  Title Medium-Induced Modification of Z-Tagged Charged Particle Yields in Pb plus Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS Detector Type Journal Article

  Volume 126 Issue 7 Pages 072301 - 20pp
  Keywords
  Abstract (down) The yield of charged particles opposite to a Z boson with large transverse momentum (p(T)) is measured in 260 pb(-1) of pp and 1.7 nb(-1) of Pb + Pb collision data at 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The Z boson tag is used to select hard-scattered partons with specific kinematics, and to observe how their showers are modified as they propagate through the quarkgluon plasma created in Pb + Pb collisions. Compared with pp collisions, charged-particle yields in Pb + Pb collisions show significant modifications as a function of charged-particle p(T) in a way that depends on event centrality and Z boson p(T). The data are compared with a variety of theoretical calculations and provide new information about the medium-induced energy loss of partons in a p(T) regime difficult to measure through other channels.

  Abstract (down) The very high statistics, low backgrounds and clean back-to-back kinematics of a TeraZ facility would provide an optimal laboratory for precision measurements of the tau properties. A few important topics in tau physics where very relevant contributions could be made are highlighted.

  Title Modified majoron model for cosmological anomalies Type Journal Article

  Abstract (down) The vacuum expectation value v(s) of a Higgs triplet field Delta carrying two units of lepton number L induces neutrino masses alpha v(s). The neutral component of Delta gives rise to two Higgs particles, a pseudoscalar A and a scalar S. The most general renormalizable Higgs potential V for Delta and the Standard-Model Higgs doublet Phi does not permit the possibility that the mass of either A or S is small, of order v(s), while the other mass is heavy enough to forbid the decay Z -> AS to comply with LEP 1 data. We present a model with additional dimension-6 terms in V, in which this feature is absent and either A or S can be chosen light. Subsequently we propose the model as a remedy to cosmological anomalies, namely the tension between observed and predicted tensor-to-scalar mode ratios in the cosmic microwave background and the different values of the Hubble constant measured at different cosmological scales. Furthermore, if Delta dominantly couples to the third-generation doublet L-tau = (v(tau), tau), the deficit of v(tau) events at IceCube can be explained. The singly and doubly charged triplet Higgs bosons are lighter than 280 GeV and 400 GeV, respectively, and could be found at the LHC.

  Title Measurement of the relative B-c(+/-)/B-+/- production cross section with the ATLAS detector at root s=8 TeV Type Journal Article
  Year 2021 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 104 Issue 1 Pages 012010 - 26pp
  Keywords
  Abstract (down) The total cross section and differential cross sections for the production of B-c(+/-) mesons, times their branching fraction to J/psi pi(+/-), are measured relative to those for the production of B-+/- mesons, times their branching fraction to J/psi K-+/-. The data used for this study correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) of pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV. The measurement is performed differentially in bins of transverse momentum p(T) for 13 GeV < p(T)(B-c(+/-)) < 22 GeV and p(T)(B-c(+/-)) > 22 GeV and in bins of rapidity y for vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.75 and 0.75 < vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.3. The relative cross section times branching fraction for the full range p(T) > 13 GeV and vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.3 is (0.34 +/- 0.04(stat) (+0.06)(-0.02 sys) +/- 0.01(lifetime))%. The differential measurements suggest that the production cross section of the B-c(+/-) decreases faster with p(T) than the production cross section of the B-+/-, while no significant dependence on rapidity is observed.

  Title Observation of CP violation in two-body B-(s)(0)-meson decays to charged pions and kaons Type Journal Article
  Year 2021 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.

  Keywords B physics; CP violation; Flavor physics; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Oscillation
  Abstract (down) The time-dependent CP asymmetries of B-0 -> pi(+)pi(-) and B-s(0) -> K+K- decays are measured using a data sample of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The results are C-pi pi = 0.311 +/- 0.045 +/- 0.015; S-pi pi = 0.706 +/- 0.042 +/- 0.013; C-KK = 0.164 +/- 0.034 +/- 0.014; S-KK = 0.123 +/- 0.034 +/- 0.015; A(KK)(Delta Gamma) = -0.83 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.09; where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The same data sample is used to measure the time-integrated CP asymmetries of B-0 -> K + pi(-) and B-s(0) -> K-pi(+) decays and the results are AB(CP)(B0) = -0.0824 +/- 0.0033 +/- 0.0033; A(CP)(Bs0) = 0.236 +/- 0.013 +/- 0.011. All results are consistent with earlier measurements. A combination of LHCb measurements provides the first observation of time-dependent CP violation in B-s(0) decays.
