Abstract: A search is performed for D-sJ(()*()+) mesons in the reactions pp -> D*(+KSX)-X-0 and pp -> D*(K+X)-K-0 using data collected at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV with the LHCb detector. For the D*K-+(S)0 final state, the decays D*(+) -> D-0 pi(+) with D-0 -> K-pi(+) and D-0 -> K-pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) are used. For D*K-0(+), the decay D*(0) -> D-0 pi(0) with D-0 -> K-pi(+) is used. A prominent D-s1(2536)(+) signal is observed in both D*K-+(S)0 and D*K-0(+) final states. The resonances D*(s1)(2700)(+) and D*(s3)(2860)(+) are also observed, yielding information on their properties, including spin-parity assignments. The decay D*(s2)(2573)(+) -> D*(+) K-S(0) is observed for the first time, at a significance of 6.9 sigma, and its branching fraction relative to the D*(s2)(2573)(+) -> (D+KS0) decay mode is measured.

Abstract: Global fit studies performed in the pMSSM and the photon excess signal originating from the Galactic Center seem to suggest compressed electroweak supersymmetric spectra with a similar to 100 GeV bino-like dark matter particle. We find that these scenarios are not probed by traditional electroweak supersymmetry searches at the LHC. We propose to extend the ATLAS and CMS electroweak supersymmetry searches with an improved strategy for bino-like dark matter, focusing on chargino plus next-to-lightest neutralino production, with a subsequent decay into a tri-lepton final state. We explore the sensitivity for pMSSM scenarios with Delta m = m(NLSP) – m(LSF) similar to(5 – 50) GeV in the root s = 14 TeV run of the LHC. Counterintuitively, we find that the requirement of low missing transverse energy increases the sensitivity compared to the current ATLAS and CMS searches. With 300 fb(-1) of data we expect the LHC experiments to be able to discover these supersymmetric spectra with mass gaps down to Am 9 GeV for DM masses between 40 and 140 GeV. We stress the importance of a dedicated search strategy that targets precisely these favored pMSSM spectra.

Abstract: The abundance of infrared singularities in gauge theories due to unresolved emission of massless particles (soft and collinear) represents the main difficulty in perturbative calculations. They are typically regularized in dimensional regularization, and their subtraction is usually achieved independently for virtual and real corrections. In this paper, we introduce a new method based on the loop-tree duality (LTD) theorem to accomplish the summation over degenerate infrared states directly at the integrand level such that the cancellation of the infrared divergences is achieved simultaneously, and apply it to reference examples as a proof of concept. Ultraviolet divergences, which are the consequence of the point-like nature of the theory, are also reinterpreted physically in this framework. The proposed method opens the intriguing possibility of carrying out purely four-dimensional implementations of higher-order perturbative calculations at next-to-leading order (NLO) and beyond free of soft and final-state collinear subtractions.

Abstract: A search for vector-like quarks and excited quarks in events containing a top quark and a W boson in the final state is reported here. The search is based on 20.3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data taken at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Events with one or two leptons, and one, two or three jets are selected with the additional requirement that at least one jet contains a b-quark. Single-lepton events are also required to contain at least one large-radius jet from the hadronic decay of a high-PT W boson or a top quark. No significant excess over the expected background is observed and upper limits on the cross-section times branching ratio for different vector-like quark and excited-quark model masses are derived. For the excited-quark production and decay to Wt with unit couplings, quarks with masses below 1500 GeV are excluded and coupling-dependent limits are set.

Abstract: A search is presented for a new, light boson with a mass of about 1 GeV and decaying promptly to jets of collimated electrons and/or muons (lepton-jets). The analysis is performed with 20.3 fb(-1) of data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. Events are required to contain at least two lepton-jets. This study finds no statistically significant deviation from predictions of the Standard Model and places 95% confidence-level upper limits on the contribution of new phenomena beyond the SM, incuding SUSY-portal and Higgs-portal models, on the number of events with lepton-jets.

Abstract: A search is performed for the charmless three-body decays of the Lambda(0)(b) and Xi(0)(b) baryons to the final states Lambda h(+)h'(-), where h(') = pi or K. The analysis is based on a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb-1 of pp collisions, collected by the LHCb experiment. The Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda K+pi(-) and Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda K+K- decays are observed for the first time and their branching fractions and CP asymmetry parameters are measured. Evidence is seen for the Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda pi(+)pi(-) decay and limits are set on the branching fractions of Xi(0)(b) baryon decays to the Lambda h(+)h(-) final states.

Abstract: We perform a search for near-threshold I (b) (0) resonances decaying to I (b) (-) pi (+) in a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. We observe one resonant state, with the following properties: m(Xi b*0) – m (Xi b-) – m (pi+) = 15.727 +/- 0.068 (stat) +/- 0.023 (syst) MeV/c2, Gamma(Xi b*0) = 0.90 +/- 0.16 (stat) +/- 0.08 (syst) MeV. This confirms the previous observation by the CMS collaboration. The state is consistent with the J (P) = 3/2(+)aEuro integral I (b) (au 0) resonance expected in the quark model. This is the most precise determination of the mass and the first measurement of the natural width of this state. We have also measured the ratio sigma(pp -> Xi b*0 X)B(Xi b*0 -> Xi b-pi+)/sigma(pp -> Xi b- X) = 0.28 +/- 0.03 (stat.) +/- 0.01 (syst).

Abstract: We discuss the systematic decomposition of all dimension-7 (d = 7) lepton number violating operators. These d = 7 operators produce momentum enhanced contributions to the long-range part of the 0 nu beta beta decay amplitude and thus are severely constrained by existing half-live limits. In our list of possible models one can find contributions to the long-range amplitude discussed previously in the literature, such as the left-right symmetric model or scalar leptoquarks, as well as some new models not considered before. The d = 7 operators generate Majorana neutrino mass terms either at tree-level, 1-loop or 2-loop level. We systematically compare constraints derived from the mass mechanism to those derived from the long-range 0 nu beta beta decay amplitude and classify our list of models accordingly. We also study one particular example decomposition, which produces neutrino masses at 2-loop level, can fit oscillation data and yields a large contribution to the long-range 0 nu beta beta decay amplitude, in some detail.

Abstract: The decays Lambda(0)(b) -> psi(2S)pK(-) and Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-)pK(-) are observed in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected in proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energies by the LHCb detector. The psi(2S) mesons are reconstructed through the decay modes psi(2S) -> mu(+)mu(-) and psi(2S) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-) The branching fractions relative to that of Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pk(-) are measured to be [GRAPHICS] where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic and the third is related to the knowledge of J/psi and psi(2S) branching fractions. The mass of the Ai baryon is measured to be M(Lambda(0)(b)) = 5619.65 +/- 0.17 0.17 MeV/c(2), where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic.

Abstract: The production of W and Z bosons in association with jets is studied in the forward region of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.98 +/- 0.02 fb(-1). The W boson is identified using its decay to a muon and a neutrino, while the Z boson is identified through its decay to a muon pair. Total cross-sections are measured and combined into charge ratios, asymmetries, and ratios of W+jet and Z+jet production cross-sections. Differential measurements are also performed as a function of both boson and jet kinematic variables. All results are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.
