Abstract The production of B+, B-0 and Lambda(0)(b), hadrons is studied in proton-lead collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of root(NN)-N-s T = 8.16 TeV recorded with the LHCb detector at the LHC. The measurement uses a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12.2 +/- 0.3 nb(-1) for the case where the proton beam is projected into the LHCb detector (corresponding to measuring hadron production at positive rapidity) and 18.6 +/- 0.5 nb(-1) for the lead beam projected into the LHCb detector (corresponding to measuring hadron production at negative rapidity). Double-differential cross sections are measured and used to determine forward-backward ratios and nuclear modification factors, which directly probe nuclear effects in the production of beauty hadrons. The double-differential cross sections are measured as a function of the beauty-hadron transverse momentum and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame. Forward-to-backward cross section ratios and nuclear modification factors indicate a significant nuclear suppression at positive rapidity. The ratio of Lambda(0)(b), over B-0 production cross sections is reported and is consistent with the corresponding measurement in pp collisions.

Title Search for CP violation in Xi(-)(b) -> pK(-)K(-) decays Type Journal Article

Abstract A search for CP violation in charmless three-body Xi(-)(b) -> pK(-)K(-) decays is performed using pp collision data recorded with the LHCb detector, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1 fb(-1) at a center-of-mass energy root S = 7 TeV, 2 fb(-1) at root S = 8 TeV and 2 fb(-1) at = 13 TeV. A good description of the phase-space distribution is obtained with an amplitude model containing contributions from Sigma(1385), Lambda(1405), Lambda(1520), Lambda(1670), Sigma(1775) and Sigma(1915) resonances. The model allows for CP violation effects, which are found to be consistent with zero. The branching fractions of Xi(-)(b) -> Sigma(1385)K-, Xi(-)(b) -> Lambda(1405)K-, Xi(-)(b) -> Lambda(1520)K-, Xi(-)(b) -> Lambda(1670)K-, Xi(-)(b) -> Sigma(1775)K- and Xi(-)(b) -> Sigma(1915)K- decays arc also reported. In addition, an upper limit is placed on the product of ratios of Omega(-)(b) and Xi(-)(b) fragmentation fractions and the Omega(-)(b) -> pK(-)K(-) and Xi(-)(b) -> pK(-)K(-) branching fractions.

Title Determination of short- and long-distance contributions in B0 → K*0 μ+ μ- decays Type Journal Article

Abstract An amplitude analysis of the B-0 -> K-*0 mu(+)mu(-) decay is presented. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb experiment from proton-proton collisions at root s = 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1). For the first time, Wilson coefficients and nonlocal hadronic contributions are accessed directly from the unbinned data, where the latter are parametrized as a function of q(2) with a polynomial expansion. Wilson coefficients and nonlocal hadronic parameters are determined under two alternative hypotheses: the first relies on experimental information alone, while the second one includes information from theoretical predictions for the nonlocal contributions. Both models obtain similar results for the parameters of interest. The overall level of compatibility with the Standard Model is evaluated to be between 1.8 and 1.9 standard deviations when looking at the C-9 Wilson coefficient alone, and between 1.3 and 1.4 standard deviations when considering the full set of C-9; C(1)0; C-9(') and C-10(') Wilson coefficients. The ranges reflect the theoretical assumptions made in the analysis.

Abstract The mass difference between the Omega -b and Xi -b baryons is measured using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb-1, and is found to be mo Omega -bthorn – mo Xi -bthorn 1/4 248.54? 0.51ostatthorn ? 0.38osystthorn MeV=c2. The mass of the Omega -b baryon is measured to be mo Omega -bthorn 1/4 6045.9 ? 0.5ostatthorn ? 0.6osystthorn MeV=c2. This is the most precise determination of the Omega -b mass to date. In addition, the production rate of Omega -b baryons relative to that of Xi -b baryons is measured for the first time in pp collisions, using an LHCb dataset collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb-1. Reconstructing beauty baryons in the kinematic region 2 < <eta> < 6 and pT < 20 GeV=c with their decays to a J=psi meson and a hyperon, the ratio f Omega- b f Xi- b tation fractions of b quarks into Omega -b and Xi -b baryons, respectively, and B represents the branching fractions of their respective decays. Abstract A search for the nonresonant Lambda(+)(c) -> p mu(+) mu(-) decay is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1). No evidence for the decay is found in the dimuon invariant-mass regions where the expected contributions of resonances is subdominant. The upper limit on the branching fraction of the Lambda(+)(c) -> p mu(+) mu(-) decay is determined to be 2.9(3.2) x 10(-8) at 90%(95%) confidence level. The branching fractions in the dimuon invariant-mass regions dominated by the eta, rho and omega resonances are also determined.

Abstract The first measurement of the production rate of Xi(-)(b) baryons in pp collisions relative to that of Lambda(0 )(b)baryons is reported, using data samples collected by the LHCb experiment, and corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1, 2 and 1.6 fb(-1) at root s = 7, 8 and 13 TeV, respectively. In the kinematic region 2 < eta < 6 and p(T) < 20 GeV/c, we measure f(Xi b-)/f(Lambda b0) B(Xi(-)(b)-> J/psi Xi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b)-> J/psi Lambda)= (10.8 +/- 0.9 +/- 0.8) x 10(-2) [root s = 7,8 TeV], f(Xi b-)/f(Lambda b0) B(Xi(-)(b)-> J/psi Xi(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b)-> J/psi Lambda) =(13.1 +/- 1.1 +/- 1.0) x 10(-2) [root s = 13 TeV], where and f(Xi b-) and f(Lambda)(b0) the fragmentation fractions of b quarks into Xi(-)(b) and Lambda(0)(b) baryons, respectively; B represents branching fractions; and the uncertainties are due to statistical and experimental systematic sources. The values of f(Xi b-)/f(Lambda b0) are obtained by invoking SU(3) symmetry in the Xi(-)(b)-> J/psi Xi(-) and Lambda(0)(b)-> J/psi Lambda decays. Production asymmetries between Xi(-)(b) and (Xi) over bar (+)(b) baryons are also reported. The mass of the Xi(-)(b) baryon is also measured relative to that of the Lambda(0)(b) baryon, from which it is found that m(Xi(-)(b)) = 5796.70 +/- 0.39 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.17 MeV/c(2), where the last uncertainty is due to the precision on the known Lambda(0)(b) mass. This result represents the most precise determination of the Xi(-)(b) mass.

Abstract A measurement of charm mixing and CP-violating parameters is reported, using B over bar -> D0(-> K0S pi+pi-)x mu- nu over bar μX decays reconstructed in proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment during the years 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1. The measured mixing and CP-violating parameters are xCP = [4.29 1 1.48(stat) 1 0.26(syst)] x 10-3, yCP = [12.61 1 3.12(stat) 1 0.83(syst)] x 10-3, Ax = [-0.77 1 0.93(stat) 1 0.28(syst)] x 10-3, Ay = [3.01 1 1.92(stat) 1 0.26(syst)] x 10-3. The results are complementary to and consistent with previous measurements. A combination with the recent LHCb analysis of D*+ -> D0(-> K0S pi+ pi-)pi+ decays is reported.

Abstract The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using B+ -> K(+)l(+)l(-) and B-0 -> K*(0)l(+) l(-) decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton invariant-mass squared, q(2). The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q(2) interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. Title Improved Measurement of CP Violation Parameters in B0s → J/ψ K+ K- Decays in the Vicinity of the φ(1020) Resonance Type Journal Article

Abstract The decay-time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0s -> J=psi(-> mu+mu-)K+K- decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb-1, collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Using a sample of approximately 349 000 B0s signal decays with an invariant K+K- mass in the vicinity of the phi(1020) resonance, the CP-violating phase phi s is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B0s-B over bar 0s system, Delta Gamma s, and the difference of the average B0s and B0 meson decay widths, Gamma s – Gamma d. The values obtained are phi s = -0.039 +/- 0.022 +/- 0.006 rad, Delta Gamma s = 0.0845 +/- 0.0044 +/- 0.0024 ps-1, and -0.0015 +/- 0.0014 ps-1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with the previous LHCb analyses of this decay. These results are combined with previous independent LHCb measurements. The phase phi s is also measured independently for each polarization state of the K+K- system and shows no evidence for polarization dependence.

Title Measurement of the photon polarization in Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda gamma decays Type Journal Article

Abstract The photon polarization in b -> s gamma transitions is measured for the first time in radiative b -baryon decays exploiting the unique spin structure of Lambda(0)(b)-> Lambda(gamma) decays. A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is used. The photon polarization is measured to be alpha(gamma) = 0.82(-0.26-0.)(13)(+)(0.17+0.04), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and previous measurements in b-meson decays. Charge-parity breaking effects are studied for the first time in this observable and found to be consistent with CP symmetry.
