Title High energy neutrinos from novae in symbiotic binaries: The case of V407 Cygni Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal (up) Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 82 Issue 12 Pages 123012 - 5pp
  Keywords
Abstract Detection of high-energy (>= 100 MeV) gamma rays by the Fermi Large Area Telescope from a nova in the symbiotic binary system V407 Cygni has opened the possibility of high-energy neutrino detection from this type of source. A thermonuclear explosion on the white dwarf surface sets off a nova shell in motion that expands and slows down in a dense surrounding medium provided by the red giant companion. Particles are accelerated in the shocks of the shell and interact with the surrounding medium to produce observed gamma rays. We show that proton-proton interaction, which is most likely responsible for producing gamma rays via neutral pion decay, produces >= 0:1 GeV neutrinos that can be detected by the current and future experiments at >= 10 GeV.

Title Harrison-Zel'dovich primordial spectrum is consistent with observations Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal (up) Phys. Rev. D

Abstract Inflation predicts primordial scalar perturbations with a nearly scale-invariant spectrum and a spectral index approximately unity [the Harrison-Zel'dovich (HZ) spectrum]. The first important step for inflationary cosmology is to check the consistency of the HZ primordial spectrum with current observations. Recent analyses have claimed that a HZ primordial spectrum is excluded at more than 99% c. l. Here we show that the HZ spectrum is only marginally disfavored if one considers a more general reionization scenario. Data from the Planck mission will settle the issue.

Title Future CMB cosmological constraints in a dark coupled universe Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal (up) Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 81 Issue 10 Pages 103534 - 7pp
  Keywords
Abstract Cosmic microwave background satellite missions as the ongoing Planck experiment are expected to provide the strongest constraints on a wide set of cosmological parameters. Those constraints, however, could be weakened when the assumption of a cosmological constant as the dark energy component is removed. Here we show that it will indeed be the case when there exists a coupling among the dark energy and the dark matter fluids. In particular, the expected errors on key parameters as the cold dark matter density and the angular diameter distance at decoupling are significantly larger when a dark coupling is introduced. We show that it will be the case also for future satellite missions as EPIC, unless CMB lensing extraction is performed.

Title Observation of the chi(c2)(2P) meson in the reaction gamma gamma -> D(D)over-bar at BABAR Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal (up) Phys. Rev. D
  Volume 81 Issue 9 Pages 092003 - 16pp
  Keywords
Abstract A search for the Z(3930) resonance in gamma gamma production of the D (D) over bar system has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 384 fb(-1) recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. The D (D) over bar invariant mass distribution shows clear evidence of the Z(3930) state with a significance of 5.8 sigma. We determine mass and width values of (3926.7 +/- 2.7 +/- 1.1) MeV/c(2) and (21.3 +/- 6.8 +/- 3.6) MeV, respectively. A decay angular analysis provides evidence that the Z(3930) is a tensor state with positive parity and C parity (J(PC) = 2(++)); therefore we identify the Z(3930) state as the chi(c2)(2P) meson. The value of the partial width Gamma(gamma gamma) x B(Z(3930) -> D (D) over bar) is found to be (0.24 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.04) keV.
