Title Relevance of nanocomposite packaging on the stability of vacuum-packed dry cured ham Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Meat Science Abbreviated Journal Meat Sci.
Volume 118 Issue Pages 8-14
Keywords Clay; Nanocomposite; Polyamide; Skin; TBARS; Vacuum; Meat; Ham
Abstract (up) In this study effects of a novel high barrier multilayer polyamide film containing dispersed nanoclays (PAN) on the stability of vacuum packed dry-cured ham were investigated during 90 days refrigerated storage in comparison with non-modified multilayer polyamide (PA) and a commercial high barrier film. Characteristic bands of the mineral in FT-IR spectra confirmed the presence of nanoclays in PAN, enhancing oxygen transmission barrier properties and UV protection. Packaging in PAN films did not originate significant changes on colour or lipid oxidation during prolonged storage of vacuum-packed dry-cured ham. Larger oxygen transmission rates in PA films caused changes in CIE b* during refrigerated storage. Ham quality was not affected by light exposition during 90 days and only curing had a significant benefit on colour and TBARS, being cured samples more stable during storage in all the packages used. Packaging of dry-cured ham in PAN was equivalent to commercial high barrier films.

Abstract (up) In this work we explore for the first time the applicability of using gamma-ray imaging in neutron capture measurements to identify and suppress spatially localized background. For this aim, a pinhole gamma camera is assembled, tested and characterized in terms of energy and spatial performance. It consists of a monolithic CeBr3 scintillating crystal coupled to a position-sensitive photomultiplier and readout through an integrated circuit AMIC2GR. The pinhole collimator is a massive carven block of lead. A series of dedicated measurements with calibrated sources and with a neutron beam incident on a Au-197 sample have been carried out at n_TOF, achieving an enhancement of a factor of two in the signal-to-background ratio when selecting only those events coming from the direction of the sample.

Abstract (up) In this work we have studied T-z = +2 -> +1, Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions in the Ti-48(He-3, t)V-48 chargeexchange reaction at 140 MeV/nucleon and 0 degrees at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka. From the high-resolution facility, consisting of a high-dispersion beamline and the Grand Raiden spectrometer, the spectrum had an energy resolution of 21 keV, among the best achieved. Individual GT transitions were observed and GT strength was derived for each state populated up to an excitation energy of 12 MeV. The total sum of the B(GT) strength observed in discrete states was 4.0, which is 33% of the sum-rule-limit value of 12. The results were compared with the results of shell-model calculations carried out with the GXPF1J interaction. The measured B(GT) distribution was also compared with that obtained in the (He-3, t) charge-exchange reaction on Ti-47. On the assumption of isospin symmetry the beta spectrum of the T-z = -2 nucleus Fe-48 was deduced from the observed spectrum in the Ti-48(He-3, t)V-48 reaction and this predicted spectrum was compared with the measured one.

Abstract (up) In this work we stu dy the rho B*(B) over bar* three-body system solving the Faddeev equations in the fixed center approximation. We assume the B*B* system forming a cluster, and in terms of the two-body rho B* unitarized scattering amplitudes in the local hidden gauge approach we find a new I(J(PC)) = 1(3(--)) state. The mass of the new state corresponds to a two-particle invariant mass of the rho B* system close to the resonant energy of the B-2(*) (5747), indicating that the role of this J = 2 resonance is important in the dynamical generation of the new state.

Abstract (up) In this work, we develop a model for Higgs-like composites based on two generations of right-handed neutrinos that condense. We analyze the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the theory with two explicit breakings, setting the different scales of the model and obtaining massive bosons as a result. Finally, we calculate the gravitational wave imprint left by the phase transition associated with the symmetry breaking of a generic potential dictated by the symmetries of the composites.

Abstract (up) In this work, we investigate the mass corrections of the doubly charmed baryons up to (NLO)-L-2 in the extended-on-mass-shell (EOMS) renormalization scheme, comparing with the results of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We find that the terms from the heavy baryon approach are a subset of those obtained in the EOMS scheme. By fitting the lattice data, we can determine the parameters (m) over tilde, alpha, c(1) and c(7) from the Lagrangian, while in the heavy baryon approach no information on c(1) can be obtained from the baryons mass. Correspondingly, the masses of m(Xi cc) and m(Omega cc) are predicted, in the EOMS scheme, extrapolating the results from different values of the charm quark and the pion masses of the lattice QCD calculations.

Abstract (up) In this work, we study systems composed of a rho/omega and B* meson pair. We find three bound states in isospin, spin-parity channels (1/2, 0(+)), (1/2, 1(+)), and (1/2, 2(+)). The state with J = 2 can be a good candidate for the B-2*(5747). We also study the rho B system, and a bound state with mass 5728 MeV and width around 20 MeV is obtained, which can be identified with the B-1(5721) resonance. In the case of I = 3/2, one obtains repulsion and, thus, no exotic (molecular) mesons in this sector are generated in the approach.

Title Study of hard double-parton scattering in four-jet events in pp collisions root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 11 Issue 11 Pages 110 - 52pp
Keywords Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments)
Abstract (up) Inclusive four-jet events produced in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of mass energy of root s = 7 TeV are analysed for the presence of hard double-parton scattering using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 37.3 pb(-1), collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The contribution of hard double-parton scattering to the production of four -jet events is extracted using an artificial neural network, assuming that hard double-parton scattering can be approximated by an uncorrelated overlaying of dijet events. For events containing at least four jets with transverse momentum PT >= 20 GeV and pseudorapidity vertical bar eta vertical bar <= 4.4, and at least one having pT >= 42.5 GeV, the contribution of hard double-parton scattering is estimated to be fDps = 0.092(-0.011)(+0.0005) (stat.) (+0.03337)(-0.011) (syst.). After combining this measurement with those of the inclusive dijet and four -jet cross -sections in the appropriate phase space regions, the effective cross-section, sigma(eff,) was determined to be sigma(eff) = 14.9(-1.0)(+1.2) (stat.) (+5.1)(-3.8) (syst.) mb. This result is consistent within the quoted uncertainties with previous measurements of sigma(eff), performed at centre-of-mass energies between 63 GeV and 8 TeV using various final states, and it corresponds to 21(-6%)(+7) of the total inelastic cross-section measured at root s = 7 TeV. The distributions of the observables sensitive to the contribution of hard double-parton scattering, corrected for detector effects, are also provided.

Title Remarks on the P-c structures and triangle singularities Type Journal Article

Volume 52 Issue 10 Pages 318 - 6pp

Abstract (up) It was proposed that the narrow P-c(4450) structure observed by the LHCb Collaboration in the reaction Lambda(b) -> J/psi pK might be due to a triangle singularity around the chi(c1)-proton threshold at 4.45 GeV. We discuss the occurrence of a similar triangle singularity in the J/psi p invariant mass distribution for the decay Lambda(b) -> J/psi p pi, which could explain the bump around 4.45 GeV in the data. More precise measurements of this process would provide valuable information towards an understanding of the P-c structures.

Title A measurement of material in the ATLAS tracker using secondary hadronic interactions in 7 TeV p p collisions Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of Instrumentation Abbreviated Journal J. Instrum.
Volume 11 Issue Pages P11020 - 41pp
Keywords Detector modelling and simulations I (interaction of radiation with matter, interaction; of photons with matter, interaction of hadrons with matter, etc); Performance of High Energy Physics Detectors
Abstract (up) Knowledge of the material in the ATLAS inner tracking detector is crucial in under-standing the reconstruction of charged-particle tracks, the performance of algorithms that identify jets containing b-hadrons and is also essential to reduce background in searches for exotic particles that can decay within the inner detector volume. Interactions of primary hadrons produced in pp collisions with the material in the inner detector are used to map the location and amount of this material. The hadronic interactions of primary particles may result in secondary vertices, which in this analysis are reconstructed by an inclusive vertex-finding algorithm. Data were collected using minimum-bias triggers by the ATLAS detector operating at the LHC during 2010 at centre-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19 nb(-1). Kinematic properties of these secondary vertices are used to study the validity of the modelling of hadronic interactions in simulation. Secondary-vertex yields are compared between data and simulation over a volume of about 0.7m(3) around the interaction point, and agreement is found within overall uncertainties.
