  Title Search for the radiative Xi(-)(b) -> Xi(-)gamma decay Type Journal Article
  Year 2022 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 01 Issue 1 Pages 069 - 20pp
  Keywords B physics; Flavor physics; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay
  Abstract The first search for the rare radiative decay Xi(-)(b) -> Xi(-)gamma is performed using data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1). The Xi(-)(b) -> Xi(-)-J/ psi channel is used as normalization. No Xi(-)(b) -> Xi(-)gamma signal is found and an upper limit of B(Xi(-)(b) -> Xi(-)gamma) < 1.3 x 10(-4) at 95% confidence level is obtained.

  Abstract The next-generation neutrino experiment JUNO will determine the solar oscillation parameters- sin(2) theta(12) and Delta m(21)(2)-with great accuracy, in addition to measuring sin(2)theta(13), Delta m(31)(2), and the mass ordering. In parallel, the continued study of solar neutrinos at Hyper-Kamiokande will provide complementary measurements in the solar sector. In this paper, we address the expected sensitivity to nonuniversal and flavor-changing nonstandard interactions (NSI) with d-type quarks from the combination of these two future neutrino experiments. We also show the robustness of their measurements of the solar parameters sin(2)theta(12) and Delta m(2)(1)(2) in the presence of NSI. We study the impact of the exact experimental configuration of the Hyper-Kamiokande detector, and conclude it is of little relevance in this scenario. Finally, we find that the LMA-D solution is expected to be present if no additional input from nonoscillation experiments is considered.

  Keywords Phenomenology of Field Theories in Higher Dimensions
  Abstract Recent measurements at the Large Hadron Collider allow for a robust and precise characterisation of the electro-weak interactions of the top quark. We present the results of a global analysis at next-to-leading order precision including LHC, LEP/SLD and Tevatron data in the framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. We include a careful analysis of the impact of correlations among measurements, as well as of the uncertainties in the Effective Field Theory setup itself. We find remarkably robust global fit results, with central values in good agreement with the Standard Model prediction, and 95% probability bounds on Wilson coefficients that range from +/- 0.35 to +/- 8 TeV-2. This result represents a considerable improvement over previous studies, thanks to the addition of differential cross-section measurements in associated production processes of top quarks and neutral gauge bosons.

  Abstract We extend the theoretical framework used to describe the T-cc state as a molecular state of D* D and make predictions for the D* D* and D-s(*) D) systems, finding that they lead to bound states only in the J(P) = 1+ channel. Using input needed to describe the T-cc state, basically one parameter to regularize the loops of the Bethe-Salpeter equation, we find bound states with bindings of the order of MeVand similar widths for the D*D* system, while the D*s D-* system develops a strong cusp around the threshold.

  Title Observation of electroweak production of two jets in association with an isolated photon and missing transverse momentum, and search for a Higgs boson decaying into invisible particles at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article

  Volume 82 Issue 2 Pages 105 - 41pp

  Abstract This paper presents a measurement of the electroweak production of two jets in association with a Z gamma pair, with the Z boson decaying into two neutrinos. It also presents a search for invisible or partially invisible decays of a Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV produced through vectorboson fusion with a photon in the final state. These results use data from LHC proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector and corresponding to an integated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). The event signature, shared by all benchmark processes considered for the measurements and searches, is characterized by a significant amount of unbalanced transverse momentum and a photon in the final state, in addition to a pair of forward jets. Electroweak Z gamma production in association with two jets is observed in this final state with a significance of 5.2 (5.1 expected) standard deviations. The measured fiducial cross-section for this process is 1.31 +/- 0.29 fb. An observed (expected) upper limit of 0.37 (0.34(-0.10)(+0.15)) at 95% confidence level is set on the branching ratio of a 125 GeV Higgs boson to invisible particles, assuming the Standard Model production cross-section. The signature is also interpreted in the context of decays of a Higgs boson into a photon and a dark photon. An observed (expected) 95% CL upper limit on the branching ratio for this decay is set at 0.018 (0.017(-0.005)(+0.007)), assuming the Standard Model production cross-section for a 125 GeV Higgs boson.

  Title Leptoquark manoeuvres in the dark: a simultaneous solution of the dark matter problem and the R-D(*) anomalies Type Journal Article

  Abstract The measured branching fractions of B-mesons into leptonic final states derived by the LHCb, Belle and BaBar collaborations hint towards the breakdown of lepton flavour universality. In this work we take at face value the so-called R-D(()*()) observables that are defined as the ratios of neutral B-meson charged-current decays into a D-(*())-meson, a charged lepton and a neutrino final state in the tau and light lepton channels. A well-studied and simple solution to this charged current anomaly is to introduce a scalar leptoquark S-1 that couples to the second and third generation of fermions. We investigate how S-1 can also serve as a mediator between the Standard Model and a dark sector. We study this scenario in detail and estimate the constraints arising from collider searches for leptoquarks, collider searches for missing energy signals, direct detection experiments and the dark matter relic abundance. We stress that the production of a pair of leptoquarks that decays into different final states (i.e. the commonly called “mixed” channels) provides critical information for identifying the underlying dynamics, and we exemplify this by studying the t tau b nu and the resonant S-1 plus missing energy channels. We find that direct detection data provides non-negligible constraints on the leptoquark coupling to the dark sector, which in turn affects the relic abundance. We also show that the correct relic abundance can not only arise via standard freeze-out, but also through conversion-driven freeze-out. We illustrate the rich phenomenology of the model with a few selected benchmark points, providing a broad stroke of the interesting connection between lepton flavour universality violation and dark matter.

  Abstract We reconsider the discovery limit of multi-ton direct detection dark matter experiments in the light of recent measurements of the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering process. Assuming the cross section to be a parameter entirely determined by data, rather than using its Standard Model prediction, we use the COHERENT CsI and LAr data sets to determine WIMP discovery limits. Being based on a data-driven approach, the results are thus free from theoretical assumptions and fall within the WIMP mass regions where XENONnT and DARWIN have best expected sensitivities. We further determine the impact of subleading nuclear form factor and weak mixing angle uncertainties effects on WIMP discovery limits. We point out that these effects, albeit small, should be taken into account. Moreover, to quantify the impact of new physics effects in the neutrino background, we revisit WIMP discovery limits assuming light vector and scalar mediators as well as neutrino magnetic moments/transitions. We stress that the presence of new interactions in the neutrino sector, in general, tend to worsen the WIMP discovery limit.

  Abstract An improved measurement of the decay B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-) and searches for the decays B-0 -> mu(+)mu(-) and B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-)gamma are performed at the LHCb experiment using data collected in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1, 2 and 6 fb(-1), respectively. The B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-) branching fraction and effective lifetime are measured to be B(B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-)) = (3.09(-0.43-0.11)(+0.46+0.15)) x 10(-9) and tau(B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-)) = (2.07 +/- 0.29 +/- 0.03) ps, respectively, where the uncertain-ties include both statistical and systematic contributions. No significant signal for B-0 -> mu(+)mu(-) and B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-) gamma decays is found and the upper limits B(B-0 -> mu(+)mu(-)) < 2.6 x 10(-10) and B(B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-)gamma) 2.0 x 10(-9) at 95% confidence level are determined, where the latter is limited to the range m(mu mu) > 4.9 GeV/c(2). Additionally, the ratio between the B-0 -> mu(+)mu(-) and B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-) branching fractions is measured to be R mu+mu- < 0.095 at 95% confidence level. The results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions.

  Abstract A new measurement of gamma decay from the states above the neutron threshold in Pb-208 has been performed at Cyclotron Centre Bronowice in Krakow, Poland. The main goal of the experiment was to observe the gamma decay to the ground state from the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance (ISGQR). To this day, the only published observation of this phenomenon dates back to the late 1980s, where gamma decay to the ground state branching ratio was reported. At variance with the existing measurement using inelastic scattering of O-17, here proton inelastic scattering is employed. In particular, data were obtained for Pb-208(p, p'gamma) at 85 MeV beam energy, where gamma rays were measured for proton scattering angles 8.9 degrees, 10.7 degrees, 12.5 degrees, and 14.3 degrees. By applying a similar analysis method as in the previous experiment, the branching ratio of ISGQR gamma decay to the ground state was extracted from the data.
