficiency and the probability that one neutron will trigger a signal in more than one detector were investigated as a function of the detector size. The simulations were validated comparing the results to experimental measurements performed with two existing neutron detectors, with different geometries, based on the liquid scintillator BC501.

  Abstract (down) A new high-spin isomer in the neutron-rich nucleus Cd-128 was populated in the projectile fission of a U-238 beam at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. A half-life of T-1/2 = 6.3(8) mswas measured for the new state which was tentatively assigned a spin/parity of (15(-)). The experimental results are compared to shell model calculations performed using state-of-the-art realistic effective interactions and to the neighbouring nucleus Cd-129. In the present experiment no evidence was found for the decay of a 18(+) E6 spin-trap isomer, based on the complete alignment of the two-neutron and two-proton holes in the 0h(11/2) and the 0g(9/2) orbit, respectively, which is predicted to exist by the shell model.
